After hearing how the human weapons' strength has been made closer to that of the covenant weapons (at least in multiplayer) and witnessing how quickly an elite was dispatched using dual wielding (again, in multiplayer), it occured to me that Bungie might be making single-player halo 2 too easy. Of course, it's very early to be making absolute judgments about a game mode we haven't heard much about. It's possible to kill an elite in Halo 1 with "weaker" weapons by using a charged plasma pistol immediately followed by the human pistol, but this required good coordination when switching weapons, good aim (head shot), and the plasma pistol had to be recharged before the process could be repeated. With dual weilding, it seems like the process of killing an elite quickly could be reduced to holding down the fire button for a 2-3 seconds.

I'm sure Bungie is spending more time thinking about balance issues like the above than I'd ever care to, but the pessimist in me can't resist....
Judging from the gameplay movies, It looks like the whole pace of action might have slightly increased, so perhaps the increase will help keep the difficulty level--on legendary, at least--high enough.

bah

Look at it this way, how hard would Halo be, on Easy, if all of the Covenant were played by real people? Do you think you could beat even one level? I'm thinking no one ould beat Halo if the "AI" were that smart. Halo 2's AI is going to be so much better, they don't need the enemies to be a lot stronger than you are. That's my take on the issue.

Do note that you still have to aim at one thing at a time and it will still take 3-5 seconds to take down an elite. Plus don't forget the whole reloading problem? etc etc :)

You might get the quick punch right away, but you might be leaving yourself right in the clear afterwards. :D

i thought the equal strength of elites and spartans was only in multiplayer for obvious reasons. i would think that the elites would be the same strength in Halo 2 single player as they were in Halo 1 single player......

I assume that the whole reason behind the Campaign mode is 1) to get you skilled for all other game types and 2) to give you storyline. My opinion is that they wouldn't have you go against real people.. for some, it may take fun out of it. But for me, I don't have Live, Campaign is basically all I've got, and I wouldn't be able to play any Halo 02 then, and I would cry. Bungie won't make me cry. ;D

I would have to agree, the AI is going to be way beyond that of it's mighty predecessor. Another thing to consider, is that the Covenant are "supposedly" going to be involved in a full gound invasion of Earth; therefor, Halo 2 will probably have much higher numbers of enemies to deal with in campaign mode.

Or join them?

Although, it would be much less complicated to just kill them:)
