I have been recently been looking into the gravemind message and have thought on what it could mean....I think I found out the answer.

"...I have walked among men and angels for three thousand years. Time has no end... no beginning... no purpose.
I wander the earth, seeking forgiveness for my horrible crimes against God and man.
I live to see death, destruction, over the light, but the light cannot be extinguished.
I live in a prison of my own demise.
I am lost in time... "

this message is found by recording the one of the two places given and reversed.
A. at the begining of the level The Arbiter.
B. during the level Gravmind when rescuing the marines.

I have walked among men and angels for three thousand years.
I can see this as a way of saying that gravemind might be a forerunner consumed by the flood. If im correct, the flood make you into a living corpse, I do kind of consider that living and dead at the same time. He has walked among men in the flood form. He has walking with Angels in his former form.

Time has no end... no beginning... no purpose.
The flood dont exist live and die like us, they could live for a millenium, so to them time is of no purpose, thus to them time has no end.

I wander the earth, seeking forgiveness for my horrible crimes against God and man.
I also think that the flood could've been a way of punishment of crime, such as murder, theft,
that kinda of stuff. I belive that The Gravemind has commited a heineas crime and was punished by the flood.

I live to see death, destruction, over the light, but the light cannot be extinguished.
He lives to see the death and destruction over the light, possibly the Halos? Trying to keep
them from becoming the "cleansing flame" from burning out all of the foods and nutrition of planets. This could also refer to the Ark.

I live in a prison of my own demise.
He lives within the Delta Halo, the Halos are a demise to the flood, in a way...
Gravemind himself in trapped inside the Halo, in someplace unspoken of.

I am lost in time...
...to them time is of no purpose, thus to them time has no end... he is lost in time becaus he does not pay to it as a purpose.

well that ends my theory of the gravemind message plz feel free to comment.

Ya gotta want it!

good theory. His "crimes against God and Men" Could be either betrayal or a crime he has not yet commited.....the crime if leading the flood to earth.

In ages past the hand of time
Has hindered our migration,
But it cannot slow the will of faith
In times of confrontation.
Let all those worthy walk the path
Where we shall all soon meet.
For what once was lost, now is found
And our journey is complete.

Like the idea man. Sounds good to me. Good luck trying to convince the masses...

The flood are all one being that is why they dont die... and they probably took the crimes from god from the religous believes of the covanant. because they know everything that thier hosts know.

That is the only thing that I am a bit iffy on as well on the theory but thats because I still believe that the humans are the forerunners. Gravemind seems to have a collective memmory of all of the flood which implies that he is either:

1) Made up of a lot of flood that have come together to form "one being" (more like a colony and a single organisim)
or

2) The sorce of the flood. That would mean that each of the halos would have their own "gravemind" which could mean that these "graveminds" are the weapon and the super weapon on halo is not a weapon but a fail-safe. The flood would be like a type of biological warfare.

Good theory. Whenever I see Gravemind, and think about what he says, and how it affects the story, I always think of Neon Genesis Evangelion because to me, the Flood of Halo are like the Angels in Evangelion, thus a form of punishment to all life for their crimes. The UNSC and the Covenant represent NERV and the other corps. that battle the Angels, while the Chief and the Arbiter represent the EVA pilots. Gravemind being Adam.

About the gravemind being a forerunner. Well, if he is, then he must've ate his weaties because he's a pretty big peice of flood right? I'm just saying I don't think the forerunners were that big. I think its more possible for the gravemind to be an evolution of the flood.

I'll have you know
that I've become
Indestructible!

You forgot the third spot, when you fight Tartarus.
(somewhat unknown facts)Tartaros, in 2 Peter 2:4, is a prison for the fallen angels who have sinned [before the flood?].
Tartarus, in greek mythology, prison for the titans.

Doesn't this belong in New Mombasa?

hmmm, he's got a point

unless the reclaimers were a de-evolutionized result of 100,000 years of waiting.

halopedia is DOWN, NOOOO

this whole reversed message thing: i noticed ppl say you can hear him say a reversed message in the trailor. is it a coincidence all these reversed messages are hitting the scene? are there more, like in the cinematic between MC, arbi, and GM?
how clear can you hear this? im pretty interested, but id like to maybe hear it myself for clarity, and what not. other than than, this is one heck of a find!!!

Wow, I never heard or saw this Gravemind message, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. You have a good theory, I never really believed the possibility of Gravemind being a Forerunner, but now I may look into it a little more.

Maybe Gravemind wasn't punished by the Flood, but rather punished by the Forerunners. His punishment was Flood infection?

I'm not sure about when he says I wander the earth. Since it's audio, we don't know if it is earth or Earth. Possibly man was punished and sent away from Forerunner tech as their punishment. Forced to start over, and struggle to survive.

Maybe he feels lost in time because he lives from the distant past, with technology that seems to be from the distant future. Maybe this is a hint at some kind of time travel or time change?

Just a few of my ideas, I don't really stand behind any of them strongly, just speculation.

Not everyone knows the deep physcoligical meaning behind the storys of Evangelion, and most havent read it or seen the movies.

Yes but keep in mind that shinji becomes god, does that mean MC will become the ultimate being? He will save the earth and using the Arc mold it or rebuild it as he sees fit?

Or maybe in the words ' destruction breeds creation ' the halos are actually a way to rebuild the world and cleanse it of its sins, yes it will be the end of the world, but it will be the begining of a new uprising for the universe, where everything will be reborn.

guys, humans must be the forerunners because they are on earth and the ark is on earth

man has no history of its past because they were forced to activate halo.
the few that survived must have been on the ark (earth), thus "starting over "

I hate when people assume things like this. Don't be so ignorant, we don't know what the Ark is, what it does other than activate the Halo's remotley, or where it is.

It seems that the Ark is in fact on Earth, and in the trailer, but we arn't for sure. Don't just assume Humans = Forerunners. In my opinion that is a huge leap, and may keep one from looking at other aspects of Halo that may point to something different.
