If you want ideas from different games in Halo 3. You should go play those games. Artillery strikes are stupid. The AR SUCKS. AR = No Skill. let merepeat that AR = NO SKILL. At least the BR takes skill.Almost forgot,dont forget about that ''NOOB COMBO'',no skill at all either.

I love all your ideas except the commanding marines idea. It just isn't halo, we don't want it to end out like a call of duty.

Halo 3 Multiplayer Group

The main aim of this group is to express our ideas on how to improve Halo multiplayer in the next game.

1) NO LOCKING ANY THREADS
2) No more searching through pages and pages to see if your topic has already been discussed
3) Stickies are updated as more ideas flow in, so you dont have to read a whole thread, just read the top post!

Here's another fairly extensive yet comprehensive list:

Controller Alterations:

1) Be able to block swords and lasers with the sword using the B-button (since the B-button currently does the same thing as the trigger button).
2) X-Ray/Thermal vision for Elites, Night Vision/Infrared capabilities for Spartans by clicking through options with white (flashlight) button, and add nightvision back to the sniper.
3) Instead of using the black button (which has now been moved to a shoulder button on the 360) for talking on the headset, only use ‘UP’ on the D-Pad to talk, if the other three were used for communication and use the previuously black button as the: “SPECIALTY BUTTON.” In player settings, each person may choose from an array of new capabilities and assign only ONE of them to their controller to suit their playing style. They may choose from things like 1) Melee combo (perhaps short taps on ‘B’ button = fast, weaker hits, while holding down the ‘B’ button is a slower, stronger melee) 2) Momentary sprint 3) Jump higher. This will make playing styles more diverse and different jobs more suitable for certain players. There should also be a way for the host to turn these capabilities off.
4) There are currently many unused buttons when driving the Warthog/Spectre. Use one of them to switch seats quickly, in case you get in the wrong side or the driver dies, you need to be able to quickly alter seating.
5) Command nearby units within a radius of you by pressing down on the control pad, then scroll through things to say with the side keys of the control pad (ex. telling troops to follow you, or telling allies to stand ground). This could be used for fast orders on Live if a leader/squad captain is assigned, or in campaign to A.I. Why not put the D-Pad to use? In ‘Settings’ you could select the phrases you would use the most and assign them to your D-Pad from many options.
6) Be able to customize your controlls button-by-button.

Custom Game Options:

4) Be able to toggle (on/off):
(a) Banshee fuel rod
(b) Wraith plasma cannons
(c) Rocket launcher lock - on
(d) battery for the sword
(e) Getting slower with every kill you get
(f) In Personal Settings, set vehicle views from different seats to 3rd or 1st person
(g) Anti-dual-wield
(h) Turning off scopes
(i) Vehicle destructibility
(j) Large falls = lethal or cause damage
(k) Unlimited grenades or ammunition
5) Adding weather changes (a feature to be turned on/off) like rain, snow, wind, etc. which ultimately changes playing circumstances, not just the visuals.
6) Set time to ‘day’ or ‘night,’ adding the concept of stealth and need for night/thermal vision.
7) Put ‘team game’ on/off in quick options. Then you don’t need to make as many different game types (i.e. slayer, team slayer, etc.)
9) Start different teams out with differing types of weapons, limit the weapons they can pick up, and edit general benefits/limitations of each team. This is good for team-switching or tag games. (perhaps blue team has blue sentinel beam/plasma rifle, red team with red sentinel beam/plasma rifle).
10) Be capable of playing as an ODST or the Arbiter in multiplayer.
11) Make custom game options more detailed:
Territories: Be able to attain all the territories to win, not based on time.
Slayer: Be able to spawn 1, 2 or 3 people maximum in a team game, cycling out teammates for team tournaments depending on who dies.
Weapons: Be able to pick EXACTLY which guns are on the map.

Maps

1) Complete the remaining classic Halo 1 maps in redone form.
2) Large map meant for 4-team strategy games (with bases equally suitable for all, not a small map like Foundation).
3) An anti-gravity multiplayer level (like in the beginning of Halo 2).

Game Types:

1) 'TAG’ genre (with a better name) for games like Zombies (potentially called 'Virus' or 'The Flood') or Escape where switching teams is crucial. Or a ‘tag’ game where you do not want to be it. Having this official would get rid of all the liars who don't switch weapons/teams.
2) 'VEHICLES' genre would also be great. This would include game variants such as race (collecting waypoints or complete circuit), buggy/air/vehicle wars (with more available vehicles to use than regularly spawn). A fun idea: Each team gets a Scarab, requiring a pilot and three potential people to opperate turrets. The rest try to guard or board the other people’s Scarabs to steal their flags, or even start driving another teams Scarab.
3) SLAYER gametype where you must kill others to expand your lifespan (all the way up to overshield)
4) Potential for multiple Juggernaughts
5) One player on a team only has one life and the rest of the team has to safely escort that person to a waypoint, while the other team(s) try to kill off that one player. (PRESIDENT)
6) ENDURANCE games (surviving waves of enemies co-operatively).

Vehicles:

1) Human version of Banshee with different capabilities (2 people, one gunner, one driver). Make the human version be able to hover and go backwards like the Banshee in Halo 1, and maybe add a shield to it?
2) Additional variations of the Buggy (especially for the ‘Buggy Wars’ game type) [including the variations seen before Halo 2’s release such as the snow or desert Buggy with special designs for those conditions]
3) Be capable of sitting on the Scorpion again.
4) Add ATVs

Weapons:

1) Plasma or flame-thrower in multiplayer. Have the ground burn a while after, hurting anybody who walks on it after a certain amount of time.
3) Fuel Rod available in multiplayer, option of making it have alternate fire of an arcing blast like in Halo PC version (turn on/off).
5) Be able to use Jackal shield as a dual-weilded weapon.
6) Use 3rd type of explosive with time bomb, remote detonation, or proximity mine capabilities, depending on what you want it to do.
7) Be able to use the blue sentinel beam in multiplayer. Add the plasma freeze to sentinel beams instead of plasma weapons, to make it a worth-while weapon.

Extra Features:

1) Online Co-operative play with 2 - 4 people, as well as XBOX LIVE campaign play.
2) Set up a list of hosted games that are custom made, much like seen in Halo PC. This would make it possible for non-friends to play new custom games.
3) More interaction with surroundings: buttons, triggers, being able to shoot out the lights, open doors by blasting them down, etc.
4) More destructible places on multiplayer maps (Not fully destructible, though, it would be cheap to shoot a rocket at the enemy base and make a hole right next to their flag).
6) Start out each player in ranked matches with a Battle Rifle or a Carbine for larger maps.
7) If you can make your own maps, in the menu and while the map is loading, make it possible to look at a model of the map so the designer does not have a total advantage over visitors who don’t know the map.
8) Personalization: Black armor option and include a custom, but controlled and wider range of options for symbols. Be able to make a Clan Symbol and have it appear in clan matches on your base, flags, and vehicles. Have one arm show your personal symbol, and the other your clan symbol instead of both the same. Be able to personally set you HUD color.
9) Makes an EXTRAS selection on the main menu including the following:
(a) A master data board (not on LIVE, but on your personal XBox) where you can see how long you have played the game, how many Spartans/Elites you have killed, total headshots, average shooting accuracy, amount of different medals, etc.
(b) View unlocked movies from the campaign.
(c) Map maker and action replay (with ability to store in memory and with LIVE file sharing)
10) More medals in multiplayer:
(a) No-Scope (only for snipers)
(b) Drive-By (kill someone from the passenger seat of a warthog/spectre)
(c) Double Sticky (stick a plasma grenade on someone twice)
(d) Expert Sniping (kill 4 people with one clip of ammo)
(e) Go for the Head (5 headshots in a row)
(f) Catching Air (shooting someone with a rocket or sniper in midair)
(g) Start it Off! (get the 1st kill)
(h) Finish the fight! (get the last kill)
(i) Grenadier (stick someone from a long distance)
Along with medals for completing missions on certain difficulties. Have certain degrees of medals.
11) Let the Masterchief’s armor show battle damage as he progresses with each life after being shot.
12) Be able to zoom in and out/rotate camera around the player in spectator mode when waiting to respawn.

Yes, Assault rifle needs to be weaker, since we already have two rifles that couls shoot as far, and farther than the AR..three rifles with different functions would be funky.
ARTILLARY STRIKE? This is Halo, not Battlefiend. Stop trying to change it into that.
I'm so sick of people commenting on this. Go play containment, and think of a map 5 times that size. How is it going to stay fun? We need more things to fight for rather than just a flag, or bomb etc.

Artillery strikes will keep everyone on their toes, though not unbalancing anything.

To the person reguarding the sword's charge..I don't think it will need a charge if the weapons act as they're supposed to, and won't be nerfed like they were in halo 2..

You know why? Halo CE was far more balanced and actually took loads of skill. I'd like Halo 3 to be more of a mixture of the two, without removing core game elements (or severely weakening them) to add in cool new features (dual wielding, boarding).

I completely agree with PVT COOPER. Halo 1 can be compared to the H1 or original Hummer. Completely useful made for offroading a true badass vehicle. Simple yet very effective, no B.S. get the job done and then some. Then there is Halo 2 or the H2. Same Hummer name although now it is manufactured by GM. Made a lot less rugged, not anywhere near the off roading capabilities, geared way more towards the standard mass appeal SUV Americans have come to love. And now it is selling more than ever and soccer moms and yuppies everywhere are now true offroaders with a no prisoner mentality ( LOL Halo 2 players, can you see a resemblance?)I am tired of all those who never played Halo 1 and are the proudest and loudest supporters of Halo 2. Everything that separated Halo from all other FPS was taken out or watered down for implementation into Halo 2. Easier health, easier weapons, (plasma sword?) and spray and prey gameplay, making it an avg. shooter for average gamers and overall a below average experience, when compared to Halo 1. Halo was a simple game that could be taken to the gamers ability allowing great players the ability to stand out because of their individual skill either by getting kills or by team assists etc. Halo 2 tries to force feed the Halo 1 specialties down your throat making it anything but exciting. My only hope is that Halo2 is strictly a watered down commercial version to attract more casual gamers, and then Halo 3 will be back with the strategy and true skill required to have a great game. Give me back the accurate pistol, the powerful shotgun, the old mele, the true health bar, the real grenade throwing ability, the AR and the true Halo players who are about strategy and understand these concepts. If it is not broke, do not fix it. You can keep your dual wielding, infinite shield, no fall damage, anything fiesta, noob stick, KB TOYS PISTOL, heat sinking rocket launcher, power jump, Mario party match system, slightly improved graphics, worse user friendly interface, hidden easter eggs, and anything else that fell into the category of larger demographic, or casual gamers surveyed. The majority of "True Halo Gamers " meaning those who had the game at launch, hooked up X boxes all over the house, at all times of night, drove to out of state tournaments, and truly understood and still understand the uniqueness that Halo brought us would appreciate a true Halo game for True Halo Gamers. If you are looking for us, some may have given in to the X box live appeal, however some of us are still playing Halo (the not live compatible?) on Xbconnect. If Halo 3 is to be great you should let the Halo2 fanatics dual wield their weapons, and get 3 shots to the head with a true weapon. Halo2 belonged on the Gamecube. It is not a horrible game but it is not intended nor satisfactory for someone wanting a true Halo sequel. Without Halo 1 gamers there would most likely be no X box today due to the fact that Halo kept it alive. And for thanks to this we got Halo 2. I actually played Halo2 multiplayer before it was released and after 45min I went back to Halo. Praying it was not the actual game I still purchased it on the release date only to be completely disappointed. As I stated before it is an overall good game for the average gamer. It does not however have the Halo gameplay I believed would be there. If Halo2 released with X Box you could find the Dreamcast and the X Box on the same shelf at a garage sale. You (Bungie) may argue numbers, most live games played, most players etc... However LAN games played on Halo1 I believe would be far superior as far as numbers are concerned when compared to previous games played on a LAN. You can get a feel for who understands the game by the suggestions they make. Example:(1) Original Pistol is to powerful = Not good enough or smart enough to hide, or shoot back and win the battle.(2) Dual wielding is awesome = Not accurate enough with one weapon.(3) Need more weapons = never understood the balance in Halo1 was a perfect weapon set with the outcome based on skill not weapon in hand. (4) Halo 2 is better than Halo 1 = Believes what other people tell them, fall for marketing concepts, believes anything newer or has more is better. I have never been this concerned with a videogame in my lifetime, however Halo showed me a whole new concept of game strategy that you could truly master. Give me Hangem and Chillout, give me physics that make sense, give me the original gameplay that gave birth to Halo, or do not give me Halo 3.

Yes, those things piss me off as well..

Agreed, except for the 'assist' count..Assists are a cool new feature (you're talking about the ones listed in post-game, right?)

I agree on all except for the Pistol and Shotty and Health. I already addressed the health, but I think our midrange is perfectly fine at a 4sk, but it needs the Pistol's range and accuracy, and auto aim (or lack thereof)..the shotty was extremely powerful..I think that a "Host shotty" for everyone would suffice...somewhere inbetween the Halo and Halo 2 shotty.

I think dual wielding can be fixed, and all weapons "un-nerfed"..check my "weapons" post in the beginnning of the thread..The rocket in Halo was actually stronger, just had longer reload time and no lockon..

i've had Halo since it was launched, but I never went out of state for tourneys..I had LAN parties with friends though.
Example:(1) Original Pistol is to powerful = Not good enough or smart enough to hide, or shoot back and win the battle.
The pistol was annoying most of the time, since it was all people used (in my experience) and I think this would get extremely boring in Xbox LIVE.."poppoppop" that's ALL you'd hear..
(2) Dual wielding is awesome = Not accurate enough with one weapon.
Dual wielding is a cool feature, refer to my first post to see how it could be fixed for Halo 3 and thus bringing back Halo's more skillful gameplay.

I think more weapons would be cool (though not stupid ones, like combat knives and mines)

Believe it or not, at least one person actually believes that. I think both games are on an equal pedestal..

i liked mostly everything, however i think that a few more maps from halo 2 such as ascension, burial mounds, and zanzibar need to make it in along with some others. also i think that the turret should be usable on both tanks

How about being able to choose the amount of exploding barrels/other objects on a map, and being able to choos whether they respawn?

Oh and plz, no covie shotgun (in my opinion thats what the sword was).

MC works ALONE! (or with other spartans).

I like your idea on the barrels..but the Covie shotty would just be a weapon that mostly shows up on Covenant gametypes (Like the Carbine..and in a Covie game, the Shotty would be replaced by a Needler Shotgun rather than a Needler...)

Needler shotgun is fun to use (I think it's better than a regular Shotgun) but we all have differing opinions on the matter..

The squad commands or optional (they wouldn't get rid of the AA) but they're just a feew commands to keep Marines out of your way when you want to form an ambush, etc.

Airstrikes would only be on the largest of maps (think 5x the size on Coagulation)..that game would not be fun without something keeping it alive..Pelicans and the Occasional Airstrike?

Those are certainly contenders.

your ideas are ok for the most part, but when it comes to new stuff they suck... this isnt Perfect Dark Halo, Battlefield Halo, GoldenHalo, HaloCE3, or anything like that...

HaloCE does not equal Halo2, it maintains the same story and both multiplayers are done very well. The only thing that was a downfall in Halo2 was the modders. I want Halo3 to be what it is... Halo3, bungie's finale Halo game, i want it to be what they make, not what we make. If you want to make a game, make one, until then, i think we should leave the game making to the geniuses behind the game itself.

Weapons / vehicles / levels / dynamics / names of the game are all there because they were all thaught of before the games were made, they are all part of a history line created by bungie. So if the halo Bible doesnt have air strikes, dont expect them, especially when a lot of airforce bases have been taken out

There are airstrikes in the Halo books, so they are part of the Halo bible. There was really nowhere to fit them into the games (except the E3 demo for halo 2, but that level was shortenned) and the MP maps are all too small.

Now, If I'm correct and Halo 3 will have larger maps and more people playing on them because of all the increased processing power..there may be room to add in an Artillery Strike.

Halo =/= Halo 2, I know this..and Halo 3 =/= Halo 2.

Hopefullf Halo 3 will take much more skill than Halo 2 did..and include less auto aim, dual wielding will be balanced (for once), and the weapons will have the power they had in Halo , and not be useless unless dual wielding.
