What you all have to remember is that all of the contents of the book has to go through 343i prior to it being published. This is not just KT writting whatever she wants. It has to be vetted and approved.

Which is something i am having a hard time believing because of the sheer about on contradictions in the novel.

Well, I know someone in a private group here who's in contact with KT, and apparently Traviss is given a 'concrete set of guidelines' she has to stick to.

Guidelines would refer to major events and timelines, not the details in between, otherwise there would be no point in having an outside author. She's still getting to write what she wants mostly, and what she writes happens to be awful.

So, it seems the opinions are split once more? From what you have read, is there a lot of retcons?

At comicon all they said was "This and this needs to be done by this time" It didn't sound concrete from that.

And yes Mach there is another round of issues. Elites acting like brutes, Humans teaching brutes how to be brutish,Halseys hate club, halsey being a slave, ONI directly acting out against Hood/the UNSC, MAGGIE.

Ugh, it is going to be a chore to read this other than the forerunner parts.

Goody. Same question to those who like what they have read, how is it in the fluff department?

I agree that she has liberties in what she writes, but I also believe that if it was something that was so far out, they (343i) would say to remove it.

Evidently not. There are some pretty dodgy things cropping up so either 343i agreed to them, in which case shame on them, or they didn't look closely enough, in which case shame on them. Either way, Traviss should have done her homework before blindly jumping in and f*&%$!g things up.

Read all of the preview, didn't have an issue with any of it. I've been an ardent fan of Halo for years, have studied every piece of canon there is, and TTW's all fine so far as I see it.

Elites charging a brute like brutes, jackals, and grunts tore into human prisoners for food is not wrong at all?

Or a spartan "taking down brutes and elites in hand to hand and not breaking a sweat." not wrong?

As WF said above me, I don't really have much of a problem as far as what I have read. I may be missing something but I don't think so.

I know that a lot of people has a problem with the Halsey bashing but that did not bother me.

I actually think that she did a good job in portraying the civil unrest and utter chaos which is affecting the Covenant. Their lives have been torn apart from the war and now they are lost.

Similar events have taken place in our own history when people are pushed to their limits.

If what grey says is true about it, then you have obviously not "studied" much canon. I may be out of the game since Halo: Reach's debauchery and the mehtastic Contact Harvest, but even I know that the Elites aren't unreasonable. Dogmatic, maybe, but not completely stupid (nor cruel and unusual). The Elites have been compared to Honor driven societies (Japan, for example). You say "well they used cloaking mechanisms, obviously that's not honorable". Look at Japan, they had Shinobi which operated on the same principle. You can't fault an entire race just for one group's actions.

You mean a lynch mob tearing someone apart? That's happened in human history too, and not just with rope. With the Sangheili having claws, it makes even more sense.

A mob has the mentality of a 5 year old child.

As for the Spartan 'not breaking a sweat,' that's just how Vaz viewed it. If you saw a giant armoured titan take on a bigger foe and win without being injured, you'd be awed as well. Naomi was probably experiencing the desperation John felt when taking on the Jiralhanae in First Strike, but didn't let it show externally.

Every 'complaint' I've seen in this thread hasn't been a legitimate one.

Two Elites holding a brute down is not right, a brute would not let a mere 2 elites pin it down. Elites eating and ripping that brute to shreds doesn't seem to fit either at least in my opinion.

Naomi killed that brute with one punch if i remember right. don't quote me on that.

Your village has just been attacked with many of your friends and family killed. In addition, those attackers you have provided food and shelter to. They were betrayed and wanted revenge.

In WWII, the French would mutilate a German soldier if they could for all the hardships they inflicted upon them. During riots in present day the same thing happens.

The book never states what the Jiralhanae's condition is when the two 'Sangheili troopers' (trained soldiers, whereas the Jiralhanae is a civilian) is dragged towards the mob. It could have been shot, or stabbed, or drugged.

Or, perhaps it was just that two troopers - trained to fight and subdue - were able to do just that to a Jiralhanae who isn't in the army and likely has no combat experience.

The mob never ate the Jiralhanae - the book mentions that the Sangheili are carnivores not to imply that the Jiralhanae is eaten, but to remind the reader that they have claws and fangs which can tear apart flesh much easier than a human's fingernails and molars. They just tore him apart. Again, a mob isn't like a person - there's no honour, conscience or guilt in a mob. There's a reason why movements like the triple K persisted for so long.

As for the fight with the Jiralhanae in Glasslands, it's been a while since I read it too. If it was just a punch then sure, unlikely, but a well-placed punch with enough power behind it could kill anyone. That's why you've got to be careful if you get into a fight - you could accidentally end up being charged with manslaughter.

Again, there's not a single thing wrong with TTW.

Jiralhanae are inherently strong, hulking, beasts. in "stomping on the heels of a fuss" A young brute that wasn't even an adult yet was said to be stronger than the chieftan which had somewhat experience and was far older. They even fight at the end of the story if i remember correctly.

With everything that has been shown and established about the brutes a cannot see two elites of any type physically holding back a brute.

*ok you corrected the carnivore part and i understand mob mentality. My issue is on the brute being restrained by two elites.

I know that about a punch but still, a spartan K.Oing a brute is rather excessive. One punch kills a brute and one punch breaks halsey's nose. I see the differences within the two situations but still. One is overwhelming while the other is underwhelming.

I think they could, easily. As I said, the Sangheili are military and so were the Jiralhanae in SotHoaF. This Jiralhanae isn't military. He might not work out; he could have little muscle or even be terminally ill for all we know. Whereas I'm sure the Sangheili are at the peak of their physical fitness and have been trained in combat. And as I said, we don't know what the state of the Jiralhanae was. The troopers could have shocked him, shot him, doped him - anything.

Naomi, a Spartan-II, put all her power behind the punch. Kelly, a Spartan-III, didn't. The weight behind a punch can be easily regulated, as can the point at which you pull it. There's a difference between me punching if I'm in a proper fight to me play-fighting with my five year old brother, for example.

I was using an analogy, mate. What makes you think Kelly put all her force into the punch she dealt Halsey? It's likely she was impressed upon by Mendez from a young age to keep her strength under check, so that a situation akin to John tearing the ODSTs apart after his augmentation wouldn't happen.

But we're getting off track here - that's a purported 'issue' of Glasslands (and not one I subscribe to.) We're talking about TTW, and how you seem to think it's a mess of canon even though it's quite clearly not.

I am so confused. I thought lucy punched hasley and it was described that she was shaking with anger and that a shockwave rolled down her arm. which you normally get when you are trying to break the persons face.

Sorry, I meant Lucy; I always get those two mixed up. I don't know how many times you've broken a person's face, so I won't challenge your expertise there. But to be honest, you can punch anything and it'll send a tremor down your arm that you'll feel. With Lucy's heightened senses, she'd feel it even stronger.

I personally never was happy with the assertion that S3s are equal to S2s. I know Reach depicts them in that way, but we know how many issues that game has. I'm not doubting an S3 is stronger than a human, but I don't think they're as strong as an S2. Everything in Glasslands supported that.

All Jiralhanae are "military", they are a barbaric and primal society.

Haha! Are you serious? Brutes don't work out! They are naturally strong and muscular, the same as gorillas. You don't see Silverbacks doing chin-ups to work on their guns.

LUCY is the spartan III who hit Halsey. She hit her in a blind rage, there was no control. She should have caved her skull in.
