Subject: Why does it seem didact hates humans?

I am alpha, i am omega.

I am the last of the primes.

First let me say i think it is Didact who will be the main bad guy in halo 4, At the end of the halo 4 e3 trailer he say's "he dreamed about this day" and lately we know that Didact has been napping at requiem. So I'm fairly sure it's him.

Anyway he said he was mistaken to break the human empire back in the day, and he felt sorry or some -blam!- like that, because the flood had forced the humans into taking over worlds.

Yet now without his girlfriend (librarian) to satisfy his male needs every day, he's gone into a sissy fit and now has some ancient galaxy beef with the humans and Master chief.

So basicly why has he gone from being sorry to being a total jerk?
Also please mind my informal way of writting this, it just gets boring to read dull piece's of writting sometimes.

Perhaps he resents humanity because of the Librarian's love for us, a love that caused her to stay in harms way and eventually die. And die by his own actions to make it worse.

He may also have a lingering grudge against humans from their wars. Old habits are hard to break.

Because this is fiction and continuity in attitude and behaviours of characters are often changed and flung around due to seemingly no reason at times.

This is often due to new writers having a poor sense of understanding with the previous materials they are now working with and so create their own identity of previously establish character traits.

It does impacts the canon big time, as behaviour turns into actions that progress into story. But only those who follow old and new understand the differences.

This Didact thing may be explained, it might not. He might just be a total jerk because he misses his wifey the liberian. Meh. No answer for ya buddy.

Maybe at the very heart of Halo. This is about a love story. I guess we just have to wait and see.

Edit- I'm pretty sure it's been establish that he's the baddy.

We should know better, because we are better.

Ur-Didact =/= Didact
Don't know which Didact is in H4, but Ur didn't have the experiences with Chakas and Riser that Bornstellar had.

Terminal in CEA also mentions that the Librarian was the one who calmed Didact down whenever he got mad. With her gone, Didact has lost a stabilizing factor.

"Find where the liar hides, so that I may place my boot between his gums!" - Rtas 'Vadum

Because reasons. It will probably just boil down to the anvilicious "Humans are evil" misanthropy that is just absolutely crammed into 343i's other works.

  • 09.05.2012 7:22 PM PDT

Who says he does? The Covenant? ...they aren't exactly known as the best interpreters of Forerunner writings, haha :P I haven't really seen anything to indicate that either one of the Didacts, the original or Bornstellar, hates humanity and humans. Whether he will be an antagonist or not, I very much doubt that 343i is going to make him the Ancient Evil...as one, he is neither ancient nor evil, and two, when we first heard about the Ancient Evil it was described as a new one. IE someone or something we'd never really heard about in the series at all...the Didact has always been a major player, so he doesn't fit "new" either.

Eh, the "I have long awaited this day, Reclaimer" can have a whole ton of different meanings, like I took, and take, it to mean that he's long been waiting for the day when whatever the Ancient Evil is finally shows itself and start executing whatever it's plans are.

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

I'm just confused as to which Didact this is.

I never read Primordium, but from what I gathered, Bornstellar became the Didact, and he never had any problems with humans. Heck, Chakas and Riser were kind of his only two friends. Did he change in Primordium or what?

Soon to be breaking news:

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

There are 2 Didacts.

The Ur-Didact, the original, and the Bornstellar Didact. We're talking about the original Didact.

Clearly, this was a decided enmity by the Precursors and/or assimilated Precursors.

This might be part of the Precursors coming back to test humanity.

He's certainly not in his right mind. Or is he? Very few people can manage their reason while being angered. They make the wrong choice.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Maybe the Master Builder managed to influence Ur-Didact somehow. I guess you could say Indoctrination, for lack of a better term. Me know that Master Builder is as a-hole as is, maybe he's playing puppet master with Ur's mind.

Very plausible.

The Master Builder did refrain from killing him.

The guy was a supreme commander. You can't just execute high ranking individuals like that.

Options:

-force him to take poison
-force him to retire, relinquish his position, etc.
-force him to fight on the field
-blackmail, bribery, scandal, smear image, threats, assassination, etc. treacherous actions

Personally, I think the Master Builder simply gave the Didact a choice.

Unless he really is an evil bastard. Then he probably resorted to treachery.

I am placing my money on Paragonsky and her whole "Halo mass manufacturing." and then her whole "the moment I die, I let go of this button that will activate my newly built array of Halos." after finding the Greater Ark, because we all know that ONI will obviously find the Greater Ark and manufacture Halo rings like they were rifles.

Why would you set out to murder the very race your wife died to preserve? That would literally make her death pointless.

I think that if anything, that would make him want to protect humanity. He may not care for us, but he'd want to honour his wife's memory and the last thing she did whilst alive (as far as he knows) is save us.

We're her legacy. I don't think he'd be so eager to kill us.

I don't think the Didact we'll see in Halo 4 is the Didact at all, but rather someone posing as him. In the E3 trailer, his symbol was inverted for a reason.

Chakas further confirms it is the Didact Along with the Thursday war. We just don't know which one or the circumstances that lead to what we now know.
