Subject: Groups should be temporarily disabled.

I am a Floodian

Don't rage quit just yet, let me at least try and convince you that groups should be disabled from 2 week or a month.

As others have observed, this forum has a large amount of its activity come from members who's majority of activity take place in groups. I don't see anything wrong with that, and I understand the desire to get away from a forum, and talk to members you are more familiar with. However, at the moment, I think this is actually detrimental to the community as a whole.

Disabling groups would force activity back into the public forums. At the moment, with significant portions of the community going to 343 or other more active game websites, the community is smaller than it will be shortly. This means that it is the best time to bring more activity to the public forum and try and bring the community closer together. As we prepare as a community to bring in new members with the announcement of "Destiny" and other future Bungie projects, I think it would be beneficial to have a more united community.

I work at Microsoft. I have nothing to do with Halo and nothing I say is "the official word".

If you disable groups the people who are coming here solely for groups aren't going to start enjoying the mains again, they're just going to stop coming at all.

Groups > Septagon.

I'm not even active in any groups and I can tell you that. It's like if kids went into a spinach shop because the owner gives them free candy. Take away the candy and they'll just leave the -blam!- shop.

Exactly. Disabling groups won't bring them to the mains. Thats like saying since B&R closed, everyone will go to coldstone...Thats just poor logic.

I agree.

But should we want members who would only post in groups? Should them leaving deter people bringing more people into the main-forums.

The spinach shop owner wants the kids to come because they'll tell other kids about the awesome candy, and maybe some of them will like spinach but either way there's people in his shop. (also, it costs a dollar to enter his shop just to tie together the whole analogy)

I think strong ties in private groups do nothing but strengthen the community.

So I respectfully disagree.

A dollar per entry? Sounds like a hard bargain.

I'd just take my group offsite and say goodbye to Bungie.

What a shame.

Though the morrow may be barren of promises, nothing shall forstall my return.

Don't really know anybody on this site that well so groups don't effect me much.

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

That is a terrible idea.

I would rather not be forced to speak with specific people via public forums.

It's to parallel the fact that having any sort of traffic on Bungie.net is positive for Bungie. Silly, I know.

Why would we want to get rid of them? That makes absolutely no sense.

It is possible to commit no errors and still lose. That is not a weakness. That is life.

Cheeto is the only one among you that doesn't suck.

This is a very, very bad idea. For one, I come almost exclusively for the groups I'm in. Take that away, and many won't visit the site during that entire period. So your idea is actually worse for the site.

The solution to the problem of slow forums is for Bungie to announce their new game. Patience is the key.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

That sounds like a good way of driving people away from bungie.net, not bringing them to it.

Those who wish to create community often destroy it.

Groups > Septagon.

I'm honestly coming on Bungie because of groups. Without them, I wouldn't be here. The forums are dark enough. They don't need to be anymore dark-er.
