Subject: Thoughts on the ninja system as a whole / ninjas are members too

Dear tomorrow, Find some sensibility, Respond to emotion.
Dear Politician, Define sagacity,
All chances of survival are beginning to diminish.
Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies.
Mass media, Mass pessimism, Mass Denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.
The apathetic force us to persevere, with their backwards priorities.

Respect for the ninjas? More like fear.

They're everywhere.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

They always have something witty to say and I can't wait until I achieve their knowledge of forum-going.

So this ninja? I am a member. The badge, the belt and the hardware dangling from the belt? They are not who I am, they are just something that I do when I think something needs doing. But I am still me, with or without the trappings. I couldn't be anyone else.

I love the way that you put that. I see how the Ninja title bar can almost be a curse during regular discussion. I enjoy heated discussion with all members but especially with moderators.

Most of the time they are older / have more experiences and bring different perspectives than others on the forum.

Half Man.
Half Horse.
Half Machine.
All "Jerk Who's Really Bad at Math."

PS
No, I do not want to join your clan/group.

The ninjas themselves make it work. I've been to plenty of other websites, forums, and chats where there are moderators undeserving of a single iota of respect simply because they act like spoiled children with their power, but that doesn't seem to be an issue here (or at least, not that I've seen).

I try not to treat each of them with a measure of respect until I see something that makes me think maybe this individual doesn't deserve that courtesy. I do not handle them with the "kid gloves" and nor do I fear them; I've no reason to think they're going to lash out and ban me for something as petty as holding a different opinion; if a ban comes my way, it will likely be because I've earned it.

That said, with titles like "Forum Ninja," I'm highly disappointed with the distinct lack of decapitated bodies lying around here.

I think forum ninjas are awesoem because they are themselves and like other people have said they aren't really better, just handsome, then anyone else, but they have the communities and bungies respect.

I refer to those instances as the carpet ban. Something i have seen only 2 times and one of the times the ban was dropped by Achronos himself. I have never been a fan of the carpet ban concept but on occasion ( both in the flood ) it's really the only option available.

also the ban appeal system seems to work well here. Though very few bans are overturned seeing as how ~98 percent of all bans were an obvious violation of the rules.

The different colour scheme makes them the worst ninja's ever.

YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE INVISIBLE.

Key

There's a ninja or two (Qbix) who really lessen the ability of the Forum Ninjas as a whole to maintain a truly objective (Non-Norwegian), honest (Non-European), and fair (Non-Qbixian) identity. These forums would be much better off without some (Qbix) of (Qbix) these (Qbix) mods (Qbix89). The sad reality of it is that those mods (Qbix) will always lessen the overall approval rating (whether-or-not-Qbix-is-a-ninja-rating) of the general public. I really hope (demand) that whenever the Web Team gets the chance (now), they really take a good look at their ninja staff and if all of them should be there (A.K.A. fire Qbix).

I don't know anything about ninja duality or if ninjas are respected because they're ninjas or because they make good replies (and inversely if they're ninjas because of or in spite of making said replies) but I certainly agree with this. Certain ninjas are nothing short of detrimental to the website, community, and humanity at large. We would do well if they somehow no longer existed.

OT: I already said I don't know anything about ninjas or duality of anything non-Qbee bashing. So I need no "don't ban for off topic replies because I made an on topic addendum" qualifier. You should have already gathered that from the first part of this post. That you haven't suggests you're with Qbee in his active attempt to disrupt all that is good and just in this world. You will be purged for this crime.

Whoo.

I make fun of moderators more than regular members.
It's quite a position of prestige.

I want to know what other members think of our moderators.
I think of them as regular members with the added responsibility of keeping it clean for the rest of us. Honestly, I appreciate what they do for the site's forums in general. I think moderating these forums would actually make the experience a lot less enjoyable for me.

Also how you treat ninjas when debating with them in a thread.I treat them like any other members I'm in a debate with. They're not going to ban me simply because I disagree with them or prove them wrong (at least I know dazza is like this). In fact, the moderators tend to be the only ones who actually engage in a debate with me. Other members dismiss my comments and move on to other topics.

Do you treat them as peer members or do you handle them with "kid gloves"?I treat them like any another member on the site. They are just the lucky (or unlucky, depends how you look at it) few who have been chosen to keep the site a safe and clean place for the rest of us.

I enjoy it the most when I get to talk with them on non video game topics over in the flood. There have been a few good ones.

That's what I like about our moderators. They see their title not as a means to forcibly prove their point, but to engage with the community more in discussion.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

I think it's a bit of both. There's no doubt that all of the Ninjas are great people, certainly are great at what they do, which is why users hold them in such high regards. I also think that there's something about the salmon bar and text that encourages respect as well. When debating with Ninjas, I treat them as respectfully as I would any other user on this site.

There are Ninjas that are simply members of this forum who were trusted enough to be given a janitorial role, and then there are Ninjas that were simply members of this forum who were trusted enough to be given a janitorial role who then took it so seriously they make everyone take off their shoes before entering.

I look at the Forum Ninjas as fans of Bungie who came to this site and exemplified (and still to this day exemplify) what Bungie is all about in their own ways. Whether they like to admit it or not, they enjoy what they do and take pride it in. If they didn't they wouldn't have said yes to the opportunity and remained a moderator.

I respect them not only as enforcers of rules but as fellow members who add a wonderful, ongoing aspect to this site that would otherwise be missing if it were, say, just a few employees specifically "hired" to "monitor" these forums. It's like the square and the rectangle, they are us but we can not be them. The exception to that rule is, of course, on of us are chosen as new exemplars and accept.

Also, salmon text is pretty darn awesome.

I don't personally think employees make good mods anyway. Other than Achronos since hes really here all the time >_>

It's best to get someone from outside. Bungie themselves takes care of us in other ways.

Everything you know is wrong.

Ninjas are like undercover hall monitors. They are here and there and we don't even know it until they speak up!

They keep us in check! :)

  • 09.14.2012 1:49 PM PDT

Checking out my profile I see?

Personally the ninjas hold my respect through how they act and what they post. A ninja that acted like an idiot wouldn't earn my respect simply because of a title.

I feel like DeeJ and urk (wherever he is) do fine jobs as moderators/Community Managers in their own right.

That being said, I love how Bungie handles a lot of aspects on their site and in their game making.

You. Shut the -blam!- up, shut the -blam!- up now, do you hear me? Don't make me come over there and shove my -blam!- into your tender and unused -blam!- and turn it into a -blam!--blam!--blam!- that no one would even think of looking at, let alone loving.

Are we -blam!- clear?
