I thought we saw that when he got to Cortana in Halo 3.

When he sees the other surviving Spartans, yes.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

No, I do not. The Spartans-II were indoctrinated and conditioned for the sole purpose of being lethal weapons of defence, but they have no place in the world they are fighting to protect. Spartans-IIs would have no social quality of life, they're alienated from the rest of humanity and seen as freaks by some.

A quiet death for John with a family would not be a satisfying end to his character's arc. The scale of his existence goes far beyond any desire for familial dedication, he's not John McClain who has a wife and children he can fight for and protect, he's an instrument of atonement being used by the most advanced AI on a mission to save the galaxy. A quiet, comfortable death would be as insulting as a guns-blazing death would be cliche.

that said, I want John dead by the end of Halo 6.

His mother and father were Halsey and Keyes. I always got the impression their mere presence delighted him in TFOR. Plus, again, every time he talks to cortana and she isn't in trouble. Just talk to him like a fellow human, he softens up immedi--HE'S NOT -blam!- REAL. WHY ARE WE TALKING ABOUT THIS?

  • 08.25.2012 11:15 AM PDT

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

He's happy when he's with his SPARTAN-II teammates, Cortana, Halsey and even Mendez. Knowing that they're safe. Beyond the war that's his main concern. First Strike was an indicator of that.

I see John settling down and entering politics. He could send all of the boys back off to war to get some resources and whatnot and then we could have Halo 7

While I kinda agree that John 'starting a family and living happily ever after' is a no, I don't see him dying at peace, alone (or with Cortana or a single other S2 like Linda or Kelly or fred), as much of an issue.

As somebody said in another topic, everybody expects him to die in glorious battle saving the universe. It's literally what people think of with Spartans. Go unexpected (but not crazy unexpected like getting a wife and kids). :P.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

John would happily retire opening a paintball course and having Cortana monitor it. Everyone versus him. He'd make a happy living.

Seriously though, John would probably be happy if he was turned into an AI via The Composer and was able to live forever with Cortana and have internet buttsecks.

Okay, seriously though, he'd be happy to live among his Spartan II's and Cortana in some random location of the galaxy... Or left on the Preserve the Predators have and survive and hunt alongside his family.

Yes, I know, I can't take this seriously because I can't imagine John being more happy than being with Cortana and his Spartans in the heat of battle.

Welcome to the town of "Diligence." I'm Mayor Due.

Perhaps, sipping a Corona listening to happiness is a warm gun by the Beatles.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

I can't see him finding peace. He is a man whose life knows nothing but conflict; he was taken at a very young age and trained to be the best soldier he could be. I can't see him dying quietly and peacefully; when he dies, he will go out with a bang, so to speak.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Maybe.
Maybe he finishes all the wars, and goes back to his home planet and lives the rest of his life in peace?

No, I hate to say that but no. The Chief was raised to be a Warrior. There's only one way he will ever know peace .....

  • 08.26.2012 1:10 PM PDT

What goes here??

Yes, when he's with his teammates.

  • 08.26.2012 1:30 PM PDT

.-=~4L13N5 H012D3~=-.

I don't think so. Considering that he was raised to never be content and always strive for better. I think the only peace he could have would be when he knew his fight was finished and he had a predecessor he trusted to carry on that same duty he was given. Maybe he'll find that in a spartan 4.

  • 08.26.2012 8:07 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

He's happiest at war.

That word, IIRC, means "Somebody who came before."

You are looking for Successor.

Hmm yes. Successor would be the correct term. My mistake.

  • 08.27.2012 4:35 AM PDT

Probably not he has encountered the death of many including his closest friends.

  • 08.27.2012 2:51 PM PDT

When he is with his team and cortana and when the war ends.

  • 08.27.2012 3:26 PM PDT

See you on the other side of the river.

Don't you all know? Master Chief will die in glorious battle, go to Valhalla and fight forever in eternity!! >:D
