How can we stop those cheaters from ruining our halo3 lives? no matter what Bungie does, they always seem one step ahead! Should we impose harsh penalties, or what?
(ps, if s4ndp4perm4n posts on this thread, you have my perrmission to eat his babies)

Feedback. Unless you are making the game, there is nothing you can do.

Oh, and since the 2 month free-trial cards have already met their end, I doubt cheating will be much of a problem anymore.

dude, you pulled a jesus!

Well they haven't been able to make any modchips for the 360 yet (can't get passed the epoxy), so I'm not to worried about that. Now stand-by I'm not so sure of, but I think Bungie has something to deal with that

Here's an idea: during "matchmaking" (i really hope they do away with it because it sucks) give us a grace period of say 5-10 seconds after the game starts in which we are able to quit out of the game without our rank going down. otherwise, don't have ranks.

That little period be for a game starts that will allow you to quit is a good idea i think.

Frank O'Connor is a 12-year veteran of the videogame magazine industry and has therefore never worked an honest day in his life.

modding is not a problem because the 360 isn't hacked yet, the live service is better feedback and no more 2 months.
Standby again bungie said they had tools for this and the live service and no more 2 months fix that.
bridging won't be bad, Bungie can again detect cheat with bridging, No more 2 months and again better feedback.

OMG!!! Gaming For The Fun Of It In The UK and Europe!

The OMG Community Montage - a unique Halo3 DVD montage.

Don't try arguing with idiots. They'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Don't have downloadable content.

Seriously - that's the only way to stop cheating altogether. Once data is on the hard drive, it's only a matter of time before it's manipulated for self gain.

Of course, downloadable content is part of the XBL / Developer business plan, so they aren't going to stop that, and nor should they! Unfortunately this means there will always be some level of cheating on XBL.

The vast majority of Halo 2 cheating came from 2 things:
Boosting / standby etc which Microsoft have partly addressed by removing the free trials, and the advent of the Softmod for the xbox.

I've no doubt that eventually the 360 will be hacked, but as long as it remains a hardmod solution (and the forseeable future is that it will require a hell of a lot more technical expertise to add a mod to a 360) the level of cheating will be minimal. Far fewer people will risk toasting their shiny new 360...

However, as soon as a mod is made available to the 'Haxx0rz Kiddie' demographic by download and an easy install with minimal risk to their 360 - that'll be the day H3 is in real trouble. I hope it never comes. The softmod was the worst thing to happen to both the Halo and the Modding communites.

Personally, I used to laugh my ass of at posts people made along the lines of "HELP! I tried to soft mod my xbox for Halo mods and now it doesn't work!!"

Brilliant.

Create better detection software and have "spy players" whose job it is to play matchmaking all day everyday and find cheaters. With that in mind have harsher punishments for cheating-which should be clearly stated in the term and conditions. Fines perhaps?

Don't have downloadable content.

BASE makes some very good points. As long as the content is in the hands of the player where he can get at it, there is the scope to cheat.

I'd offer a different slant. As long as the network is in the hands of the player, there is scope to cheat. A network model where one player hosts the game, and all other players are at the mercy of his connection, is asking for trouble. Am I suggesting dedicated servers? Not necessarily. But a lot of thought must go into cheat-proofing the network model.
