Subject: Why is Halo waypoint so hated by B-net?

Pretty sure I'm a thread killer...

Since I actually go there, a lot of the criticism in here is flat out wrong. You can't go a single page without someone complaining about something. And many of those threads aren't even locked, some (the recent -blam!-ing about no flag dropping) has gotten up to 20 pages. (It's just a stupid cyclical argument as always though)
The one's that are locked are the "you're all idiots, halo will suck" threads. There's a clear divide between the..."legitimate" ones, and the limited* ones.
(*That's a 343i censor for retarded)

I don't hate it that much, but I think this one time I got a small little detail wrong about something I was commenting on, and a user said to me: "Oh, don't worry, with your post count I wouldn't expect you to know anything about Halo."

Which pissed me off to no end.

Though, that still isn't as bad as the "My K/D is Higher than Yours" argument.

Actually, yes it is. When multiplayer is discussed, k/d is highly relevant. Post count on a select forum, however, is not.
In multiplayer, yes. But in regards to story, it's annoying as hell.

I was banned on Waypoint because I was expressing my opinion on what 343i has been doing to Halo: Reach a while back.

Never went back again. I found out the hard way that they ban you if your opinion doesn't involve praising 343i.

We are determined that before the sun sets on this terrible struggle our flag will be recognized throughout the world as a symbol of freedom on the one hand and of overwhelming force on the other.

The moderators suppress your opinions on Halo 4, that's if they're negative. Free Speech, for the most part, doesn't exist there like it does here.

We have been, and forever will be the one true Halo site, superior in every way.

so you are insulting me for liking what 343i is doing with Halo? I find that very interesting.

lol I just got banned for jokingly saying "OBAMA 2012!".

Make a spam post here: get a warning.

Make a spam post there: get month long ban.

Mods are a bit biased as well, If you see two people, one blindly hating the game and insulting those that support it, and one blindly supporting the game and insulting those that hate it. Only one of them will receive any sort of ban.

I'm yet to be banned btw.

I've noticed that a little as well. There was a poster a few months back, name was something E0S, he was the textbook definition of a "rabid fanboy". It took him awhile to get banned, and he was in every single thread.

Props to the mods for finally banning him.

Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

Having read all of this, I seem to notice an almost constant trend to compare their site/forums/moderation/community to ours.

Why?

They are a different company, run by different people, and who are attempting to make a community that they want to come to their site.

I don't see how/why they should attempt (or any visitor should expect) any other site on the Internet to be Bungie.Net 2.0.

Can someone please explain why this appears to be the case for those who are unhappy with their experiences there? I know that there are thousands of people who are unhappy with their experiences here (I have the PM's to prove it) and I would assume that most of that disappointment stems from them expecting this place to be "just like this other site I visit and like".

It has less to do with it not being Bnet and with it having one of the worst forum layouts I've ever seen along with an extremely inconsistent moderating team.

I've seen two people both throwing some pretty violent insults at each other, but only one of them was banned. It's irritating too, because you don't know what you're banned for.

well, you could suck it up and follow the rules the first time or just shut up and stop talking about it.

I like how the flood thinks that they are superior to us when they are just a sub-forum on B.net hating on a forum comprised completely of Halo and only Halo.

This is what I'd say I have the biggest problem with. I can deal with strict moderators, but when you are too strict on one side of the community and practically let the other side run free and do whatever they want...

It's probably just the natural consequences of choosing moderators from a primarily young (I don't just mean this in the age sense) community. The people that are likely going to be looked at for moderator positions are the dedicated community members, and dedication can sometimes be confused with fanboyism.

  • 09.09.2012 2:36 PM PDT

The flood and the ninjas don't share much respect for one another. Its almost as it its two teams. Some Floodians don't get that when they move to other forums, and get them selves banned, trying to be smart arses. On the forums I go on, like BZPower, the mods and members try hard to work together to make a better community. I actually friends with a mod on there. Friends don't really exists on B.net

I expect no one will read or agree with this comment, but what ever.

Extremely bias moderation. The site layout is clunky and takes 4 hours to load a single page. The majority of users are ignorant loudmouths with superiority complexes. It is one of the worst forums I have ever frequented.

The mods ride a fine line of banning people with opinions that they think are trolls, the community is literally the stupidest I've ever been on, being nearly filled with children who are think they are right and everyone else is stupid, and it's slow as hell. That's why.

It's not just not like Bnet, it's not like any forum I've been on. The moderation as someone else said is extremely inconsistent, you never know if you'll be banned because it depends on which mod reads your post and if he finds it worth banning. This most likely has to do with it being a new community, which has not had time to settle down and have that line between what you can and cannot do created.

In general most of the posts are either dreadfully misinformed or intolerant of other's opinions, leading me to believe that the majority of the people there are quite young. I do still go on the site and sometimes post, but it's mostly just to get new info.

No hate from me. I know that they've got a growing, diverse and very opinionated community. I wish their community manager and their moderators the best of luck in keeping their site a fun, welcoming and interesting place to visit.
oh look a mod who doesnt hate us. i'm surprised .

HI RECON!

Howdy.

I don't see any reason why and I have not personally witnessed any animosity from my fellow ninja either. Though that is limited to my personal experience. If there is a ninja with a hate hardon, I don't know about it.

Managing a community and its forums is not an easy task and is pretty thankless. I give kudos and mad props to anyone who does it out of love for their respective community.
Thanks for the moderation!

I'm not sure. Alot of the people on this forum look like they'd fit in perfectly with the Halo fanboys on waypoint.
