Ok...well the reason everyone got so worked up about this is because it is slightly annoying to have the same thing repeated over...and over...and over. But getting past that, it is completely impossible. The diameter of the Halo (10,000km) vs the diameter of the earth (12,756km) would leave about 2,756 km. Therefore, the Halo would be 1,378km under the earth. It would have been impossible to build it that deep or to put it into the earth that deep because it would have completely destroyed the earth in almost every possible way. You try taking an egg, splitting it in half, putting a large metal band in it and putting it back together with no damage...thats basically the same thing.
