The user would gain more knowledge about trolls (Ed. I never knew about trolls until a couple months of activity on Bnet), the video could be short, but memorable (Roleplaying DeeJ?), and they'd gain a little prize at the end for watching.

That's the whole point of the video. Just like you I didn't really know what a troll was till being in the site for a while. If I had known what a troll was earlier my experience would have been better as a greeny to the intrentz.

All that's left is to see a ninja's input on the ban hammer idea and we'd be all set.

A ninjas input would be nice but I'm not sure if they can talk about the hammer at all.

Did you edit your post? I swear you asked for a quote about in game things that unlock titles.

You know, I think I did say that, but in may have been in an earlier post or a thread dealing with titles and such. I think it'd be really cool to see challenges in game unlocking titles for you on Bnet, which would really bolster the Community- Developer relationship some companies try to accomplish.

Also, it'd be nice to know whether the ninjas can discuss the Banhammer or not, although I can't say I've seen ninjas ever discuss it (think carpet bans thread). Thanks for Achronos' post as well.

The checkbox/checklist idea is interesting in that, although it aides in the process of carpet banning, it does permit moderators to discriminate between regular posts and those in violation.

Indeed.

I do not like the idea of additional warnings to reply because of a report. The post hiding report feature is already bothersome enough. There was recently an excellent thread made by Helveck, by which many users reported the OP (because people who report are silly), requiring an extra effort to even read it before responding. If additional warnings systems are to be implemented, I would like them all to have the option of being disabled in User Settings.

I for one like the post collapsing feature. If I come across a thread that is collapsed, I'm careful on clicking on the links that the op provides. When wrong threads get wrongfully reported then it can be bothersome. I wish mods could remove the report of such threads that way the post wouldn't be collapsed. Maybe the warning before you post would be too bothersome but I don't see Example 2 getting on the way. I'm not opposed to the option of turning it on and off on Example 3.

I really like the video idea. My first thread got me a warning because I didn't know any better (yes, I skipped the reading the rules....My bad).

Not sure about the warning though about posting in a reported thread. I say it would need to be reported multiple times before that seemed appropriate to pop up. Could you imagine all the uninformed reporting decent threads? And new people being to afraid to post in them?

Example 3
I like this a lot, but I feel like trolls would just report threads in the masses so that you'd have to click OK just to post in any thread.

That being said, I believe there is a way of monitoring thread reporting and reporting threads that aren't against the rules can get you banned. So, all in all, I like Example 3.

I don't belive that happens often now days, I don't think it would change if this were implemented. I see what your saying though. I agree with you that mods should have more dominion over the report system. Like I mentioned before in this post, I think it would be good if mods could uncollapse threads. Also that's where Duck duck death's idea could come in handyPosted by: Duck duck DEATH

It already seems like if you abuse the report system you can get in trouble for it.

Posted by: Achronos
The moderators can't see who reported a post. They only see the amount of unique users reporting. However, the system itself does track who reported what and the result of that report - so if you submit enough reports to waste the moderator's time, the system will report you to the moderators for possible abuse of the reporting system.Posted by:Agent Peeps
I think my question would be not why can we report ourselves but to the mods and bungie staff:

What is your reaction when you look at the report que and the person reported is the same as the person reported by?

Posted by: hawkeye543
And those that do care would be scared to post, and that's a pretty poor environment to be a part of. Bungie.net shouldn't and doesn't need to be ruled with an iron fist.

I'd appreciate it if you elaborated a little more.

I never liked the ban system, a member a year or two ago made a thread about how people who are banned should be able to post, but no one can see their posts while they are banned. I've always smiled upon that idea.

I always liked the idea of collapsing threads when reported where the users would see:
v

I'd be a really big fan if they showed this if a post was reported. However, I also think the current system in place now for it works fine, but there's always room for variations.

That would kind of defeat the purpose of bans being annoying.

I really like the instructional video idea When I came to the site, I was totally ignorant about forum etiquette. A video would be helpful and no one could claim ignorance.

but do you think this would be effective?

People don't want to come here to have a quiz everytime a new "Internet OHS" video comes out. The reason people get other users completely worked up is because they don't care for the rules, because there's really no incentive to do so. Having videos and quizzes won't fix this IMO.

You misunderstand. When I say the "quiz" is easy, I mean EASY. For example:

What is the Flood for?
A. Off Topic
B. Not off topic.

Not to even be a true "test" of knowledge, just a way of proving you watched the the video. 3 or 4 questions of this caliber shouldn't take more than 20 seconds to complete. It doesn't even have to be presented in a traditional format.

That is a good idea, the slideshow is informative and quick, the only problem I can see with it, is that people would just power through the slideshow. Videos are usually better to catch peoples attentions.

How about a tutorial slideshow like the one Bungie Pro had?

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this, I had intentions to reply to it when I first saw it but my add got the best of me.

And a short easy quiz (4-5 multiple choice questions, 1 minute to complete) would make sure they watched it instead of just walking away from the screen or looking at another tab.

Positive vibes.

Personally, I think a quiz is a less than stellar idea. Maybe make the video eye-catching enough so that a quiz isn't necessary to keep them interested.

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

It would be pretty amusing to have a video during the registration process that you would have to watch 7 times to make sure that you didn't miss anything about posting online. The truth is, no matter what you do, there will always be people that just try to break the rules. They have no regard for them and due to anonymity, it's easy to break rules and only have their account banned.

You'd think they would learn, but it doesn't phase them. Also, I was just sent this video about how to post on a forum. It's actually humorously entertaining. It needs more Bungie to it.

The only cure for trolls is common sense. If you're new to the whole internet thing, you'll learn sooner or later.

This would be ideal. The quiz is not all that bad but it would be better if the video was interesting enough that people would want to watch it. If a quiz were to be implemented then, I'd say to disguise it so people don't know they are taking a quiz.

Sadly there isn't much you can do to people like that, but for people like me and others in this thread, something like this would have helped on the begging.
