In H3 what way do you want marines to act? More realistic but with the same old marine spirit? Or do you want it like a marine that knows he will die and earth may lose? Do you want them smarter and more capable on their own? This is what my thread is about.

The marines in the halo games have not changed for the most part since 2001, but I think the marines are lacking something. THey have the right spirit, but seem odd or out of place at times. I think its the way they fight and carry out missions. They cant seem to help much and may get in the way. And they seem to not utilize cover or many other common rules. Also, they die so fast!!

How do you want them to be?

I personally want their spirit to stay, that is what makes them halo marines. But I want them to utilize their environment more like real soldiers. They need to be able to stay alive longer and actually make a few kills on something besides grunts.

One example of amazing marine behavior and skill is Quake 4. The marines can clear a room quickly even with little help, you still have to make sure some kinds of enemies dont attack a marines, but they fight surprisingly well. They take cover. Also they can live for one room and still live after fighting the next room. Though they have a different non-halo spirit, they showcase the kind of military behavior and skill that may be good for ODSTs and marines in halo.

Also, I want their behavior to be tweaked slightly. They should interact and talk twice as much, keep their fun and joking behavior. The fun behavior is not doubled, but add seriousness to the other half of the behavior. So they are just as fun as H2 and H1, but the other half of the doubled interaction is serious. Half fun and half serious.

They need to fight smarter too. Using grenades on heavy targets, fighting from cover to cover, ect. Any of the moves you can think of.

What do you think? What do you want instead of my idea if you dont like it? Throw your thoughts.

Well I want that too. But if you make them 100% serious, they lose their loved spirit.

They need to talk like the Halo 1 Marines, and have the best AI bungie can muster. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T LET THEM BLOW THEM SELVES UP WITH THE ROCKET LAUNCHER!

*takes a deep breath*

I'm ok...

They need to have FEAR-style AI capabilities, but also have the original Halo-style marines with the foul language and smart remarks.

Sure talk like them but have more serious times. If you played Quake 4, you know what kinds of talk and behaviors need to be combined with original behaviors to make a better classic, yet new marine. Keep a balance between Fun and Serious and to the textbook.

I hate Quake 4, the marines just stand there when an area's cleared and they never follow you, it pissed me off, plus you can't shoot them.

Somethings wrong with your PC then, I just finished playing a moment ago. They also only follow if they are supposed to, sometimes they arent. Also, WHY DOES IT MATTER IF YOU CANT BETRAY THEM!!

I have it for 360, and I wish they'd follow no matter what, and it makes it more realistic if you can shoot them, it gives you a choice, a gun just can jam when you aim at them.

Ok, I guess quake 4 360 has the worse marine AI compaired to PC.

Yeah, but I hope they make the 360 FEAR better than it was, cuz that AI is the best I've ever seen in a game.

THis isnt a squad based shooter, its a about one man, one machine, one spartan, saving the world...the marines are really there for a comical effect i would say, they are defintly funny and arent supposed to wipe out tons of of the enemie...

That's three characters, that's half a squad right there. You said it yourself, buddy.

Halo 3 (31st), ODST (14th) and Reach (4th) Mythic Conqueror. (Mythic is Solo, Legendary, All skulls on + scoring on and no deaths/saves).

Staff Writer and speedrun record holder at highspeedhalo.net

Ignorance is the true enemy of all things.

Rocking Bungie.net for over 8 years!

Well, they definately need more tactical awareness i'd say.

Sometimes i catch them running down the middle of the New Mombasa bridge.

Team work is also something that needs working on.

In Halo 2, they do often move as groups and also call out to each other on the position of enemies. But they also do some really silly things. Like, when i get in the side seat of a warthog the marine in the drivers seat would just drive off without waiting for another marine (that is 3 metres away) to get into the turrent position. And sometimes, when they are facing off against a group of enemies down a hallway, some will prance about from side to side shooting down the hall while another marine with a sniper rifle accidentally shoots them in the back.

They sould work as squads and always be aware of where their team mates are, and where they are shooting. They are, after all, space marines over 500 years in the future.

As for their attitude. It should stay about the same IMO. They should know the time to be serious (like when they are getting shot at) and the time to make a few jokes (when they've just killed the hostiles in an area).

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

1. I want them to be serious at times but they should have lots of funny things to say also.

2. They should be better with grenades and rocket Lauchers.

3. They better have there drivers license this time because they were crappy warthog drivers in H2.

These are the only improvements I want to see.

Marines are only good for carrying extra weapons and ammo for you. I don't want Halo to turn into me watching my AI versus the enemy AI. I want it to be me (and possibly 3 friends via co-op online) against the universe.

  • 06.21.2006 9:03 AM PDT

They need to be 100% serious, but maintain the jokey charm, do you know what I mean?

When on earth did i say its a squad based shooter?? Just because most of the time your on your own doesnt mean the marines AI needs to suffer.

Yes, the marines should be serious alot, but keep most of the fun spirit. In quake 4 they had seriousness that kept to their situation. Add that to their fun spirit makes a more realistic yet fun atmosphere.

They need to be able to use tactics. You can actually get with the AI's formation in some games and fight with them like they do. Marines should be aware of other marine's actions and not get sniped in the back.

Ya, thats what i want Corbec.

just keep them how they were in the other 2...

did you know, if you give a marine a bad weapon, he'll curl his lip and say something like:

"Oh yeah, well ur the hero"

give him a good weapon and he'll smile and say something like:

"You know what? you are the best"

I still want the marines to show emotions and say funny stuff
