I think the ending should have been like the diorama trailer.

Black Ops 2 I run two accounts warmup only at 1.97kdr...real is at 3.77. i'm in master division 4 league play. pm 4 clan inv...must have 2.5 kdr or better

Liked everything besides the battle with 343 Guilty Spark. It was a great campaign, but I am not a fan of the Halo story as a whole.

I think Reach has a huge part of the blame. Because of the inclusion of Spartan 3s and 4s (ruining the mystery of the Spartan program), I can no longer take the universe or ONI's role in it seriously. ONI and the Spartan program were supposed to be a serious military project and yet the Spartans became morale tools to get the civilization to fight. You would think Earth wouldn't need morale support to fight Grunts, Elites, ect. Elites kill quickly. The only things worth fearing are the Brutes because I could see them torturing humans. However, this is a United Earth we are talking about. They got passed building a united army and yet they won't stand up for human civilization? It's just a whole mess.

Halo 1 had a decent story. It was a fantasy like it should be and flowed well. Halo 2 had a lot of wtf moments and Halo 3 had a few of those as well. However, the whole take on Reach just threw it off for me. I got frustrated because I felt like they ruined any chance to give it a real beginning. It should have felt like ODST and had an organic approach. Instead it felt like Micheal Bay directed it with random explosions and stupid deaths ruining the story. ODST felt much like a standalone universe because the characters felt much more alive and real. I actually liked it the best, but it didn't have the fantasy feel to the rest of the series.

IMHO Cutscene and story wise Halo 3: ODST was the best. Gameplay wise I prefer Halo 3. Halo 2 had no redeeming qualities and the only thing I can say Halo 1 did well was with the snow environments and later levels (like the one with the banshee - it escapes me).

Level design wise I think it's like this:
Best: Halo 3 > Halo ODST > Halo Reach > Halo 1 > Halo 2

I'm editing this very poorly. Too bad, I'm lazy right now. Anyway, back to Halo 3. Favorite levels: Sierra 117, Covenant, Cortana, Halo. Levels I don't care for: Tsavo Highway, Floodgate. Overall, I enjoyed Halo 3 and wouldn't mind to play it again.

On the contrary, I thought the campaign was underrated.

Somewhat.

One reason why I ended up leaving Halo 3 was Reach. Reach comes out, nearly everybody I know abandons Halo 3. Campaign discussions become goldmines. Of course, I stuck with Halo 3 for a long time before I finally succumbed to peer pressure... I only stuck with Reach for a week (I made most of my discoveries and strategies for that game within this time span. that's how easy Reach was to me. Not legitimately challenging, severely limited).

Another reason I left was because of the last 2 levels. The last level is a lot like levels in Reach: you can skip most fights; the only difference from Reach is that there's more room for creativity due to a higher jump height and better weapon placement which encourages map movement. And of course, the Guilty Spark battle. Lastly, I found the hog run to be very limited in approach. There is a way to skip the circular structures but there's little room for error. There's also a way to avoid triggering the ending cutscene, but again, there's little room for error. I also found the Sentinels flipping the hog very annoying as well as the explosions, which play out differently on Heroic and Legendary, forcing memorization. So yes, there's a higher degree of skill in Halo 3 than there is in Reach. Nonetheless, the level design was simply disappointing.

Then there's the false difficulty. It isn't as severe as it is in Reach and the AI aren't terribly incompetent (they actively dive from grenades, they have high level of awareness but not to a point that they already know where you are) but the Brutes are still damage sponges and most of the sandbox are still limited to roles (spiker = anti-Hunter and anti-Chieftain, plasma rifle = anti-shield, smg = anti-flesh).

The last reason why I left Halo 3 is a personal one. I spent many hours in the campaign, starting over 30 projects simultaneously. In the end, I deleted most of them due to many inconveniences: mostly unchanged checkpoint system from Halo 2, game killing off enemies, broken geometry, disobedient marines. Hornet Army is the only one still intact.

My favorite levels were Sierra 117, The Storm, Floodgate, The Covenant.

I think the whole Halo campaign is amazing. I play it just to see the story for the first time, though I enjoyed Combat Evolved's the most

In memory of Flip-Yap

It was good overall.

However, guilty spark just flew in circles while you killed him.

It was a decent end to the trilogy, however, its epic did not grasp nearly the height of Halo 2. So, I suppose in a way, I do believe that Halo 3's campaign was a tad overrated.

"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

When I bought the game, I didn't even have Live, so I only played campaign. I actually loved it; I liked it as much as H2 and CE. Most people I've talked to all really enjoyed the campaign. The only major complaint I've hard would be some of the campaign resembling 'Oh good, we cleared that tower. Now let's go get the other one with the exact same layout."

Referring to "The Covenant" towers?

Yep, those are the ones. I liked that mission, but it was kind of annoying going through carbon copies of the previous area.

I loved and played the heck out of the campaign. Had over a 160,000 campaign kills and enjoyed helping a multitude of people get vidmaster, skull, and other misc achievements.

The only think I wish I could have changed was to mute Cortana's flashbacks. They got annoying after the 3 rd or 4th time.

I found it okay. I preferred the ODST campaign over H3 though.

Honorable mentions for levels go out to The Storm and The Covenant.

Halo multiplayer sucks!

Based on campaigns

Halo 2 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo 3 > Reach/CE tied

If anything it's underrated. I see loads of people saying that Halo 3 is alongside Reach as the worst Halo campaign. Personally I think it is above CE and Reach, but below Halo 2 and ODST

Hanger one I just shredded with the SMGs until ammo was out and I just threw 'nades like a boss while BRing.

My experience playing Cairo Station on Legendary

The Campaign wasn't bad, but it wasn't as amazing as Halo 2's.
