This is a long one, DeeJ, but please don't dismiss it immediately and redirect me to the Jobs page. If you think it's too long or too personal, you could send me the replies as a PM... Just trim as necessary.
I'm a 2nd year (of 5, Master's included) Electronics Engineering student.
Aside from the Maths and the Physics, my course aims at teaching us to be Engineers, ie, to get -blam!- done and done right. But it's Electronics, not Computer Science, which means we don't have many programming classes, so I'm enrolling in the CS Prog classes that I can fit in my schedule.
I chose EE instead of CS because I hate the idea of being yet another code monkey writing Java 24/7 or writing cute little "apps" for the latest botnet OS (and also because of Dave's EEVBlog). Don't get me wrong, I love programming, but being a typist is not enough for me, I want to engineer!
Now, I would love to be part of something like Bungie (or Valve). The people, the spirit, the workplace, the work, it all seems absolutely fantastic. My question is: what can an Electronics Engineer (with added focus on Telecommunications, according to the actual name of the course) do for a company like Bungie? I don't know what you're doing, so it's not like I can say "hey guys, I'd like to help on making that VR thing". Also, I read posts like that and I'm like "how can I even compete with people with such experience that seems to have fallen in their hands like magic? I'm not even from the USA, so I can't go to E3 and meet Bungie employees and show them how much of a nice guy I am!"
What should I do while I'm at Uni to be worthy of an interview when I finish my course? I will fly there for one. I may sound like I just want to work with you because I think it's prestigious or something. Not at all, I want to be part of a great team working on great projects (this sounds even more pretentious...), I just don't know what I need to learn and what I need to do to be valuable to you!
