Looks like the era of carpet bans is upon us. I have seen more carpet bans in the past few days than ever before. My bet is that on Bungie.next there will be a "ban everyone" button on threads.

Oh I have no doubt that we will see the moderation team cracking down on stupid people. I look forward to it.

I haven't seen any. Are you talking about the Flood? (Oh, and they aren't carpet bans. The mods "carefully consider each and every ban and take things such as vulgarity, ban history, and personal vendetta into account." From where did I get that quote? Not a reliable source, I can tell you that.)

I was the first Spartan. And I will be the last. Mythic on 9/1/2012 never forget
PAX 08, Third Team against Luke and Shishka, AR dual to
the Death, won by one point... Assembly hasn't changed.

urk: "This is a bad idea."
DeeJ: "Hold still..."

Is it bad though? Aren't 99.99% of carpet bans completely legitimized?

And don't think 1, 2, or even 5 mean anything. Look at how many thread are created daily alone...Its nothing.

Key

Don't post in obvious or potential spam.

If you do, and get banned, quit whining. I don't see why carpet bans are seen as such a bad thing. It's just as much of a rule violation as avoiding the profanity filter, though admittedly takes much less effort.

I really wish people would stop acting like it's a huge deal. It has happened before, and will happen again, and threads are not necessary every time it does happen.

Okay. If you post in a thread with that sort of title, you should be ready to get banned.

I think everyone in that thread got 2 weeks.

This is a bad thing why?
It's a glorious thing. More people need to be held accountable for their actions.

Accountable? Yes. But it's still important to be fair.

And that's why ban histories exist.

It's because people sadly do not learn their lessons or think before they post. Carpet bans wouldn't even be needed if people just made better choices right?

The era of carpet bans? I've seen a few happen, but calling it an era is an overstatement and this isn't an indication of the future. The moderation process doesn't leave room for a "ban everyone" button, so I bet your bet is wrong.

Halo 3 is the best Halo ever
Maps I like: Turf, Avalanche, Pylon, Sandbox, Breakpoint and many more.

There is no "era". Just a spike in the ammount of trolls. If I remember correctly something similiar happened in 2009 causing carpet bans. In a few weeks you won't notice it because it will become the norm around here.

Not even that. Just large amounts of members not understanding the concept of keeping their noses out of -blue!-, whether that's forum copping spam threads, or senselessly posting in them.
People aren't learning from what's been a consistent occurrence, so it just seems like Ninjas are cracking down again.
There's no era of carpet bans, there's just a lot of members who are about to learn the repercussions of being stupid.

Nobody reads the rules anymore. Although I admit, when I first joined I couldn't care less about the rules. Then I got banned :D

Carpet bans are good.

They tend to be given out only for the most obvious spam, thus if you post there you are breaking the rules.
