This was always a fun option in...I think it was Ghost Recon that had it. They had an observer mode where you could be in the game as an observer and move the camera around anywhere and watch the battles in the match.
I know for me it was entertaining when I would get tired of playing so I'd watch others play.
Would be a nice added option for Halo 3 multiplayer I think. When someone in the matched up game selects themself as a spectator, it wouldn't count them as a 'player' and would rather open up a spot for someone else. There could be say...a max of 3 spectators per game no matter how many players are involved. Also, if you enter a game with a party of say...4, then no one in your party can become a spectator (this would be a small attempt to prevent spectators from relaying information on enemy locations and such to team mates). So you can't be in a party to select that spectator option.

What y'all think?

Let grunts Sleep!!!

When you die in H2 it shows a guy on your team or your body. When that happens you should be able to look around to observe what you should do when you respawn.

There is already a mini spectator mode, therby rending the need for this thread useless.

There is no spectator mode, thereby rendering the need for your post pointless.

I obviously wasn't clear enough for you. When you die, the screen zooms out. Hence the term "Mini Spectator" mode.

Perhaps the thread creator wasn't clear enough for you. In no way did he mention anything resembling your 'mini spectator' mode.

Edit: There should be a PGR3 type spectator mode.

Just to clarify, he means if you're out of the game you get to watch all the other players fight. I remember needing a feature like this a lot during Halo:ce and Halo 2.

Don't you already get to watch players when you're dead, on say, a game with limited lives?

If your clan has gathered certain players to play a clanmatch, you would maybe like to see how that ended, without being able to communicate or be in the way of other players.

if you have found a pro player and want to see how the hell he can own people so easily you can learn by watching him play.

if you and your friend was modded in matchmaking and your friend takes the modder on one on one. would you not want to watch?

in quake4 you can spectate battles freely, you can fly around as if you were a monitor. i like that feature, id use it alot if i had it in halo.

That's exactly the idea I was talking about! You'd just be like a camera flying around observing the battle, and of course, not be visible to players so that you couldn't get in the way.
The 'mini spectator' mode in Halo 2 right now isn't anything like this. You get to switch the camera to view different players yes, but only get to watch for the duration it takes for you to respawn, AND you can't control the camera freely.
I think this also brings in the idea for being able to record Halo 3 matches to the 360 hard drive. I know not everyone has a video capture card hooked up from their computer to their tv so this would be a nice add on...FOR ALL GAMES, not just Halo 3.
