Subject: Can the mods please not let this happen again? (Concluded)

My thanks to the moderators. With that said, this thread can be locked. It's purpose has been fulfilled.

...and by "this" I mean all the horrible 9/11 threads that were made on the Flood last year.

Threads with hundreds posts of nothing but sick humored-jokes and images about 9/11 were thriving on 9/11/2011. The mods did lock a few threads, but threads that stood as a "main" discussion hub stayed alive, and the horrible posters were never punished for what they did. The mods basically did nothing. It got to the point where flamewars were being started over the issue of, get this... being able to make fun of it.

I know some of the mods will say that they did, in fact, ban people that day, but I know for a fact that the sick-humored posts within the threads were never taken care of.

For discussion value, what's your opinion on this issue? Not 9/11, but the issue of posters making fun of such a tragedy on the Bungie.net forums.

Report the posts you think were bad. PM them to a moderator. It isn't all that hard, mate.

I would agree and say that I hope that the mods are more... watchful (and more active) on that day.

Of course I can do that, but last year was horrible. Nobody was punished for all the horrible images and things said. A lot of them were foreign, American-bashing people, but some were from this country. I just find it very disappointing that moderators didn't keep the Flood clean that day. It's as if they were laughing with them...

*sigh* I'll PM them if I see it occur, but I have a feeling I won't be getting any responsive actions...

What's incredibly ironic is that the mods actually stopped that discussion and banned people who joked about it.

I haven't seen any jokes about that whole incident here for a while now.

Seriously, or just the forums in general.

This is the type of attitude someone that jokes about it themselves would have.

What I'm addressing is why the mods let it slide. What does it have to do with me being on the Flood or not?

Seriously, check this out.

On one hand, it happened over 10 years ago and you need to not let a bunch of Internet trolls get the better of you, and on one hand, if it's violent it shouldn't be on The Flood.

Making fun of other tragedies happens all the time on that board without action, I don't understand why 9/11 should be the exception.

Hello community, If you have any questions or concerns then please feel free to ask, whatever it may be and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge/ability. (It may not be THE answer you're looking for but AN answer is better than NO answer.)

Thank you.

Asking the mods to not let 9/11 posts happen is like trying to dodge a bullet to the face at point blank range. It's impossible. It's highly improbable.

Just let it go. It's gonna hit ya. Like being shot by Clint Eastwood, while being drop kicked by Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee simultaneously, and Morgan Freeman is narrating the entire event to a tee. You just can't stop it.

Does it make it any more justifiable?

Кланяються мені!

While it is a controversial issue, what makes discussion of it offensive can vary from person to person to the point that it isn't even offensive discussion at all. I believe in that the mods will do their job and moderate any discussion down to reasonable discussion. The bad thing about controversy is that it's a war fought on multiple fronts. The best way to prevent these threads are to ignore them, and if you believe them to break the rules report it.

urk: "This is a bad idea."
DeeJ: "Hold still..."

If I make a "I did -blam!- that coming" joke, is it not funny to someone?

It doesn't make it any less "wrong" because it affects people, and don't try and say "well its not as important cause it was a long time ago", because then you're basically saying the holocaust isn't as big a deal since it was a long time ago...Millions died from that. Millions.

my point is, 9/11 jokes are bad, and people should feel bad. But the mods can only lock/ban what is actually breaking the rules.

Long as it isn't spam, hateful, illegal, political, or religious (the only categories I can think it would fit under) then their hands are tied.

Actually, this is not true. Considering the phrasing of the rules (ie: ambiguous "spam", "don't be a jerk" rule), it's actually very easy to ban anything under the sun.

The big issue is that (most) moderators usually apply some reasoning when banning people. Basically, advocating bans for such subjectively "distasteful" nature is difficult. Not only are they not in direct conflict with the posted rules, but there's nothing inherently wrong with them.

OP, if you really want to censor things solely on the basis that some people don't like it, we might as well ban everyone for posting anything, for this is the internet, and all viewpoints are equally offensive, as yours is to me.

I switched over from an account that was linked to an email that I never really used.

And if a mod sees this post and questions me, I'll send you a PM from the account.

Well, then that should encourage the mods to be ready for that day.

GOAT

As far as I know OP, talking about 9-11 isn't against the rules. I guess joking about it could be twisted into breaking some rule, but I really don't see it.

That said, mods will still lock threads about it that escalate quickly, or that result in flame wars between the people who are hurt and the ones making the jokes. Don't worry OP, if its so bad, you can hole up in the community forum or some groups for a while. Join a few and spend a day there.

If the post is outright flame bait the poster will be banned, otherwise it is really coming down to opinion, Bungie.net mods have some form of middle ground where they won't ban someone but they won't accept that type of nonsense anyway.
