We should know better, because we are better.

With Bungie.next coming soon, hopefully groups will see a jump in features and popularity. I have two small ideas for groups that I would hope to see.

1. Open Edit posts

In two separate groups I was part of projects. Their contents were not important, but it was essentially members classifying info for easy of finding it. A member posts and the OP edits their post to include the members information. However, the OP was not always available or forget about the thread.

My idea is that an OP can designate a post to be 'Open Edit' when creating a topic. This would allow members to contribute without having to wait for the OP to check up on the thread again. Understandably, this would have a very niche use. To use two examples of where it could be of use on the mains I point towards the Twitter user thread and the Member List thread.

The problem with trolls editing the OP to be a link to a shock site or delete other user's edits could be solved by a few small features. The OP can lock portions of the thread so that only they or a mod could edit those sections. Secondly, any member editing the OP leaves an 'Edited by User Name on Datestamp.' This edit stamp would be hidden user a small tab after the edit so viewers won't have to be confronted by an 'Edited by' string. Finally, new members would not be able to edit one of these posts until a time period has elapsed, just like new users are not allowed to make threads just after they joined.

2. Automatic Titles

Group admins have to manually promote members. In small groups this is usually okay, but in larger groups the admins just can't be aware of every single member's contributions and post count. In other cases, the admin may not even be present.

This feature would be that when an Admin is setting up titles they can set requirements for those titles. They could set it so that when a member hits a certain number of posts they are automatically boosted up to the next title. Admins can also set it so that some titles require manual intervention, like being promoted to a mod or custom titles. This way, admins don't have to worry about promoting members to new titles.

Admins can also set it so that when a member qualifies for a certain title they are not automatically promoted. This way, a member with a custom title doesn't lose it when they fulfill the requirements for another title.

Edit: 3rd idea: PM all
Exactly what it sounds like: an admin or mod can send a PM to every member of the group. The uses for this can vary. Maybe a large portion of the group isn't posting. Maybe they want to remind them they are still around. Maybe a game night is coming up and they want everyone to know.

When sending out a group PM, mods/admins can choose to exclude some members from the PM. You hardly need to remind one of your most active members that the group is still around and they want to see you post.

Thoughts?

First one I'm shaky on. Good premise, but it needs to be improved on.

Second on is a good idea.

EDIT: I do like option 3. As long as it's only used by groups. And has a limit of...1 every 2 weeks.

What qualifications would you set for a title?

Not sure about OP, but some things I would go with are

-Match with regular Bungie Title
-Number of Posts
-Time as a Member
-Posts per day in group

In the groups I am in, most promotions are based off of activity and time. Say, if you are in a group for a month and post at least 30 times you go to the next level up. Both features are optional, so an Admin can still choose to promote the members manually.

Automatic Titles
I support this. I made a thread about it a while ago.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

1. I can see its use, but I wouldn't trust people to an open-edit post. That would make it way too easy for people to spread around false information, insults, or other negative writing. I also don't see how the ban system would work for those offenders in an open-edit post.

2. Sounds like a good idea.

3. Same as above.

Not all posts would be Open Edit. The OP would have to monitor it to make sure that false information isn't spread, and can edit what other members edit into the post. In the case of insults or flaming, each edit would have an 'Edited by' string that shows what user edited what. If a user making an edit is banned, the edit is removed and won't return until they are unbanned. However, if the editor is banned for a post outside the thread and the OP doesn't want to lose their contribution, the OP can lock what the user edited. That way, it won't disappear if the user is banned, but the OP will also be held accountable for any rules that edit may break.

And yeah the third one should definitely be implemented. I just hope no admins in the groups I'm in would go about abusing that power. Perhaps those kinds of messages could be kept somewhere other than your PM inbox - an "alert" inbox or something.

I have actually made a full blown thread on your 3rd idea mentioned before. I would love to see "Mass Private Messaging" enabled for groups. Often I find myself having to manually send messages to every single person of my group and it's a time issue. Basically having a "M2AF" for private groups is the better way to go.

To sum up my approach of it, I have a couple suggestions for it.

>It would be a privileged checkbox with member security permissions
>Members would be able to "opt out" of receiving MPM's.
>It would be something that would either help or hurt a private group.

Spamming mass messages to members in your group would be one sure to to act silly and get members that don't want to be there anymore. But using it wisely will actually help keep activity within your group. The example you mentioned in your OP are perfect ways to use them. Personally I would send messages maybe once every week or couple weeks.

Who am I?

mah twitter

I like number 2 and 3. I'm fine with 1 as well but to me it just sounds very complicated. Is there really need for such a system? I don't know.

I know this isn't facebook and all, but a user news page thing would work for this.

It would update with news articles from groups. Title changes in groups. These Mass messages. News items from Bungie. And potentially more. Would be a quick checkup page essentially.

Love playing custom games?

Well come join Customs Evolved

We are group dedicated to playing custom games, map testing, game nights, etc. Anyone is welcomed to join, and we hope to have as much fun as possible!

For the 1st idea, I think that edits should be approved before it actually goes into the post. Of course edits would be approved by moderators or by the admin.

That is a good idea. Right underneath the Find Group and Create group buttons there could be an inbox for all your group messages. All those messages could be stored in one place and would be easilly visible because you would see them each time you go to your group page.
