Subject: Jazz up The Gallery?

Welcome to the town of "Diligence." I'm Mayor Due.

Well, I started thinking about The Gallery and here's the thing....

Much like a real life Art Gallery, your going to admire certain things, but your response is based on how you interpret the piece in question. It's going to differ from viewer to viewer, and opinions will be formed.

Seems like a ripe breeding ground for discussion, does it not? Yet I find myself and others responding with "cool stuff" and "great work" a fair amount.

If you don't have a lot of technological knowledge, you can't really discuss the finer points of animation, or whatever the B.Net user created.

Long story short, I think the Gallery is an underated forum that needs some attention. You can hear the crickets if you try hard enough.

Is there some way of bringing this forum more into focus?

With the other thread about "better" members, are these not the types of members your looking for?

Is there some way of having the original poster include more info [mandatory style], to open up discussion?

Example: What inspired you? What is your background? Is this a hobby or career?

Just wondering.... I guess I feel a little awkward asking these things, but feel they'd help with whatever the user posted.

It's art after all, and this is an artistic company. Perhaps a more visible showcase, placed somewhere on these very pages, that could also link back to that specific forum.

Thoughts?
Gallery love?

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

Maybe you could have a Community Highlight type deal, where a trusted member of the community interviews different B.net-artists on a semi-regular basis. It would be a similar format to DeeJ's Breaking In, which has plenty of discussion value.

Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

It's certainly a point I've thought about for a while and I'm sure there are indeed several ways we could boost activity to some degree.

Ultimately of course, it depends on people actually producing and sharing their content but I like your idea about encouraging people to write more of an in-depth description about the piece, the process they went through, inspirations etc. However, I also think we should retain the focus on the actual art (whatever form that takes) rather than having too much tangential discussion about the artist. I agree that that information would be very interesting but I'm a little wary about the discussion getting too off the rails and problems with bumping. In that case, I'd definitely go along with what ToastyWaffles suggested.

Other suggestions that have been floating around are things like small contests and maybe a return of the caption contest (although that's not particularly art related, it might get more people visiting).

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

If we could post images directly I might knock off some of the rust and whip out the Gimp again.

This thread made me realize that I haven't been to the gallery in years.

Кланяються мені!

I have never gone into The Gallery and said (in classy voice) "hmmmm this piece is quite intricate. The way he executes the weapon without the use of its ocular device is just so Je ne sais quoi."

I post some writing stuff in the gallery every now and then. It would be nice for the forum to get more attention but then again I think the classifieds needs more attention than the gallery.

1.) "Crack In Time" - Louder Production Music
2.) "Agressive Sucks" - Moss Landing
3.) Custom Version of "Meet Oscar" - Louder Productions Music
4.) "Behind You Rise" - Distortion Music
5.) "Aurora" - Mark Petrie
6.) "Surge Down - Audio Machine

I feel that the Gallery deserves more attention than it has now.

Maybe with the website update...

My DeviantArt Gallery - For my Photoshop stuff, go have a look!

I also feel like it needs new life breathed into it. But honestly, I have no idea how activity could be generated. Art subforums tend not to be active on any site I've been on, apart from those forums are purely about artwork/literature.

An animation forum I use has a nice courtesy 'rule' in place. Where if you reviewed someone's work and asked for 'courtesy', that user would be inclined to review your work.
It wasn't a proper enforced rule, but it was just seen as rude not to return the favor. If someone habitually ignored the 'rule', their work wouldn't get as many comments.

It worked very effectively, it still does even when that forum expanded.

I'm not sure about implementing it here, but it's an idea.

These are great questions, but will any of them increase visibility or traffic in and out of The Gallery? Priority should be seeing and sharing that community content beyond the small niche of a forum board, IMO.

Why not have webpages designed and dedicated (ex.) to sending in, viewing and commenting on approved fan art? A return of the tried and true Bungie Favorites with a starside polish would be sweet.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

That would be cool, to have smooth jazz go along with good pieces of art.
In reality I don't know.
