Each member could have a star count on their title bar, whenever a mod or employee saw them do something extraordinary, they could reward them with a star point.

That's a great idea. You should get star :).

I don't know how you'd go about identifying them. Custom title perhaps but I honestly think that contributing members are recognized naturally.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

My version of "better" is much different than everybody elses.

Yes. For instance I just had a discussion with a moderator the other day. About how no matter how much good someone does, a single slip-up no matter how minor and the gates of hell are opened up.

Giving some way to recognize people that actually do do good things would be a fantastic idea in my opinion. I don't think positives are ever weighed as much as they should be.

Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies.
Mass media, Mass pessimism, Mass Denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.
The apathetic force us to persevere, with their backwards priorities.

They are already recognized.

No, forums are about discussion, not a competition to get "recognition".

So are you stating that you think that people who are given good recognition shouldn't be banned on the same terms as those who haven't?

Then you need to rethink the recognition. I'm fairly certain ninjas are chosen based on liklihood of following and upholding the rules of the site, so these badges could undermine it if those who receive them think that they should be held to different standards.

If anything, the punishment for slipping up when a higher ranking member does it should be higher, since technically they should be more mature and more aware of the rules.

We should all have apples. If we're doing a good job our apple is green, if we get warned our apple is yellow, and if the apple is red...bad things man.

The only problem I can see with this is what is actually perceived as a better member of the community, or what is perceived as worthy of a special privilege of any sort.

Is it simply by length of membership?
Is it on a case by case basis?
Is it just whoever happens to be friends with a mod and/or employee at Bungie?

I'm not opposed to the idea. Just curious mostly what the basis of being awarded would be.

No. I'm saying all aspects should be weighed. For instance. Let's say somebody holds game nights, manages several communities or one large one, posts regularly, helps people out, whatever. These people should not be subject to the same scrutiny as somebody that has not proven themselves. Everybody makes mistakes every once in a while. Banning somebody that you KNOW has no ill intent and contributes in a positive manner in the rest of the community for something completely trivial is not nearly as warranted as banning somebody brand new that does the same thing.

Then you need to rethink the recognition.Your opinion of me is of little consequence, thankfully.

I'm fairly certain ninjas are chosen based on liklihood of following and upholding the rules of the site, so these badges could undermine it if those who receive them think that they should be held to different standards. ... That's a pathetic reason. "Don't give good people any recognition because it could make the moderators look less awesome!"

If anything, the punishment for slipping up when a higher ranking member does it should be higher, since technically they should be more mature and more aware of the rules.Man I'll tell you. If an old man jaywalks and I were a judge and this somehow made it to court, I'd give him thirty years since he should know better by now.

First of all, internet forums are not equal to real life.

Secondly, that my opinion of you (which I made no opinion of, it was more of a generalized statement) has no consequence doesn't bother me, as this is a website. And you are one of 7 billion people in the world.

Thirdly, my suggestion that higher members should be held to higher standards makes more sense than higher members should be given more leeway because you know their intentions are good.

This I can agree with. Milestones perhaps? Something everyone can work towards. Easy to lose if you don't keep yourself in check, but worth the effort to obtain.

Sure, and an alternative to the badge nomination system, perhaps a reputation feedback system. Users could give feedback on other users, and depending on the quantity and quality of feedback, said user would receive a rating.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I'll bring the tritium laser cutters if you bring the beer!

Funny story.

No, it would cause endless spam of people trying to get certain recognitions.

Title bars are automatic and apart from normally posting it's not clear how to get a new one, so the incentive there isn't active.

But if you had a recognition for "Game-night host" you'd suddenly have 10 game-night threads per day all volunteering for their service.

First off, way to completely avoid every single point and just say 'Well I make sense you don't so there.' This is not kindergarten. Such arguments hold absolutely zero weight mate.

Second, I would like to state that the completely asinine statement that 'this is not real life' in no way invalidates anything I said. The fact you chose to claim ignorance rather than attempt to make the embarrassing claim that the metaphor is not relevant shows us all you realize your previous statement is ridiculous in every conceivable way. Look up the definition of the word metaphor. Then get back to me. No no no it's OK do not fret. I'll wait.

Traditionally, if someone does something worthy of recognition, they are usually recognized as such. It is very rare to see a good list of helpful hints not become a sticky, or select members who contribute much to the community not eventually hold a respective role in it.

Daza, what you are asking for is what you have always asked for: a way to not read members posts and still get some content. Some members are happy that this website is not run by the majority fallacy or a badge system.

Be it a like/dislike system, an ignore system, or a badge system, you ultimately seek a method for getting the "best" and ignoring the rest. I ask, why do you go to a web forum if you do not wish to read the posts? What does this reflect on your ability to moderate?
