It will most likely be both, but the 360's native resolution is 720p, plus that displays slightly better than 1080i because it is progressive and not interlaced.

No, the resolution is only better when it matches the TV, and weather it is progressive scan or interlaced. Interlaced doesnt looks quite as good as progressive. 720p is progressive and 1080i is interlaced (see how it works with the p and i?)

720p is the highest quality. 1080i=540p (unless it's paused) 720p>540p

1080i is better than 720p if the image is mostly still on the screen. It is higher resolution but cant handle a lot of things moving on the screen.

This is why Discovery HD is 1080i, but most other HD stations are 720p

For video games, 720p is the best choice.

its not a better picture if only half the screen is getting updated at a time. You don't notice when things are still, but when they move it is no good.

Someone correct me if this is completely wrong:

Progressive scan updates the whole screen at once.
Interlaced updates even lines and then does the odd ones.

A normal TV is 480i. There is something called EDTV (much cheaper than HDTV) which displays 480p. Same resolution, but a big increase in image quality.

Now what we need is 1080p. It's expensive, but badass.

All 360 games are compatible in 1080i and 720p,along with 480p.But,I personally don't care about HD,it looks nice and is very clear, but some people, like me,are not filthy rich.So I don't really care about H3 in HD,I'll stick with my old standard TV.

Will 360 ever have an update and show 1080p?
