Subject: Are Ninjas allowed to "Spy" in groups?

There's no way Nate Hawbaker's favorite hero is Alan Stuart

ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

A thought crossed my mind today while eating a chobani yogurt.

I've seen Ninjas posting in private groups along with normal members. Then, thanks to the proteinious power of the yogurt, I remembered Recon saying how Ninjas aren't able to be mods in groups (unless promoted so) and are given normal color ranks.

So, one thing eventually lead to another, and I came to this conclusion:

If a Ninja saw a user in a group doing something clearly outside the rules (shock sites for example), could the Ninja go to the profile of the user and ban him, or is it up to the moderators of the group to decide what to do with him?

Can the Ninja have an 'override' access and essentially ban the user even though the Ninja was 'outside his jurisdiction'? (assuming the Ninja is a normal member in the group, not a mod)

What is your take on this?

-Mr. U

Not sure they can. I've seen Achronos do it before though.

Feel free to send me messages, please be willing to wait 6-8 years for a reply.

1-7 hours if you at least tried to make it readable.

Immediately if you are Yax, Telec, or legendary.

Never if you are mythic, you guys smell funny.

I think it would all depend on the content that was listed in said group. If it was something serious or illegal, I am guessing the ninja would inform a bungie employee and he would take any appropriate action.

Ninjas themselves can't override and like Recon said the other day, unless they're given the power to moderate by the group admin, they have no power.

I guess, if something was extremely bad and broke the ToU and CoC, they would just inform a superuser e.g. Achronos.

  • 09.12.2012 2:24 PM PDT

No, but Superusers such as Achronos, DeeJ and urk can do said "spying" because they are not subject to the same user restrictions as us.

So, are you implying Ninjas are not above the law, and are subject to the same rules and restrictions? (A certain Ninja comes to mind *coughcough)

They are the law. Not above it. They enforce it. The Ninjas are cops and Achronos is Judge Dredd.

Ninjas can't, the only person I've see do this is Achronos. I'm not sure if Urk and Deej can do it (probably can) but I know for sure that Achronos can.

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

Forum Ninjas volunteer work are limited to the public forums. Now I'm sure that doesn't mean they don't notice when someone is clearly posting something that is against the Terms of Use and Code of Conduct even if it's in private groups.

Keep in mind that forum moderators also have close connections with the webteam. I'm sure if you seriously violate the Code of Conduct and Terms of Use, the Bungie webteam themselves would have no problem removing you, even if it's in private groups. You still have no rights.

Seems to be the most fleshed-out answer. Thanks for the info.

DeeJ can do it. Both Achronos and DeeJ have popped into YANW from time to time, and Mythix got yelled at by Achronos for the boobs thread. (thanks, Molo)

Those Aholes are always popping in TWP. They pretty much Spam the group on a daily basis.

If they "spy" in on their own HFCS private group it would be hilarious.

Interesting, I bet running turtle and sawnose can do this too but they don't interact with us much. I've seen Deej post in the Mythix group. The first time I saw him I thought he sneaked his way in but then I saw that he was a member. Actually now that I think about it I remember DeeJ going around to groups when that History fiction contest was getting all that drama.

You guys must be very naughty at YANW to get Achronos and DeeJ on your case. As for Achrono's chastisement in the Mythix group It must have happened when I was gone.
