Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.

I think that you may be assigning far too much significance to the anniversary (or anniversaries) of past events as they relate to current events.
It's a very human thing to do. We attach significance to "another year since ______" but for everything and everyone but us, it's just "today".
My dogs don't know when it's their birthday (provided my wife can restrain from celebrating it), my car doesn't know that it is another year older, and unless they are marking X's on trees like condemned criminals, none of the animals around me even know that today is Tuesday.
Time, days, weeks, years and the significance of them is all on us, a projection of our own minds. If one attempts to truly grasp the meaning of "soon", then one stops looking at the clock, at the calendar and starts looking around at what today holds for us.
Think on this as you return to your meditation, young Padawan and we will speak of it again. Soon.
But master, are you saying its wrong to celebrate or remember certain events on certain days? Are you saying the opening day of hunting season doesn't matter? My world has been shattered.
Each day has its own significance, but do not be overcome by your desire and instinct to find patterns that repeat themselves and lose sight of the unique and special aspect of each new event as it unfolds.
"Soon" carries much meaning. It shows us that our waiting will be rewarded, but that the date is uncertain. That there is more importance in the quality of the moment, than the time of the moment.
