In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Bans don't solve spam. They just happen to be the only tool we have at the moment.

That will change.

I can understand why the ninjas don't carpet ban often, but I do wish they did it more.

Seriously, if I was ever made a mod here, I would crack down so hard on the Flood (and other forums as well) that the bungie.net team would probably revoke my position in a weeks time. I have not patients for trolls or flammers.

Can't stop a tidal wave, bro.
You stop a tidal wave by sending another tidal wave of equal force at it, duh everyone knows that.

Anyway all kidding aside, carpet banning has the same effect in the individuals mind as a regular ban would (at least I think), and just like a regular ban I assume they are forgotten rather quickly by most users as people have been getting banned for years and it doesn't seem to slow the amount that are handed out.

I'll be on my own side.

Individually banning/warning everyone is tedious as hell. Unless of course you would like it if we copy/pasted ban messages and handed out the same ban, regardless of history.

Not a fan of the carpet ban, personally. Doesn't really solve anything, just means I get a bunch of PMs about it.

The fact that you have labeled a thread as the "largest", creates for a inane sense of competition that people have.

Almost like we tried for ages to get the first ever full mythic page, as pathetic as it may seem, if mods did this really often, people would make a bunch of second accounts and try to get the biggest carpet ban. We wouldn't want that would we?

Whoo.

Because if you're banned for simply posting in a thread then you just think you're getting banned for a bull-blue!- technicality rather than a actually breaking any rules.

You'd be surprised how many people have multiple warnings/bans in their history for replying to spam.

No, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't.

Possibilities I see in the future:

-Automatic, actual carpet ban. Deletion of thread as well.
-Filter for websites, like the profanity filter. I.e, stuff like genericbadsite.com is blocked off.
-IP Bans.
-Moderator Rotations.
-Report Feature powers extended. Can now hide a thread from everyone but the mods. For example, when you click a report, a button such as "Obvious Spam" will be one of the options, and a large amount of this will close the thread temporarily, until a ninja member fiddles with it.

I still don't think banning someone before even seeing their post is good moderating, carpet bans shouldn't be something thrown out whenever a random thread goes sour, plus I'm pretty sure they can delete threads already.

Wouldn't be a bad idea, although if someone is really commited to it they'll just use a URL shortener, so it might not be worth the effort.

They also have that but don't apply it in case they ban innocent users incorrectly, it's not fair a whole whatever campus should suffer because one guy is a dick.

Wouldn't making the moderators take shifts turn it into real work rather than volunteer work?

It sounds like a good idea but when you look at report button spam attacks then having the ability to "delete" a thread with the report button just doesn't sound like a good idea.
