Unto the Fray we go

I mean, what happens after war is over and it's time for the Spartans to live civilian life? What happens to them when they grow old?

Maybe the Spartans are military personnel forever, never to live civilian life, but then again they may have some hope in civilian life, but they could also be killed off so ONI can keep it's secrets from being revealed.

Either way, the surviving spartans served us well, but woe to them when the war is over.

We are all going to get banned aren't we?

They don't retire and most of them don't want to. They have been in the military since they were 6 (3-6 for the SIIIS) none of them have anything else.

Do not waste your tears, I was not born to watch the world grow dim. Life is not measured in years, but by the deeds of men.

We should know better, because we are better.

Thankfully (for us), the war will not end any time soon. Most of them have died in combat, and those that survive are just sent on another mission. If there is peace (unlikely), ONI will probably grab the Spartans and make them work behind the scenes.

What these two said. S-II's and S-III's have been trained to kill since a young age so its doubtful that they should go back to their familes.(ignore that fan fic known as Glasslands.) So ONI is have them go back to what they were trained form, taking out innies.

The only Spartans that will get a shot at civilian life are Spartan IVs. They are adult volunteers so it's acceptable.

Spartan IIs and IIIs will serve until they die. Even if they can't fight they can work for ONI in other areas because they were also given a world class education.

Somewhat true...I just remembered about Maria who was a S-II who retired from the Spartan program. I think that whole thing should be seen as non-canon.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Retirement is a word that doesn't exist in a Spartan's mind.

It's canon as she didn't actually "retire". She was just shot up badly before the Battle of Reach so she couldn't take part.

Why would they go live a civilian life? They'd just go do something else in the military, like training new generations of Spartans, or possibly taking command positions like on star ships, or taking on roles as military advisers...there's any number of things they could do, why does everyone assume negatives? >_>

Whatever the Spartans would be doing though, ONI wouldn't just kill them off...they may have started taking heavy amounts of stupid pills recently, but they're not that dumb, they're not going to waste all the money they invested into the IIs and IIIs just to keep secrets.

they'll probably get desk jobs. I know from the graphic novel that spartans do retire and even start families. (remember the training story?)

Oh Yes!

Contrary to what many have posted, I feel that Spartans could lead a normal life, although it might be hard to adjust. They'd also have to be severely injured or something else to be allowed to retire. I'm only saying this because Maria started a family -- if I remember correctly.

Edit: Someone already pointed this out.

Yeah... It would not be easy, but I see them able to live a life outside the military.

It's not like they would spill secrets, they have too much training to do that. Security or police forces would love to have them working with them heh.

So yep, I can see them going toward that, but it would not be easy or quick. I find the whole idea that EVERY SPARTAN MUST DIE IN BATTLE to not only be cliche, but overused and to expected. Let's get some frakking unexpected things in there (that make sense, not like a Spartan suddenly joining the rebels or romancing an elite).

Well, they're special forces, and unless they have a hobby, say, take up golf, they're going to be stuck into any fight for the government. That's how it always seems to work.
