Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

If you were to post in a thread where the OP was trolling, or doing something bad. And you just wanted to weigh in, maybe he's new, he doesn't know religious discussion is prohibited, so you try to convey that in your post.

A mod sees this thread, which is against the rules. Religious thread, so he carpet bans the thread. Now you and many other innocent posters who are trying to correct the OP's ways are now banned.

I don't like carpet bans.

There is a certain point of tolerance that should never be reached.

Having been caught in a few carpet bans myself, I can say that while they effectively end all spamming, they can kill the discussion.

Many nights on the Flood have been cut short by a spam thread ending in a carpet ban.

Because there is no "ban all button". They have to ban every user one at a time.
As well as this, I find it unfair that they go by the 'One kid in the class is misbehaving, therefore you all get detention' type of banning.

I agree.

I've never been involved in a carpet ban but it's unfair for those who were merely posting.

So ninjas have to ban every user individually? Oh my

Imagine if they mistakely pressed the "unleash ninjas on everyone" button. Imagine the horror that would ensue if they did that in the Member titles thread...

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Why do people always say this? Do you even have any idea how flawed IP bans are? Cooleges/University's use one IP. If a few people use Bungie.net there, and one gets banned, every single person suffers for that mistake. Also, IP's are easy as hell to change for home computers, making them irrelevant in that regard.

Bans don't solve spam. They just happen to be the only tool we have at the moment.

That will change.

Hmm... Positive or negative enforcement?
Electric shock.
Sooooo... positive? Charge, that is. We follow normal current here.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

I swear I posted in that thread but since I'm not banned, guess I didn't.

Carpet banning is stupid. It's completely unrealistic to expect no one to reply to spam threads. Banning everyone who does doesn't do anything to fight the problem. In fact, it gives trolls more of an incentive to create spam threads, because they can bring people down with them.

If someone actually thinks that carpet banning solves anything, they they shouldn't be a mod.

If it did, I'd be mixed with feelings including shock, surprise, bewilderment, anger, and sadness.

Then I would laugh at the inevitable complaints that would follow.

It's scary and painful. Specially if you post in there without thinking, then you see people be taken away one by one till you're next D:

You mean most members "helpful" tips are nothing more than a mod grab, and they don't actually care if they are helping?

Surely you jest, this community isn't desperate at all.
