Subject: Can i change my time zone on Bungie.net

At the moment its on PDT and I want it on GMT.
Can any one tell me a way to change it please?

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

It isn't currently possible.

unfortunately not. GMT doesn't seem to be an option.

They should make it optional.

I agree. Another Forum I go on has this, and it makes it so much easier

Excuse me supertripon, but we all know that Bungie.net is not facebook. I think we figured that out when we saw Bungie's logo instead of facebook's. Simply because a website's function may mirror another site's does not mean that those websites become the same.

Swag punks, fuck off!

I think you can do it from your computer settings, I don't know for sure. I think it should be an option though.

This sort of post is usually made sarcastically. I feel like you're not being sarcastic.

This saddens me.

You can't sorry.

We can't - do you know how many timezones there are, and how many variations of daylight savings time (that change every year and are set by law, not by something predictible)? Do you realize how difficult it would be to figure out what time someone is talking about when they say "5:00pm?" Do you realize how annoying it would be to make a seperate cache bucket for each timezone?

That's insane. I long ago decided that it was not worth the trouble. Thus we always use the local timezone of the primary database server... which is set to use Bungie Standard Time (aka, Pacific Time, -8 UTC, or Pacific Daylight Time, -7 UTC, depending on the time of year).

Because timezones are irritating - they're set by the law of the territory you live in, not any standard authority. For example, even in the US, there are lots of little exceptions that make it wrong for people. And outside the US, there are lots of weird things with timezones.

Bungie.net used to allow you to set your timezone (before 2004), but not only did it suffer from all the problems I just mentioned, having to cache pages based on timezone was a huge pain and also crappy for perf (I can't show you the pacific coast timezone cache if you're on the east coast).

So, bungie.net uses the timezone of whatever its database is set to: Bungie Standard Time (which is either PST or PDT depending on the time of year).

I propose it be changed to GMT. It's fine the way it is for me, but I'm sure this would help those who are familiar with their timezone's GMT difference and are outside of the States.

It's fun to see your obnoxious posting style fail.

OT: Now, after reading Verachi's Acky Quotes, I get how tedious and annoying this'd be to pull off.

Bungie cannot have a small feature that Facebook has or it's copying the site. I love your logic

Exactly.

Have the site output each date/time as a UNIX timestamp, then let Javascript convert that into local time and format it to local conventions.

Easy.

I just had an awesome idea! What if only Mythics and maybe legendary members could change their time zone? It would be an awesome perk plus it would make people want to behave them self's! (I'm just kidding don't freak out)

You never know though, hopefully on Bungie.next they'll figure out a way to make this happen without all that hassle. Being able to change the time zone would be a good addition to the site.

At first it really bugged me that I couldn't change it but now I don't care as much. My brain automatically changes the time for me.

OT: I have no problem with Bungie's Time. I really like the fact that the date of each post is the same to every member.
