Halo 2 guns were fine (not "Crap"). I agree though, that the AR was the only futuristic looking weapon.

Ya but it's for multiplayer as well, if the whole Halo situation came to be "real" this year we would have effective guns. Whats to stop MC from picking up a m60 and useing it like a BR? But i guess they knida make things even - I have no problems with the looks of weapons there fine.

i think the humans would have developed sum type of laser weapons by now they are pretty advanced space travel etc

even a weak human energy weapon would do fine

i understand why you care but if theres an oncoming wave of elites and grunts would u rather have a pretty pink rifle with a pretty bow that shot bubbles
or an ugly as heck black rifle that shot armor piercing rounds?

I got his sarcasm...one person has to implement sarcasm and then you get a pile of terrorist chipmunks crashing your party, not fun at all..

No by 2552, energy weapons seem to be a bad choice(Obviously it just does not seem logical for the UNSC to design and operate these for some reason). the guns are semi futuristic(its the small things that count) try looking closer at the guns in Halo 2. The weapons that rely on combustion have been refined well. The projectiles are definitely faster and harder without over heating the weapons. The SMG is caseless. Bungie wanted the game to be as realistic as possible. And so they didn't go too far with th technology aspect. The "future" for the UNSC right now (armamently<Is that even a word?> speaking) are magnetically accelerated weapons. At first only ships and MAC platforms could operate these weapons, as the energy required to use them is immense. A breakthrough with this is the Gauss cannon. That said, there may be handheld MAC-based weapons in Halo 3. Also consider this, by the late 23rd-24th century. Things are beggining to pickup. The Nations are United as one-effectively stopping "Real" full-scale wars. Today modern nations still threaten(or seem to threaten) other nations and their investments. This keeps the weapons being developed and perfected. in 2552 all thats left are rebel insurgencies...like Al-Qaeda and other terrorist/rebel groups of today(they cause trouble, but nothing that should concern full scale bombardment, nuclear attack or the invasion of 1st or 2nd world countries. The government budget therefore isn't that great with the military. Enough ships to control piracy, and the big one... The SPARTAN II project to ensure a safe stable future. Thing here is, thats still not that much money going into the UNSC- and for good reason...there is no enemy to fight. Money instead is spent on colonisation, better personal technologies ie smaller iPod's with bigger capacity you get the picture. (bviously this isn't government funded, but if the consumer seem to be concentrating on things like this more money will be going into these stuff... and more smart people who should be helping the UNSC design weapons, ships etc are caught up in this stuff. Ultimately the UNSC was caught unaware by the Covenant, only then did they start picking up on making technology. At that point we still use relatively primative weapons. So by 2552(Halo 2) the weapons aren't as advanced as they would be if weapons technologies were accelerating like they were today.

1) Please use grammar, im begging you. Its hard to read that much text when it is a huge run-on sentance.

2) Energy weapons, although powerful, are a very bad idea. WE have already experimented with plasma weaponry. Ever heard of the flame thrower? Yes, fire is a plasma, and it is a rather unpredictable one at that.

The thing is we really dont need energy weapons. They wouldnt provide any advantages or disadvantages in effectiveness compared to todays weaponry. Today, we are also developing less lethal weapons and more weapons to incapacitate the enemy. Why kill them when you can just knock them out or blind them for a few seconds?

Another thing we are experimenting with is a real life MAC gun, or also known as a Railgun. It uses electromagnets to shoot a piece of super-dence metal so fast no tank could take a hit from it, not even some bunkers. I say that we are more likely to have a world much more like the Halo Universe than the Star Trek one, unfortunately.

no they shouldnt.....lets use logic for a minute then we can all return to our stupidity cocoons......things have been getting smaller and better example (ipods, warships, computers, and even some wepons) so shouldnt the guns in this be smaller too

see my "logic" didnt even think of that but i have another point didnt americas military use to love large caliber rounds? then with the addition of the M16 they began to accept smaller caliber rounds which were generally fired by smaller guns

1) Its a game
2) The Chief can handle a bigger gun than the marines
3) More firepower is necessary
4) Big guns are better
5) You're a tool

What covert mission did you see in Halo? You must have been playing a different game.

All modern wepons are designed not to kill, the main reason for this is that if an enemy is wounded, his/her team mates are concentrating on helping him and not shooting you, giving you the advantage.

When it comes to halo though, i like the human wepons they feel a lot more high impact, and i dred the thought of a futuristic shotgun.
