I don't know why, but Halo 2 didn't really feel as cool as Halo CE. It just didn't have the freedom you had in CE, driving through huge Forerunner stuctures.

The Halo 2 missions were pretty straight-forward, but in Halo CE there was a bit of adventuring required. I loved levels like Assult on the Control Room or The Silent Cartographer, where there was so much adventuring and playing around, but in Halo 2 there wasn't much freedom... like I've said.

I think Halo 3 should be more like Halo CE. More adventuring and less being told where to go and what to do. And bring back the giant Forerunner tunnels and stuff.

And if I'm much mistaken, I believe that Halo 3 won't actually be set on Halo?! Without Halo, Halo isn't... Halo. Cough. Forerunner structures, large driving levels, FREEDOM! I WANT FREEDOM!

Bungie BETTER read this...

More adventuring. Good. You're spot on. Big epic-feeling levels like the first game had.

I wouldn't say set it on a halo again though.

Well, the trailer shows a giant forerunner facility, so i think you will still get your forerunner tunnels.

Remember what they said. Everywhere you see in the trailer is accessible.

And that is exactly why you will never be a Game or Mission designer. If you ever wanted to be.

The Halo 2 missions were pretty straight-forward, but in Halo CE there was a bit of adventuring required.
I've had this same sort of experience. I used to wander around for hours trying to find where to go in Halo 1 the first few times i played it. But after that i began to learn the map layout so it wasn't a problem.

Halo 2 is obviously made by the same people with the same thought process for creating maps. And you learn that same sort of patern. So after playing Halo 1 a lot, you found your way easier in Halo 2.

but in Halo 2 there wasn't much freedom... like I've said.
If anything, there was more freedom in Halo 2. How many levels could you use a tank in halo 1? any tank? 1. How many in Halo 2? 4. You also have a greater number of weapons to choose from. And dual weilding you can mix and match (almost) any way you please.

Also, have you been to sites like High Impacth Halo? They prove that if there is a place you want to get to in either halo game, you can get to it somehow.
Bungie also gave us things like the Sputnik skull, that aided in blowing things up and getting where you want. It was much more difficult in Halo 1 to do similar launches.

I think Halo 3 should be more like Halo CE.
What? No Live. Overpowered, 'wolf-in-sheep's-clothing' weapons? Quite frankly, illogical environments: sheer rock faces on multiple plateau? end game sequences that exist in areas that couldn't possibly exist (a hanger [supposedly] at the back of the ship where the engines are)? c'mon, your nostalgia is clouding your judgement.

More adventuring and less being told where to go and what to do.
Really, why stop there? Why not do away with missions all together? Just have a big, full ring world to explore! Doesn't need structure.
Seriously, you need to be told what to do otherwise you just wander around shooting stuff with no purpose. Don't you remember the nav points of Halo 1? Cortana would tell you exactly where to go with them in some areas, like 'Reunion Tour,' if you just adventured around for abit.

And bring back the giant Forerunner tunnels and stuff.
Didn't you see the trailer? That freakin' forerunner structure was 10 miles wide! That giant enough for you?

And if I'm much mistaken, I believe that Halo 3 won't actually be set on Halo?!
You are much mistaken. If i'm not mistaken. In the trailer we only saw the chief and cortana. Has it been that long since you've played Halo 2 that you've forgotten the most contraversal character? The Arbiter? Last time we saw him, he was firmly on instalation 05. A.K.A. Halo. I don't think Bungie are just going to magic him away from Halo and put him somewhere else.

Without Halo, Halo isn't... Halo.
Well duh. A creame pie isn't a creame pie without creame.

Cough.
Are you coming down with something?

Forerunner structures, large driving levels, FREEDOM! I WANT FREEDOM!
Forerunner structures? *looks at trailer* check.
Large driving levels? *looks at trailer* If i have to walk my spartan ass all the way around that big ol' level i wll be P.Oed. So, check.
Freedom? 13 miles+ of geometry to explore in one level? i'd give that a check.

Bungie BETTER read this...Or what? You won't buy their game? You'd be doing more harm to yourself than them if you did that. Will you shoot them? Then they'll never get the chance to read it will they?

Maybe this post will come off as rude. But, i think you deserve it. There are no hard and fast rules like 'Halo 3 should be more like Halo 1 or 2.' They are both flawed games in some respect.

Except maybe, Halo 3 should bemore like Halo 3.

You can argue as much as you want. The fact is for many many people, the campaign felt much better in 1.

I think he meant that the game was set on Earth because Halo was destroyed and then the Covies invaded.

What the lad means by less freedom in Halo 2 was there was only one way to reach your objectives and stuff. Although Halo 2 had more, and longer levels with more vehicles, it was still a glorified long tunnel with no side passages, no ways to sneak past or flank your enemies, and no ways to even walk around a large rock from the other side.

i swear to god if i have to step on another ring again, i'll drive my warthog to Bungie's offices and blow them up.

I think you may want to edit that.

Amen. Oh, and of course Halo 2 had more options as far as new vehicles and weapons and dual-weilding... and it STILL wasn't as much fun as Halo 1.

I just want that epic feel. A massive battle that is reminiscent of the levels in Halo1. Those enclosed spaces of Halo 2 made me scared.......

Dear Bungie,

You don't have to send someone endless whordes of enemies in a small space to make the action feel frenetic. That's just space invaders on the ground. Send the teeming masses at me on a map that is HUGE. I need freedom, and not just the kind afforded me by going commando. I want room to run, and shoot!

Sincerely,

AJaflame

In Halo I got that feel I get with good games. I felt like I was actually doing something important. Halo 2 felt like just another game.

I actually enjoyed H2's campaign much more than Halo 1. While Halo 2 had a low point that sucked much worse than Halo 1's low point ("The Library" v. "Oracle" and all the boss fights), I felt that Halo 2's levels as a whole were much better than H1's. I played through "Cairo", "Outskirts", Metropolis, "Delta Halo", "Regret", "Gravemind", and "The Great Journey" dozens of times, wheras the only mission in H1 that I played anywhere near that many times is "Assault on the Control Room."

Granted, this is all pure opinion, but I also felt that Halo 2's story was better, as well. I even like the Arbiter (heresy!, I can hear you scream), as he was actually a three-dimensional character, whearas the Master Chief is Strong, Silent Type Hero #45835 with a fancy-smancy suit. If character development was a class in school, the MC would get an F.

See, I think the problem is that too many people went into H2 expecting H1 with prettier graphics. This created a closed mindest, and when H2 turned out to not be H1, the metaphorical -blam!- hit the fan. Whereas, I've noticed that those that started playing not expecting the same game tended to enjoy it much more.

yeah................

No, because I didn't like those levels as much. I really don't care if you argue with me. Those are my opinions, and what you say won't change them, as much as my opinions won't change yours. Although you might want to do better than that.

  • 06.22.2006 7:53 AM PDT

Ah, so many good levels. The way the campaign progresses is so immersive, so cinematic.

those are the best levels in the game :/

Again, that's your opinion. And anyway, even if I did play those levels again and again (except for the Library. B-r-r-r-r-r), it would still come out to less levels that I really liked than in H2. So your point is moot anyway.

Understand that I didn't hate the levels in H1. Except for the Library, I felt that they were all strong, very fun levels. However, I never got an urge to replay them, like I did in most of Halo 2's levels.
