...And so the hero crawled through the fissure on the surface of Tyr. There, the lone Dwarf stared into the cold, dark eyes of Soulblighter...The fiend hefted his blade over his shoulder as a flock of raven took upon his form...

STOP EXPLODING YOU COWARDS!

Ever heard of a comma? But to answer your question, although some poeple think the Arbitor's levels weren't as fun, I thought they were. They helped move the story along...otherwise the story would have been almost exactly like Halo 1.

The thing about Arby was that his Camo was pointless for most the game. Most his levels were against flood, and flood can detect you even if you are invisible.

Though I feel Master Chief is one of the best characters I've seen in any medium, I have to favor the Arbiter for his role in Halo 2. The Arbiter is a "tragic hero," something uncommon in video games. For his original role, I have to favor him above Master Chief which is a far more typical type of character in video games than trageci heroes are. In the end, however, both are outstanding characters.

The story of the Arbiter is similar to the story in the movie Gladiator. A general who loses everything, yet becomes greater than he was before. Also, I agree with what you said above.

I like the Chief 'cause he is one of a kind, as far as we know...

The Arbiter is just another elite basically.

I prefer the Chief over the Arbiter, though I did enjoy playing as the Arbiter quite a bit as well.

The Halo REACH Script (post thoughts in thread)

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

Howbout these ideas?

I haven't seen this posted anywhere, and it doesn't really fit in with campaign ideas...but post what you would like to see accomplished in SP, and cutscenes =D

Say, 17 levels, go
:

Mine are:

* LEVEL 01:
--Not a playable mission for the first half, but it would be a long cutscene like the openning one in Halo 2, and then something similar to "The Armory" from Halo 2.

--It would start out in the debrief chamber in the Pillar of Autumn, before the events of Halo CE. This scene will introduce you to the other SPARTANS (following the exact events of the book, and you are told where you are going..split up into two teams, yadayadayada)

--The second half could be testing your reflexes, and armor system one last time before getting inthe Pelican.

* LEVEL 02: Circumference
--You take control of Master Chief, and do the mission which consists of you destroying the nav data, and Linda dying, and James becoming MIA.

* LEVEL 03: REACH
--You are playing as Fred, Red team leader, A cutscene will show the "Hot Drop", and then you will need to engage in melee combat with the pair of Jackals

--Get their weapons, and meet up with the Marines...

--Plant the Tac Nuke with Kelly and Joshua, and fight remaining Covenant troops

* LEVEL 04: Cortana
--Play as the Arbiter, Go with Johnson, Miranda, and 343 GS, your objective is to reach a Scarab

--Fight Brutes, Jackals, etc. and then get a Scarab, and find a Covenant Stealth ship to escape High Charity, on the way you find Cortana, and pick her up...

--Cortana informs them of Graveminds plan to get back to Earth with the Flood..the Arbiter stays behind, while Johnson and Miranda and GS bring Cortana to Earth...

* LEVEL 05: The SPARTAN IIIs
--Play as Kelly, who has gone with Halsey on a secret mission after the events of Halo CE

--Play through the level, either defeating Covenant, Flood, or the new SPARTANs...whichever way Bungie is going to take those guys.

* Level 06: The ________ (Forerunner ship's real name)
--Play as MC when he gets back to Earth in the Forerunner ship, fight your way to Truth.

--In this level, you would'nt get to kill Truth, he gets away just before you do, with his personal guards

* LEVEL 07: Homecoming
--Play as MC, get out of the ship and make your way a few miles North, to a Marine base so that you can get in contact with Highcom

--Fight your way through the "Original Covenant", the ones encountered in the beginning of Halo 2..before the civil war to reach your objective

* LEVEL 08: Escape High Charity
--Keep boarders off the Scarab as Johnson brings you through a wrecked Flood infested Covenant city

--Exit the Scarab, and clear a way to a nearby Stealth ship, with a slipspace generator

* LEVEL 09: Colonel Ackerson
--In this level, a cutscene will explain how Johnson got away from the Flood, and why Ackerson has an interest in the Spartan IIIs

* LEVEL 10: Hell on Earth...well, almost.
--Flood are detected on the Forerunner ship, and it is locked down on Truth's orders, so that the Ark will not get infected.

--Bring a Nuke with Marines to plant it inside the ship.
You learn of the time warp when you encounter Truth on the ship, and you realize that the events of Halo are about to happen..you need to make sure that it doesn't fire..

* LEVEL 11: Alpha Halo
--You reach Alpha Halo...it is just as it was..it's not destroyed..the Covenant scout force has not even arrived yet, let lone the PoA

--You land, and need to make your way to the library with the marines you brought with you..

* LEVEL 12: The Library Revisited
--At the entrance to the Library, 343 GS opens it, and closes the doors behind you when you all enter..

--The Flood infection forms attack..

--Try to take the index..ask the question GS refers to when he says "Last time you asked..yadayada."

--GS brings you to the control room... you start to run with the index, and he sends Sentinels after you, and are Evaced by a Pelican

--A cutscene shows you learn that something is being activated by Truth back on Earth..you then enter slipspace and race back

* LEVEL 13: "Family" Reunion
--In Earth, you get to a Space Dock, and are greeted by Dr. halsey, and all the SPARTAN IIs, and SPARTAN IIIs (if they are on your side).

--You need to drop into the atmosphere in a Pelican...still remembering what happened on REACH, you prepare for atmospheric entry, and bring Parachutes

--Once you touch down, you need to make your way to a Marine base, fight Covenant (now engaged in the civil war) on the way, with your SPARTANs

--Once you reach there, try to remote detonate the nuke..but the signal won't penetrate the Forerunner metal...you need to do it manually

* LEVEL 14: If you can't beat 'em...Nuke 'em.
--Play as the MC...

--Fight through waves of Flood, and Covenant on the way in with your Marines..343 GS follows you to help.

--Once the ordinance is planted, get out of there..

* LEVEL 15: The Gravemind
-- Play as the Arbiter, and fight you way through legions of Brutes, Jackals, etc. to reach the Hierarch's chambers.

--Now, you must fight Flood, and new Flood forms (Flood Brutes), and Juggernauts...you must detonate Hich Charity...From their quarters, dodge Gravemind's attacks, and detonate High Charity by activating the three switches (one per prophet), one on each side of the Cavernous room..

--Once this is accomplished, High charity lurches, and crashes into Delta Halo, destroying them both and forever putting an end to The mind of the Flood..and the Arbiter *tear*

* LEVEL 16: Truth
--Play as Master Chief, and manually activate the nuke..you have 7 minutes to get off the ship...

--You need to drive out in a hog, "The Maw" style...

--When you reach the Phantom bay, Truth is trying to escape..either take him out or stall him until the time runs out.

--With the Key (The Forerunner Ship) destroyed, the Ark is not activated..

* LEVEL 17: Reconcilliation
--Chief escapes, and gets out of range of the blast site..

--343 GS explains the Forerunner lineage, who they were..who we are..and how we got here..he then thanks you, and states that he will run "installation 00"..The Ark, and he then takes off...

--The Covenant now form a new Covenant...humans, elites, brutes...all the other races as well. Peace is finally achieved...Or is it?

--Pentinent Tangent is seen flying out of the wreckage, much like 343 GS did at the end of Halo CE.

**ROLL CREDITS**

---------For everyone who doesn't believe in more SPARTANs:

This was shown to me by Opog, great theorist..this is a quote from the man who wrote the Halo bible that all games, books, and illustrations, etc. are based upon

--Eric Trautmann

"Re: Spartan strength: I am aware that there is an APPARENT discrepancy between the reported number of Spartans and the ACTUAL number of Spartans.

Emphasis on APPARENT. ;)

We leave lots of hooks for future development buried in the text, to accomodate several ideas/stories we have percolating. Some may see the light of day, some may not.

In general, its best to chalk such discrepancies up to "the fog of war" and if we get the chance, we've got a great explanation for the apparent discontinuity."

what is the point of this post...?

both of them are great to play with...

so i ask again... WTF is the point here???

  • 06.22.2006 12:01 AM PDT

It would be so much more interesting to meet your old squad mates (if you read the novel, some of them survive), and fight together. Something like the Brothers in Arms command system. Simple yet effective.

Anyways, back on topic, the Master Chief is more interesting, partly because of his MJOLNIR armor, but playing as the Arbiter wasn't too bad. His missions did suck, but it made the whole Halo 2 experience more diverse, not just from the Human's point of view. Actually, if you think about it, playing as the Arbiter is somewhat important because it allows you to see the parts of the Covenant, parts you would never see, like the Civil War within the Covenant towards the end of the game, and having the Elites fight alongside the Humans etc.

Go active camo! ^_^

Nah, the arbiter is more handy if your shields go down. Especially on legendary. Even though the master chief's shields are strong..I think.
