Hello Everyone!

Check out the new Halo Movie @

Today isn't just any normal day, its the day I take a stand for competitive gamers, and talk about what made Halo the best for 10 years or 9, or was it 8??

Do you remember your first experience playing Halo Combat Evolved? Sitting in front of the T.V for countless hours after hearing all the HYPE and acting on it! WOW, what an experience. What made it so amazing, was it the fact you could float like a spaceman? That you could drive vehicles? Three shot your best friend with a pistol from a far range, or that you could hearl grenades incredibly long distances and stick your buddies? I can go on and on, it had everything: epic music and sound fx, long amazing campaign maps and and challenging multiplayer. It revolutionized First Person Shooters like Goldeneye did on the N64, but a step further. It was the new Goldeneye, it had the new feel, the spark the amazing touch that made you wake up wanting to play again.

Then, when you had played countless hours and had become satisfied, you were longing for the next big thing. Xbox Live!! Wow, now I can beat down strangers?? and talk to them while I do it?? That just made it 100% better. Other games came out, but Halo 2 was the Best Online game ever, and everyone was talking about it, sadly some people dropped out of school to play it, but they didn't think it was all that bad of an idea. What an improvement, from Halo Combat Evolved, it was and still is such an amazing game that people are still playing on private servers right now as I speak.

I loved how there were secrets in it, what a great idea. I remember seeing someone with a rocket and sword fiddling back and forth pressing Y, R, Y, R, Y,R until they launched toward me from across the map. I was like What??? No way he just did that. I said there got to be a way to do that without as much effort, so I started up a custom game with me and my splitscreen guest. I started fiddling with it and before I knew it I had figured out the timing. 1,2,3 Y, X, R. Adding the "x" button to the equation seemed mathematical to me, and it worked. Every single time I had locked on red with the enemy, while holding a rocket and sword, or a needler and sword, or a sniper and sword, I would beam across the map and slay the enemy. I also found that while you were flying toward them you could contnue to press the jump button and it would raise you even higher so that when you reached the enemy you had the option to shoot a missle from above. And if you pressed the jump button again once you reached the enemy you would fly passed him. Look at all the options I thought, Wow! Before I knew it I was using the "glitch" (secret) to fly to parts of the map that the average player couldn't. This secret was later taken out of the game because people complained, but it was awesome, and what made it cool was how you had to figure it out.

They later incresed the strength of the beat down in the 1st big update and added another secret. Y, X, R. It was the quick shot after the beat, and it made BR users fearless who were good at it, even against the sword or shotty. What a skill it was you had to press a three button combination to do it?! That's unheard of but it was awesome. Then they had X,X R it was a double shot that you could use to beat a 4 shot pro with. What a skillfull move that was, and the players who learned had the right to use it.

Now this was competitive gaming. The secrets made the gamers love the game so much more, because there was always something new to share or hear about online. This was Halo's best marketing srategy whether or not the makers knew it. The idea that some skill could be obtained that could be kept secret, that oould give the player an upperhand and the ability to DOMINATE Noobs, was powerful to say the least.

The game had options, so many options. You could dual drop your duel wield weapon when a plasma blast was coming for you and if you timed it right you would block the shot with the dropped weapon and make the shooter go WHAT!!? How did HE?? I mean that is awesome. You Could duel wield shoot consistent with the gun in the left and and the BXR the guy with the right hand when you got close enough. There were SO many options. Running around corners, radar watching, and surprize attack over the enemy resulting in amazing assasinations. Dodging left and right and ducking while blasting the BR. So many options, driving ghosts, warthogs, flag wackinging, bomb smacking. This game was over the top, Locked on rockets, and people did know how to Dodge them. This was competitive gaming.

Some secrets needed to be controlled, Super Bouncinc was awesome but it's agreed that it could be a bit difficult to learn right away and frusterating in matchmaking games where your Rank was on the line. I guess you could call stand by a secret, or bridging, but they were annoying and needed to be controlled, so then Came HALO 3. There was pretty much no secrets, and no super jumps, but amazing gameplay regardless. This game expanded on the normal things that everyone could do and removed the secrets as well as the annoying cheats. It was great that you could finally get to lvl 50 without getting stand by-d. Apparantly it still happened but, it was monitored more and mostly fixed.

The problem was removing pretty much all the secrets, there were some, but not nearly enough to create wonder in the gamer. Somehow they still were able to make it competitive as ever. Halo 3 was overall an improvement, better graphics, same gameplay, and pretty much no garbage until people started D ranking. To be honest this was realy bad for marketing because noobies would be up against level 50 pros who would absolutely slaughter the noobs and make them not want to play. Conveniently, Call of Duty was around and many gamers migrated to that because of this. Oh oh the downfall of Halo...

Bungie must have realized things weren't looking good, and they were starting to reach the a downfall. Get it REACH. They needed to pick up sales and compete with the new big shots GEARS of WAR, and CALL OF DUTY. So I believe the uniqueness of Halo was addressed, but in many aspects completely diregarded. The details were being overlooked, what people loved about Halo was being swallowed up. They asked all the gamers what they would do, but they themselves were no longer the gamers. How could they not know??

Halo Reach brought better graphics, better Forge, new abilities, but forgot about the minor details. The feel wasn't an improvement. Now there was a call of duty ranking system, but no Battle Rifles and Carbines, No duel wields, no gadgets. They brought in armor abilities, and animations but slowed down the running speeds, and removed the preffered jumping height. There were no options, anymore. I admit it was a fun game and there were alot of improvements but all in all the minor details were forgotten, and they halo feel disappeared.

What needs to be done for HALO 4:
1) Return to the movment and feel style of Halo 3
2) Bring back Duel Weilding, gadgets, and all previous Halo weapons
3) Return secrets to the game
4) Add more colour, and diversity to Forge Mode
5) Put more detail into maps and make more variety of maps.
6) Add weapon damage to the maps. Destruction of the maps. Damaging doorways or walls or elevators, stairs, shooting out lights etc.
7) Add helmet lights, and dark/ light enviornments for use of it. This could be effective for bettering the Zombies experience
8) Add more map interaction. Switches that open doors, turn off lights, Radio transmission stations that send coordinates for pelicans to drop off vehicles and equipment. I know I'm getting creative, but keys that you obtain and use to open different areas that have storage of weapons and jet packs etc.
9) Animation for things like putting on jet packs or using a key/ keycard to open doors. You do it at your own risk right, for the benefit of what's in the storage, and it would influence teammates to emphasize giving teammates back up in certain areas.

10) Options, armour ability slots. Being able to press one button to switch between evade, and jetpack, or sprint, and armor lock. However if there was armor lock I would revamp it make it a split second move that doges like say one bullet or a punch that you can use twice in a minute yuh know. Take away the noobeeness.

Those are a few suggestions. Light it up people and give some more. We got to make sure those minor details are counted for.

It's important for there to be alot of options for gamers, so yea tell me what you think people, voice your opinion.

I agree, especially with item number 8. I always enjoyed map interactions and felt like Reach took a step backwards in that respect. These wishlist items are probably targetting the wrong audience and would have been better suited over at 343 several months ago.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

The stuff that wasn't too long to read sounded cool.
I also agree with some of those things you would want added.

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

Long story short?

A competitive wannabe bragging about how he loved to take advantage of glitches, and calls it competitive.

Halo multiplayer sucks!

Based on campaigns

Halo 2 > Halo 3 ODST > Halo 3 > Reach/CE tied

All I read was 'blah blah I'm a wannabe competetive kid blah blah I'm following the cool crowd and ranting about the Halo 2 and 3 glory days blah blah Bungie you should do this.'

Yea, I know. I guess I failed to convey my point. I'm thinking halo only has been the best for about 8 years. Reach was good but wasn't a great enough increase in awesomeness in my opinion. So although it's about 11 years of halo, I think only 8 years were balling. I just hope Halo 4 is going to be the awesomeness I was hoping for.

"A competitive wannabe bragging about how he loved to take advantage of glitches, and calls it competitive."

Hey, man come on that wasn't called for. Why are people soo mean, whhaaaaaaaAAAAAA!!!

Well these glitches, looked like glitches, felt like glitches, but they were seriously special moves. The only thing I would change about them, is make them actual special moves not to be confused with glitches, and add better animations to them.

Like a B,X,R can be easy after you learn it, but it makes for a more interesting style of gameplay. Could be just me, but I think some people will agree.

Imagine if they brought back the rocket sword move, but it was an actual charge up dash across the map with a cool animation. Imagine the armor lock blue charge look, but it would leave a shadow of speed behind it as the player lunged. And give the defender some options you know. Like evade, or a reversal to block the strike. I'm just saying it's time to start thinking up new stuff, the same old same old is getting boring. If developers added more options for fighting it would make it more competitive. I've played Halo since halo combat evolved up until Halo Reach. I'm not saying I'm pro, but I always like a challenge and a competitive match up.

God Bless!

I intend to live forever, or die trying,

so far, so good.

Very nice read.

Agree with pretty much everything, but the secrets in Halo 2 deserved to be removed. I used them, and belive Halo 3, was the best game in the Halo Series for Multi-player, as it was Halo 2 improved.

The only problem, was duel-weilding in Halo 3, the weapons did 30% less damge, not everyone knows that, but is why Halo 3 Dual-Weilding sucked.
