Positive vibes.

This sounds like a personal problem. No offense, but if you are suggesting this be implemented simply because you are having difficulties finding your post, or are slightly confused, I hardly see that as a valid reason to allow certain users upload avatars. However, supplying some of the, shall we say 'old-timers', with a little perk for their hard work and dedication seems a little more sensible.

I believe everyone should be allowed to choose from the entire avatar selection bestowed to us. Higher titled members will be more inclined to choose their newly gifted avatars and resultantly there will be some more confusion. Giving more options to the community to show off their own personality is better than reserving them for people who clicked "sign up" a few years earlier.

What a hipster.

Personally, I'm all for it. But if you want a new mindset on thinking about it, the oldies on the site in a way already do have custom avatars. Sure, They might not be custom uploaded like the Ninjas and their privileges, but the Halo 2 emblems play as a nice reward for the Old Skoolers of the Community.

I'm just saying that it seems petty to say that someone is more deserving of something based on title, account age, or anything like that.
Why?

Why shouldn't someone who has been a member for a long time be rewarded?
Why shouldn't someone who has been well behaved be rewarded?
etc...
I was going to mention you but seeing that you've posted I don't need. I, along with members like dazarobbo, like the idea of giving account age some meaning (cut down on second accounts, etc).

  • 09.03.2012 12:45 PM PDT

I don't see how second accounts do anything to account age, it's not like making a second account will stop your old account from being made in the past. You old account will still be old, you just have a backup.

Your missing my point. I mean that people will take their original accounts more seriously and won't just get banned so many times and just go on to make a new account where there is basically no difference than an account that you've had for, say, 4 years.

It definitely shouldn't be based off of account age, but on trust rating.

Indeed. Being on Bnet for a long time doesn't necessarily mean that you can be completely trusted.

I'm good with the public avatar choices.

OP, you aren't an older member.

I browsed bungie since 05, made a few accounts, but I came on so rarely that I would always have to make a new account when I had a question with Halo 2.

And still, this account is pretty old as well...

Yo Halo53, I'm real happy for you and I'ma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best bungie.net profiles of all time. OF ALL TIME!

I say starting in October, anyone who's been here for 10 years gets a custom avatar. Then the policy should end in November, while those with custom avatars are grandfathered in.

>_>

GOAT

Old members use old avatars, or at least thats what I've seen.

They also like to use their emblems from games.

Fine. Give only Mythics with Honorable or above the privilege. I do not begrudge them extra abilities based on their trust rating. They have, for the most part, earned it. Oh, and I won't be Mythic any time soon, so I assure you that there is no benefit for me.

Being mythic = Join Date + Trust Rating. More join date than trust rating, so I wouldn't think so.

Pointless idea. Anyone who has been here long enough to be considered an old member shouldn't be changing their avatar, and those who would make use of such a feature are bad people and we shouldn't be catering to them anyway.
Do you have a Batman pager set for avatar threads?
Maybe.

Why can't we put Bungie Cards here?

We've talked about title-related avatars before, but we haven't heard anything from the webteam on it. It would be cool though.

I think we should avoid adding any actual incentives to getting a title as they will become even more of a goal rather than a description, if that makes any sense

We're talking about avatars, not titles.

But why shouldn't you be rewarded for your support?
The only reason I simply say put a restriction on it is because of the trolls that would abuse it.

*Ahem* Moving on, I'm saying I don't understand the new idea, not the old. I'd like clarification on your new idea.

NOW it finally clicks. When you said 'avatar mod' I was thinking of you trying to designate someone to be an avatar moderator, which didn't make any sense to me. (However, if there's a position for it count me in).

So, my real question why would you want an avatar mod in place when you switch avatars? Is it for indecisive people, or is there some other reason behind it?

Select a bunch of members, in a process much like selecting ninjas, to have the ability to approve/deny avatar requests.

Meaning if someone wants to upload their own avatar, it first has to be approved by an 'avatar moderator'.

Obviously give these new 'mods' a title in reward for taking on the responsibility.

.

"Happiness is like glass, you might not always notice it but if you change your view and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light."

Here's my two cents on a system. Users will be available to earn points to spend on avatars in a shop. Each title upgrade will grant points so that it rewards people who stay on for just a few months. The avatars would cost the same so little elitism would occur. Just my rough quick idea. Probably a bunch of flaws and it's too impractical.
