Well, here we are. I guess that it was destined to come to this.
When it comes to typical forum discussions (which is 99% of my posting. Posting, not forum activity) I consider myself another member. When it comes to my enforcement of the rules, that is completely separate from my interaction with my fellow members.
I have never used the play of "Shut up dude, I have power here and that means my opinion is correct" while in a discussion. Such a statement or attitude would be illogical, silly and would make me unsuitable for the job. I believe that all of my colleagues, to one extent or another, understand that difference and we all do our best to avoid that particular trap of power.
It's why I have used Coup as an anti-coup and made my forum appearance (for those who use the script, I don't, I've turned the bloody thing off in order to save my eyes and sanity) as close to a basic member as possible. I personally don't like standing out because of a title bar or colored text. If something that I SAY stands out, if my personality and/or persona is memorable, I can live with that, but I don't want to be known, respected, feared, or to have any recognition simply because of a checkbox setting that an admin made to my account.
I am very unchanged (personality-wise) from when I first posted on these forums. That may be hard to believe for some, but try to understand, I was 39 when I created this account. I had long since gone through the changes of adolescence and of young adulthood. This is me, this is who I am, this is how I act, and ninja or not, I couldn't be anyone else. I am flattered and always a bit humbled that our hosts have said "be yourself and if you see bad things, here's the ability to do something about them".
So this ninja? I am a member. The badge, the belt and the hardware dangling from the belt? They are not who I am, they are just something that I do when I think something needs doing. But I am still me, with or without the trappings. I couldn't be anyone else.
