This thread would have appealed to me more if it was written with crayons.

I broke one of the cords for my X11s because I couldn't get past the final American course in Doritos Crash Course.

Although we have no idea whether Destiny will support fileshare, screenshots, maps, films etc (I imagine its likely though), would you like to see public forums dedicated to the different categories of community files?

On Bungie.net we have/had file search and tags, bungie favourites and private groups. I think a public forum would encourage more people to browse, download and discuss files, whether it be maps, gametypes, screenshots or films.

I believe it is the community's input and creations that really add the extra millage to a video game, so I think this would be a good addition to the site when Destiny is released.
The only major problem I can think of is that it means more forums to moderate.

What do you think? Would it be worth it or are the file sharing systems we have now good enough?

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

WOuldnt be a bad thing to add to the current system. DO you know of any other game forums that have file sharing forums? If so are they better or worse? I think bungie has it going on in that department.

Hey Achronos, if you're reading this, I'm genuinely curious: After the deletion of the forums and the move to a better browsing system for files, accounting for population growth on the site did file searching increase?

To everyone, I think the file searching really lessened how much people cared about searching for files. Nobody seemed that into it once the forum was gone.

OK, so the search feature was WAY better. You could find tons of files way easier. Hell, you could even do the exact same thing as the forum- just sort by time created and by file type and poof- you have the forum just as it was. But without the 'official forums,' it seemed like nobody really cared about it.

Eh, I dunno. I'm not sure if I want forums for them back to be honest, though I KNOW I don't want people posting files in the forum for the game itself (always a hassle to wade through, especially considering, and let's be honest here, most of the files posted are really poor quality). I have no opinion on the matter yet, though I'm sure one way or another I'll develop an opinion based on what path is chosen in the end and how it pans out. I just wanted to make an apparent observation is all.

I don't think it would work well with the current forum system. If every item has it's own thread, then it's just going to be a constant stream of new threads, with a "lucky" 10 items sitting permanently on the hot topics because various groups got all their members to save the thread.

For the system to work, you need easy ways to filter the content (Show only new, show only a week old, show only Hot Topics), and display WAY more than 25 results a page. The Search system could be built into the forum as well, and give people the option to control their own tags.

Wouldn't it just be people whoring their stupid screenshots that nobody cares about? It'd be worse than the classifieds.

I think it would be as dead as the classifieds. If it doesn't take too much time from the webteam, I guess we could give it a try and see how well it does. If it sucks nuke it but if not then you know. I'd much rather let the webteam focus on other areas though (What those areas are I have no idea).

Yeah I think traffic and quality files could be an issue. Keeping the good stuff at the top but still allowing new files to be seen would be the biggest difficulty.
Maybe creating some sort of 'vault', kind of like a second tab forum, that saved threads with the highest rated files, or something similar would work.

This made me think of something (for some reason). Do you think Bungie could get away with going over the 5% of total employees cap set on them for using the webteam to work on "other projects" besides Destiny if they used some people to begin working on optimization of the site for Destiny and it's related features? Because that's technically working on the game to an extent; isn't it? So, say the webteam was originally five people (and Bungie only had 100 employees), then they could have 3 people work on Destiny/site integration while 5 other people work on upgrading the sites features as far as the forums and design look.

Now the webteam is 8 people, has 8% of Bungie's work force, but only 5% are working on non-Destiny stuff. It was just something that popped into my head.

Absolutely not.

The Files Forums are/were clear evidence that doesn't work very well, just as The Classifieds forum doesn't work well for advertisements.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

@daz - Is the Gallery forum included in that?
