ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

Pretty much T4R. I've been seeing posts in other forums where I know for a fact it's a troll, but what they say doesn't necessarily cross the line, but makes it obvious they're a troll.

So, what does the majority of Community members do in a situation like this? Report and move on, or ignore the user and visit somewhere else?

Positive vibes.

'Don't report when unsure' seems more appropriate, in my personal opinion. Reporting when you are unsure is the same as falsely assuming.

If I am not posting, then I am reading what you might have posted.

I report and move on. Also, might notify a mod if necessary.

I know many of you 'veterans' use the report and move on. I, simply know you guys will do it, so I don't bother reporting. Honestly, some threads on the Community claiming to 'fix' trolling or better the situation by suggesting a new system is unneeded. (IMO) If I enter a troll thread like john cena or meat spin..I just go to another thread.

What do you mean by "bother"? How hard is it to report? All you have to do is click a button...

Don't rely others to report, you should do it too. It takes more then one report for it to appear on the queue.

Key

As long as you have a reason for legitimate concern you won't get in trouble. The only people who get nabbed for report button abuse are those who advertise it or do it 24/7.

If everybody in this site had that mentality, then trolls wouldn't be a problem. Except you should report as you are leaving. I agree with what talon said.

I have seen you future

I'll report when I see a blatant rule breaking post, especially if somebody is being especially rude to somebody else. If it's something borderline, or not really that bad then I might just pass it by.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

If you are unsure, I would advise reporting. Mostly because it takes a number of reports, and even if the post makes it into the moderator queue, that only means it will get checked out, not immediately banned.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

Even if you aren't 100% sure whether or not it "crosses the line", it doesn't hurt to hit the report button. There won't be any repercussions if the mods see a reported thread and find nothing wrong with it.

The problem is that most people have the "someone else will do it" mentality, so no one reports it in the end and the trolls keep causing problems. If you don't, who will?

As to the OP's question: use your own discretion. If a post or thread gets reported, the mods have to investigate. If the poster is innocent, then no punishment is dealt.

However, you should note that the act of trolling is against the rules. Even if the content of the post is fair, the act of trolling still deserves to be reported. The rules say, "Do not troll. Do not feed the trolls."

Moderators don't expect you to have a perfect understanding of the rules; if it's in your grey area, you may report it. I asked a similar question a while ago, and a moderator said this in reply:Posted by: Old Papa Rich
I would say report it if it bothers you. You could go around and report everything you see, but it might become time consuming and eliminate any fun in visiting the site. So if something is minor and you have no trouble ignoring it, then it's entirely up to you.

If you are asking this because you are worried about consequences of false reporting, don't. While mistakes can happen, it is extremely rare. Just don't report things out of spite. Be sure you aren't reporting someone because you disagree with what they are saying more than there is a rule being broken.
Don't worry about inconvenience. Like I said, as long as you aren't reporting people just because you don't like them instead of breaking a rule, you'll be fine.

I rarely juse the report button. If I see a shock site link or something really, really bad I'll use it, but often times I'll see something like that and it's already reported, so there's no point.
