So this is my map of the area around New Mombasa in the year 2552. Iv added the whiteboard pic showing the Ark during the H2 development as "EARTH_ARK_09". Another thing that shows the Ark was ment to be in H2 is in The ark of Halo, on the last page about the Jacklas theres a pic of a Jackal in a room with Forerunner arcitecture, and under the pic it says its take early in the development of Halo 2 and is hot in a dark ally in a earth level. A earth level with Forerunner arvitevture should be, yes the Ark.

And heres my map again, take a look at it and youll see Iv given it some thought. Ofcourse its not 100% accurate.

THE MAP --

cool plan but look at my post "man, the ark and the great rift vally"...i'll think you find that mt kilimanjaro isnt on the screnshotr you should 2nd down, but 3rd down the page, and the ruins are of new mombasa, bungie said it, so your play on the map would be too far away to gave such a good veiw of new mombasa

New Mombasa is a really big city and you can see far in desert inviorment since there are less things in the way. And Voi is about a 150-200 meters higher above sea level then New Mombasa meaning it would be even more possible to be seen from there.

i might be a desert so less trees, but there still hills and mountains, and where kilimanjaro is on the screenshot theres a few low mountains, kilimanjaro is off to the right of the crater, the only mountain with snow, its not spikey but with curved sides, relativly on its own as its on a large plateau with few mnountains around it

How much do we have to consider the curvature of the earth?

the maps the wrong scale for a start, its 250miles between kilimanjaro and mombasa, so you couldnt possibly see the city from that 150miles away, which is about where the ark is, and kilimanjaro is 100 miles away, but it stands over 5000m higher than the surrounding plateau

Awhile ago somebody made a thread and found this on Google Earth. Here it is, with the information they posted.

Using the 3D satellite imagery from Google Earth, along with many clues from Bungie, the trailer, and the H2V2 soundtrack, I think I found the precise geographical location where the trailer is supposed to take place ( 3°10'16.38"S 38° 4'33.22"E ). Here are the clues:

-- Bungie said the mountain behind the Chief is Kilimanjaro
-- They also said that the structures on the far side of the crater are the ruins of New Mombasa, and that the trailer is set many miles inland
-- the H2V2 soundtrack has a track called "Road to Voi". Voi is a small Kenyan trading town about halfway between Mombasa and Kilimanjaro

Using these clues, I examined this general area around Voi in Google Earth, and found one spot that fits the trailer's setting almost exactly. At this location at eye level, two small foothills flank the distant Kilimanjaro the same way they do in the trailer. Also, looking in the opposite direction, one has a clear view of Mombasa. And the space in between the camera and the distant city, where the Ark is buried in the trailer? The pristine wilderness of Tsavo National Park, a place where a giant artifact could definitely go undetected for centuries. Furthermore, at the edge of the location I found, there is some kind of geological seam, which lies in the same place as the sharp drop-off to the crater in the trailer.

If you want to see all this for yourself, the coordinates for the spot are:

3°10'16.38"S 38° 4'33.22"E

The two nearby hills are the two you see to the left and right of Kilimanjaro in the trailer. Kilimanjaro is to the west, Mombasa is to the southeast.

I have updated my map. In the old one I really hadnt concidered the size of a modern metropolis like New York City. So I changed New Mombasa in my map to be in resemblénce with NYC. Now New Mombasa reaches allmost all the way to Voi and the puzzle pieces are falling in place.

The map again: THE MAP
