At some stage, when an account can be trusted enough, it should have the ability to post images.
Yes.
I don't really care for stuff like that. But sure.

No, I don't really care at all.

There are many powers in the world, for good or for evil. Some are greater than I am. Against some I have not yet been measured. But my time is coming.

Swag punks, fuck off!

I'm "okay" with our current display, but I also want that notification feature for when I get quoted. I don't know, maybe just a different background or something would be nice.

To put things in perspective, bungie.net isn't even running in widescreen yet.
Huh?

Posted by: supertripon
I disagree. It breaks up immersion in the website (which, admittedly, only old-fashioned people like me care about). Even disregarding that, as most of you will, I disagree with giving any additional privileges to any title below "forum ninja", for reasons that have been beaten to death on these forums.
The other thing that's been beaten to death is the lack of incentive to use a single account. Privileges, IMO, are a good solution to that problem (like not being able to create a topic for 24 hours after joining).

I guess, like, the margins to the left and right? But aren't those meant to be there?

But even then, posting images does bring you out of the immersion of the site and the conversation. It's okay that employees can do it because it means that the frequency with which it's done is so low that it makes for a nice, tongue-in-cheek, moment that you see, move on from, and then move back into the rest of the site that has a totally different theme and feeling.

It's the difference between getting a piece of candy every time you get an A on a test in school, and getting a piece of candy every time you wake up and every time you go to bed. It's the "too much of a good thing" dilemma.

I'm talking about the contrast ratio of the screen. Bungie.net is in 960 pixels wide rather than a full 100% widescreen template (like most other websites).

We're running on a fixed width. Which is optimal if you have no intent of using the extra space on either sides of the main column. However, most websites use the full 100% width, so the screen actually can change depending on how wide each user's browser is. It uses the full screen.

Link for example.

That I would be fine with. It's one thing to limit new accounts in the interest of hindering alts, but as soon as Heroics get X feature, Legendaries get Y feature and so on, titles aren't just silly hats any more. And one way or another, that holds rather pervasive implications.

The main body of each page is fixed as it should be to accommodate users with smaller-sized monitors (eg. 1024x768), but its parent element(s) are set to stretch to 100% width, which is how we have the ohmygodiseestars background. That is how most sites are designed.

http://www.youtube.com/
http://www.yahoo.com/

http://www.ebay.com/
http://www.linkedin.com/

etc...

If a designer starts sticking things (especially essential UI) in the margins to the left and right of the main body of content, they are making dangerous assumptions about the users' capabilities. If there is not enough room, users can't use the site properly. For instance, if you have Firefox, go to Amazon.com and use the Responsive Design View (Tools > Web Developer). Change the orientation to 1024x768 and watch what and how much of it gets cut off.

Immersion? Come on. This is a site based on a form of entertainment where its members are also here in their spare time for [arguably] entertainment as well. Consider that other sites with forums allow their members to post images.

Besides, I'm sure you could easily ignore an image by "scrolling past" it ;)

Okay, immersion is the wrong word to use. But the site definitely has a very specific feel to it. I don't think of browsing it the same way I think of scrolling through Facebook or going onto YouTube or even going onto other forums (DPedia or Nerdfighters... which I hardly go on anymore). Maybe it's the dark, somber mood that the dark grey color scheme has put over the site but the pictures are just a bit jarring. But, like I said, it's okay that Bungie Employees can do it because there's so few of them, and those few employees post so little, and those post so rarely contain pictures, so it's a nice little change from the norm.

But once they become the norm, they're not longer a change from the norm. Again, "too much of a good thing".

Besides, I'm sure you could easily ignore an image by "scrolling past" it ;)In-jokes, in-jokes, I love me some in-jokes.

Just an additional note: as a Windows 7 user, when I snap two programs to either side of my screen, thus reducing the resolution of my browser lengthwise, this sort of stuff can become very annoying. (browsing Amazon like that in particular is torturous and laborious beyond words)

I don't know why but a few days ago when logging in the first page seemed somehow off, and when I clicked sign in my email was in bold italics, pre-typed. Nothing unusual after that, but maybe a sneak peek of the hawtness.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

We don't mean an entire site change, because this site is by far the easiest to navigate I've ever been on.

We mean just a whole lot of improvements, I think the general layout would remain the same.

Maybe not titles, but you did say At some stage, when an account can be trusted enough, it should have the ability to post images.
...and unless some entirely new system is introduced, that feature would highly likely be linked to titles. That is what Arbiter 739 suggested in the post you were replying to.
Either way, I don't think anyone but employees should be posting images, because of the "immersion" that Crazzy defends a lot better than I do.

I apologize for getting things muddled, though, I have a lot on my mind....

I expect the background to be something similar to a Victoria's Secret commercial, but with less bras. So I'm excited to say the least.

They use it to answer all our complaints about stuff like "Why isn't there a notification system!" Then they can just say "Wait for the New Hawtness" Whether it is in there or not, no one knows.
