SURVIVAL MODE

Check out survival mode..Bots could be implemented into that wonderfully. As for the map editor, why are oyu being so -blam!-y?

You know you will have plenty of people to play MM with, and if all of your friends only want to play on their custom maps...and you think that's stupid. PLAY MATCHMAKING.

Don’t get mad if I flame you because you cannot spell, or because my three year old has better grammar and etiquette than you.

Still if they wanted too they could have put the bots and map editor into Halo CE or Halo 2 and they didnt, so why add them now? MS is pushing for everything to be live, why would bungie want to take a step backwards?

Halo PC didn't have a map creator, but Vista does. I think Halo 3 will have a map editor. Step backwards? How so?

How the hell is increasing replayability "going backwards"?

The map editor could be a very good thing if it was used right. Instead of having the usual system for custom maps bungie could make up a completely new system like they did for matchmaking. One way they could do this would be for players to create their own maps and then when they are finished with them the maps are automatically sent to bungie qwhere they are approved and checked for redundancy,. This will also increase the amount of maps available and would not have the ong loading time. They could be released in updates. This way they can be used in matchmaking as well as custom games since everyoe has the map. It would also be a great sense of pride to the player that created the map because now everyone is using their custom map. This could greatly benefit the Halo 3 experience and is also a truce between those who are for and agaianst it.

Maybe Bungie will make an update containes a terrible flaw and causes you xbox to explode leaving nothing but a black outline where it used to be.

Shhhhhh. That one is still in development.

I hear the best it can manage right now is a small fire. Exploding hardware may sound easy, but they're really hard to code.

Don't click

I disagree entirely

As for the bots, not everyone has xbox live.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Couldn't have said it better myself.

G I never thought of that
*sarcasm*
I cant where I live. No DSL or cable, just realy fat internet, and very slow ping.

Just because there's a map editor or bots, doesn't mean Bungie isn't interested in rooting out cheaters. That's not even up for debate and your lack of faith shows your ignorance. Do you really think that the people with the banhammer will suddenly go lax if we have a map editor?

You obviously don't know much about online gaming. Tons of games with map editor work just fine, all you need to do is DL the map from a host or one of the people in the pre-game lobby before you play on said map. Depending on the host, this could take a few minutes, after that you'll have the map on your hard drive indefinitely. After a little while(weeks tops) the most popular custom maps would have been DL'ed so many times that it wouldn't even be an issue. And if there is a matchmaking in Halo 3, they aren't going to have user created maps.

Secondly, you're post didn't make it clear why bots are so bad. First you listed their uses, then you basically said that everyone else is wrong for wanting them. Bots are an important part of the online experience, and I can name a few instances in which I would have needed one in Halo 2.

Not everyone is as lucky as you. Some people can't afford high speed internet connection, and catering to the people that do will not help live at all. Infact, bots would help keep people with bad latency out of our hair and playing by themselves. Besides, cutting out bots isn't going to some how improve Xbox Live security and you speak as though cutting out any decent features would instantly improve the game; as if bungie has a finite and limited amount of work effort. Why not help people out and create bots?

Your's are probably some of the worst statements I have heard on this board in a long time. I doubt you are as old as you say you are and you threw in that little tidbit to validate your vaunted and stoic opinions. What's sad is that you wrote your post with some spelling and grammar, so people will not only heed your words, but they will be able to read them.

I think map editor is cool.. I would love making my own map with hidden entrances and sniping points then inviting people to my house to play it.. you could create your dream arena for every match type. But as for being able to play online with your map i dont know if it would be cool only if you could do it in custom games i guess.. But serious map editor isnt a bad idea if you get enough freedom to control almost everything such as ambience, time, brightness and what not. As for bots the first time i played them was in perfect dark for the N64, my cousins and I were hooked for hours putting the bots on "dark" (which is the hardest they go) and trying to all hide in a room desperatly trying to survive.

I would go for map editor instead of bots... But both would be awesome if done correctly.

I think both bots and the map editor would be a good idea, I have so many ideas for some cool maps that if I have room like O lets say containment, I could make a very cool map. Bots would be good for practice or for those that would not have High speed internet, also adding them at certain locations in the custom maps could turn it into a Campaign style gameplay. I agree that some people will make stupid maps with a few hills for warthog races and such, and some peolpe could get bored of mowing down bot after bot, but its not like you would have to use those features once you got the game. If memory serves me, Bungie said that they would also have a movie maker feature also, think about how many sweet Halo 3 movies could be made using custom maps or even bots as enemies for that matter. Putting them in the game will make everyone happy, those that dont wish to use wont have to and those that do (me) could. Just my ideas

  • 06.23.2006 2:33 AM PDT

Personally, I would be happy without a map editor or bots.

Whilst I agree with the bots, I do think there should be a map editor. The 360 will have enough power to give us the tools for some serious map power and modelling akin to the unreal editor, and should come up with some really professional maps, and you're right, they wouldn't be able to use for ranked online games. But not everyone wants to be ranked. And not everyone would play them online. I dont have XBL, but i do play with three of my friends on the xbox, on halo 2, and the one thing i feel is that there should be more maps, as it just gets boring after a while, even on XBL, unless you're seriously hardcore, which I'm not. So the bottom line is, no bots, but allow us some serious map making ability.
~edit~ And reading up tweo posts inspires mer... maybe bots would be pretty cool, but only in the sense of a full campaign editor... of course I'm way over my head here, but wouldn't that rock? Still, no to bots in multiplayer, it would just waste bungie's time.

Although I mostly agree with the original post, I would like to say a couple of things in defence of bots and map editors.

Firstly, for comments that suggest it would consume man-power, this is Microsoft we're talking about here. If they thought they could shift another 100,000 units by including bots or a map editor, they'd just hire the staff to do it becuase they would cost a tiny percentage of the potential profit. So I do not think time and man-power is a justified enough argument.

Secondly, regarding the map editor being problematic on custom games - why not just have a system where you rate a map out of 10. If you make it so each person can only rate each map once, the map's with 4000 ratings and a score of 8.7 are going to be worth downloading - those without, aren't. Simple.

You would soon sort the wheat from the chaff.

Of course there are other variables that make these inclusions problematic.

One problem I DO have, is with those who are suggesting people without broadband should just 'move' or 'get a good connection' in order to enjoy MP. Selfishness and arrogance doesn't cover how juvenile that comment is.

One thing that really makes me feel a bit sick, is the fact that the 360 is so 'live-centric'. The real problem I had with Halo 2 is that is discarded the single player mode in favour of the live experience, when it was the SP in Halo CE that really made me fall for the game (figuratively speaking ;).

I can't help but feel that Halo 3 is going the same way - if not MORE so. Microsoft will want to push the online thing to the MAX, so I can easily see Bungie getting swept up with that instead of giving those who don't want to play multplayer, an enjoyable, lengthy and satisfying one player game.

I find that incredibly sad.

Anyway, rant over. Thoughts?

Don’t get mad if I flame you because you cannot spell, or because my three year old has better grammar and etiquette than you.

Bungie is all about the story, II dont think they will sacrifice anything from the campaign to make MP better, I mean they have novels, graphic novels, a movie and toys and everything else to deal with so the story needs to be that good to push the merch, people are not going to want thoes things cause of a good MP game. Just a loose thought anyhow.

As for your comment (DocRobotnik)

I dont know if you mean my comment is sad or if thier cries are, so I am going to guess, or even worse assume (yeah yeah I know what they say about that) that it was directed at my saying that.

Well I can tell you I have moved to a different area to get a better connection, I had adelphia at our old place, when time warner bought them and started to upgrade my speed was cut in half and was very intermitent and problematic, so I switched to DSL, but I had HUGE latency issues with DSL, so after talking about it with the wife, we decided to move the family. Yes I am a married 29 year old with three kids. My wife is 24 and my oldest boy is 3, so moving was a pain in the butt. BUT I DID IT.

I didnt sit around crying saying well now I am screwed cause my connection sucks and I cannot play Halo online anymore, maybe I should sit around crying for bots to fill my lonely existance.

F THAT!

I moved and improved my situation.

IT IS SELFISH TO THINK SOMEONE WOULD CATER TO YOUR NEEDS, especially when its a very VERY small percentage of the population of gamers.

If you dont like it and want bots go buy PDZ or Time Slitters2 or 3.

As for the map editor ideas, yeah they COULD make something work, but my arguement is that I would rather have more Bungie made maps than a map editor, thats all. I just think having too many maps on XBL would stink vs having Bungie make a lot of great ones instead.

That's just my two cents anyhow.

Ok, to be honest I dont give a -blam!- about the map maker, if Bungie puts customizable stuff in the maps that come with the game like time of day/weather then these maps will be VERY replayable.

However bots are a necessity. Almost everyone I play Halo with doesn't have Xbox Live and aren't planning on getting it and they all say that they wish there were bots in Halo. Whether you like it or not bots increase the replayability of the game since you can play with both bots and real ppl so it makes it much more enjoyable.

Too bad your two cents are worthless...

I can see you are very intelligent, what a come back, did you think that one up all by yourself?

I haven’t ever heard an ingenious comeback like that ever before.

Too bad you cannot actually contribute or post your own two cents, I guess its cause you don’t have any. It must really suck to be broke.

erm

simply put
yes to bots ( on survivor mode)
no to map editor ( long loading times... and makes a simple fun game hecktick and annoying- as much as i would love to make a map devoted to warthog jumps, im sure not everyone is)
