Subject: Should "better" members be recognised?

Perhaps they should. But, on what grounds do we identify "better" members? General opinion? A vote from employees (the ninjas are the "better" members and have a job.) A vote from the ninjas? A vote from the people with a large list of people who've done stuff?

Then, you need to implement what you do with it. I certainly would like to see who people think are the "better" members, but, then again, I may still dislike them. Now, it all depends on the criteria of the "better"ness of them.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

Everyone on my level is a better member.

Edit: To avoid confusion, I don't mean Mythic. Although I'll probably be back to Legendary in a few days, not all Mythic members are on my level.

Canada isn't that important that it needs two of the same threads on page one.

So basically Recon for the forums? Sounds horrifying.

Hey daz, is this another idea to put a halt to alternate accounts by giving one account some sort of value?

Formerly Sparten110.

Also check out Last Refuge, I hear all the cool kids are going there :)

A badge system could be made. Like you share artwork get and artist bade.

I like this idea. The only way I can really see people being recognised is via titles.

Welcome to the town of "Diligence." I'm Mayor Due.

Perhaps you could start with a list of "core values" that this site holds in high regard.

Technological prowess
Artistic aptitude
Respect and courtesy

Things of that nature....

After having found the list of values, you could devise a plan for recognition.

My only concern is that in the end these stamps of recognition will become a job, much like your moderating, resulting in typecasting and prevent other users input. Not to mention, the recognized member may not want to be riddled with questions about their said status.

Say your a tech savvy guy, do you really want all tech questions suddenly being directed your way?

Perhaps a behind the scenes acknowledgement might work just as well.

By "better" I refer to members (or groups of members) who make contributions to the community. For instance, by the way they post, sharing their artwork, stories, organising game nights, etc...

Why not have a way of identifying the role models in this community?
If they're "better" by this definition, won't they be recognized anyway? Or by recognized, did you mean some form of rewarded as well?

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

It would just turn into a popularity contest.

People show preference to those who show accomplishment or achievement, and you are kind of just asking for that to occur on a more frequent basis than it already does when something of this sort is implemented.
Absolutely.

You know why? Because sometimes it's not worth reading everyone's opinion. If I ask a question about something I know nothing about, I would much rather get a response from/read a post from someone who I know knows what they're talking about. And that isn't just true of myself either. For instance, why do you think people want to be able to quickly find a Bungie employee's post in a topic? I'd wager a guess that it's because what they've posted may be authoritative in some way, and nobody wants to miss reading something like that.
And yet everyone else's thoughts and opinions are just glazed over like they aren't even there, which will happen, as it already does?

How is that fair to them, those who aren't better? It isn't It's unfair as it is, so in a sense you're just asking for potentially good input to be thrown away in favor of a post that has nothing to do with the topic itself, which the Moderators themselves have perfected in a sense.

What you are proposing will no doubt destroy whatever sense of equality that this website still has left for the regular, average members who post here. This is a friendly place for us all to come together on equal terms, and just discuss or debate whatever might be on our minds, within reason of course. We have titles and such, but asking for a way for people to be seen and recognized on the spot is asking for more complaints, more pissed of users, and a larger gap between those well-known, and those who are seemingly invisible.

Asking for something that makes people better than you isn't going to improve a user-friendly attitude, hell the very idea of having people better than me in one of the few places I can freely speak my mind makes me feel sick.

This is basically just asking for Elitism.

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle- victorious"

Having a recognition system would in my opinion destroy this community. However it may have some benefits. It could encourage better behaviour and more positive contributions.

I agree; avatars are pretty unnecessary.

Kind of like an award, but just a way of indicating to others who may not have seen the member before (ie. new users) that he/she has been deemed a good role model for the community for others to look up to (and as a good source of information - especially about the site).

That doesn't mean they will go unread. Consider it this way: if someone who has consistently proven themselves to have good/right answers, why shouldn't those be prominently displayed, especially when asking a simple question? Others' posts will still be there and can be read.

No. See above.

Again, no.

This doesn't make them better, it simply points out to others that specific users have been deemed a good member by some authority (eg. Bungie) and should probably be recognised for it. For instance, perhaps they consistently post in a respectable manner and this behaviour should therefore be highlighted in the community for others to follow.

So in that sense, they're already "better". All I'm asking is a whether it should be displayed in some way.

OMG Bungie, announce your game, now we're talking about member titles within member titles. We need to get back to talking about murdering each other online.

What do you think of having a basic symbol or pattern on "appreciated" members title bars. If Deej or Ninja's think someone is doing good work in the community, they could give that member the mark and it would stay on that members bar for 3 days or something. It would be a separate system from the title system.

Hooray for poor houses!

Damn straight

I like that idea.

I have a few questions though:

1) Will there be "badges" for various things, or just for being a responsible member of the community?

2) Will there be a set amount of "badges" available at any one time?

3) Do members have to have been members for a certain amount of time before they can be considered for a "badge"?
