Subject: When does a Ninja Perma Ban someone?

I have very rarely seen cases of where a Ninja has banned for longer then a month. So it makes me curious as to how often they issue permanent bans. I realize that posting shock images/sites is an immediate perma, but are there any other reasons for permanently blacklisting someone from this site?

What a hipster.

When they deserve it. Anything really involving harassment of others.

Why do you want to know such information? Just curious.

Making [a(n)] extremely tasteless thread(s) and extensive ban history are two I can think of.

I've known a few members to get perma'd. Pretty much if you piss the Mods and/or Online team off enough. (For a good reason/s of course).

I've seen a member in a private group complain about how they were banned by a mod for simply having a ban history of 26 bans. I didn't surprise me when I found out which mod it was.

I know for a fact that I am above and beyond 26 bans. Who Perma'd him?

Don't mind me butting in here, but I've heard of ban histories of 30+ bans. I was once perma'd on this site but I had <20 bans at the time and the person who perma'd me was known to be extensive in his hammer usage. I haven't been banned since '09, I learned my lesson.

That being said, you shouldn't be looking at a number of bans and saying "oh I'm safe;" the safest thing is to never get banned. It isn't very hard to stay unbanned, just use your common sense and have fun within the limits of the CoC and Forum Rules.

Permanent bans can also result from not-so-extensive ban histories if your bans spring from heinous forms of rule breaking.

I've seen mythic members in the title thread talk about their "Over 30 bans" so I wouldn't be too worried.

Most of my bans were from trivial matters. Am I safe from the Forum Electric Chair?

For now, yes. Just use your brain and you will no longer have to worry about these trivial matters. Self control.

For a few reasons, I will not easily disclose which mod banned him, because I will probably be banned for doing so. Other mods may not care, but this one certainly will. My cautious nature around this mod is justified. And many others would too if they found out who I was referring to. Now that you have read this paragraph, can you analyze it closely enough to know who I am referring to?

...

Anyways, I think mods will be less likely to permaban you for your history if you are a valued member of the community, just look at yorkie, he has 32-34 bans, but he will probably never be permabanned for his history because we all love yorkie.

Shock sites/p0rn/illicit materials will all get your a pretty hefty ban, especially if you have already been banned for similar things.

I am not sure what would merit an IP ban though. Or is a permaban inherently an IP ban?

Yes, but I'd bet only if the user had a prior ban history of a similar nature.

You can have a fair amount of bans ad still be alright if you keep your nose clean. Hell, I've gotten somewhere around 10 bans, most of them in my early days. I think I had a 2 month ban at one point. I went straight, though, and haven't had any trouble since.

I think in order to get a permaban you have to do something pretty awful.
