Subject: Microsoft keeps us in the dark.

One cone to splatter em all!!

I thought of this the other day. Maybe not totally correct but what if the contract that bungie made with microsoft for the halo franchise had some restrictions. For instance what if microsoft made bungie wait with releasing any info about destiny until halo 4 was out for a few weeks or months.

This would be pretty smart so I can see it happen. They wanted to keep the bungie or original halo fans under their belt. It would increase sales and attention towards halo 4.

What are your thoughts on this?

Sounds highly unlikely

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Microsoft has no authority over Bungie

Well, Bungie isn't tied to Microsoft anymore. The release of Halo 4 doesn't impact Bungie at all.

In other words, Bungie runs their own shiznit.

Not entirely true.

  • 08.26.2012 6:23 PM PDT

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure Bungie just had to make 2 more Halo games, then they were free to make whatever games they wanted, but Halo had to stay with Microsoft. I doubt Bungie would agree to a contract where they pretty much had to wait until Halo 4 was released to let people know about their game.

Their baby is now their competition, though.

It actually IS entirely true. Bungie made an agreement with Activision, no Microsoft. Microsoft has no authority to impede or alter Bungie's game or the company anymore.

They have to give Bungie the "O-K" to let them publish a game on their console. They control the console and online service Bungie will be utilizing.

Hence: "Not entirely true"

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

I can see how it "could" be possible, but I think it's very unlikely.

For a studio to agree to hold back any information on their project until another developer ships a specific title would be a REALLY weird condition.

I think that it is far more feasible that Bungie has a moment or an event in mind (not necessarily a show event, maybe a particular milestone in the development) before they start giving teases and hints.

We know how they work, we know they are good at running silent, we just gotta wait for them to know when it's time to surface.

I know that bungie runs their own show now. I would think that microsoft would want to coverthemselves in. So when the process of taking over halo started they wanted to create a vacuum of some sorts for themselves.

I meant maybe at the time the deal wasn't fully closed. So yeah bungie wanted to get out and do their own thing. So microsoft could have put some pressure in them.

Just my thoughts.

P.S. Thanks recon that was my thought as well. Just throwing it out there :).

Bungie dont answer to Microsoft anymore, their contract as a publisher is long gone.
I'm not sure how much control Activision has on the release of game information but if it wasn't Bungie's idea to stay dark, it'll certainly be Activision's.

In have never heard of any corporation like M$ wanted a publisher to without info because of another game. You know why, because it is a stupid thing to do.

Microsoft still gets their money regardless and it only prevents another game from attracting more potential buyers.

Microsoft bought activision right? Not that they can touch bungie through that but still I think it's kinda funny.

No.

I have thought about this before. Maybe they do not want it to seem like they are competing with or taking the spotlight so they are keeping quiet until the hubbub of halo 4 is over with?

Na, theres was talk of Vivendi selling Activision-Blizzard to recover costs in some other media sector they're involved with, film or tv or something.
Microsoft were just one of the only real players that could afford and would be interested in buying so it was speculated they might. I think it will be a while before they actually sell it though.

Forgot where it was said, but it is 100% Bungie's decision for keeping the game in the dark. Activision has no control or say when the game is to be revealed.

Yeah they're supposed to publish it and have no say of in game content. It's only the amount of titles that get published that they had to discuss. At least that is what I could grasp from the contract and what not.

Exactly. I believe a Bungie employee confirmed they have 100% say when the game gets revealed, someone else here may remember who.

Also Bungie has been hinting the game will be revealed exclusively here. If Activision controlled the event, it would not be reveled here but probably at a gaming convention like e3.
