Wait people are saying the answer might be 'See you Starside?' Because if it is I just want to point this out again for the lulz:

The answer is... 2013 when they will see us starside. This is my guess.

It'd be cool if I guessed right twice in a row anyway.
:P
If I'm even close, this is pretty darned funny.

May I ask if the operation is over the X or Y axis?

Clever, but the answer is Per Audacia ad Astra. So, if the answer was in English you'd be correct. Just keep guessing those words, and eventually you will win on post 2 of the next mailsack.

They meant it to mean "See You Starside". Or "Boldly to the Stars". Or whatever. There've been at least 20 translations of that since it was first shown.
What were they?
"Videre vos astrum latus"

Is a literal translation of see you star side.
I don't remember, I just remember talk about how it didn't mean what Bungie thought it meant and also people clumsily trying to translate it since then. Sorry for my possible inaccuracy.

The whole thing does seem rather inconsistent doesn't it? We think "To the stars and beyond", DeeJ says "See you starside", Google Translate says "By daring to the stars..."

I think it just means "In SPAAAAAAAAAAACE."

This puzzle is really tricky. You really don't know what to focus on and what not to focus on. The numbers, letters, and pictures have relevance to the proof that it is "Per Audacia Ad Astra," but knowing how it all connects is just headache-inducing.

Just assume you do not know the answer. (Or don't try to make the problem fit the answer) It won't make it any easier necessarily but that will be one less thing to think about. And you will just know you've solve it when something obvious points to "Per Audacia Ad Astra"

It seemed pretty obvious. I connected the points, and arrived at that answer.

What are your thoughts on what we should do?

If anyone is deserving of winning, it's you. However, maybe it's not exactly what MisssingLink is looking for. Maybe there is no answer, only the knowing... Nah, I'm kidding, you probably solved it and he is just busy.

Except you had lots of letters left over. My stumble upon the answer earlier involved a similar mistake that I tried to make fit. The solutions from previous weeks were very concise provided you knew the method. Your solution still ignores the left over letters. There is also a step I personally know you are missing at least based on your discussion. I will suggest that you go back to analyze the way you are handling the numbers for now.

The trickiest part is that the letters I have leftover are not very prone to being converted into latin words. I know that connecting the dots is what I have to do, I'm just carefully examining exactly how I did it.

  • 09.15.2012 6:02 PM PDT

It also doesn't help that sometimes the lines ambiguously cross certain elements.

You mean barely touching letters that could or could not be a part of the solution?

See, that's the problem. I think since the answer has been found to be Per Audacia Ad Astra, there will be 0 left over letters not some extra latin word/english word. He incorrectly labeled my answer as correct as simply Per Audacia Ad Astra with no additions.

Right, so I'm trying to figure out how to manipulate the letters and numbers to get what I need while staying within the rules of the game. I'll redo the picture once more, and see what comes of it.

Yes, however, I have seen that a valid progression is likely to be less error prone. I think when one of us still attempting this considers the correct final step it won't be questionable. It will also help that we know the answer... last week I had bit.ly/rdyLk because my program cut off the last bit of the P. But wasn't able to confer with David before someone else found the answer. But the fact that the link came out clearly was proof to me that I had at least done that step right.

  • 09.15.2012 6:10 PM PDT

No, I can save you the time of re-drawing those lines. I do not believe that is the correct answer. Unless you've managed to skip a step. (If a split victory could be accepted by David/Bungie I would gladly bring you up to speed to my current progress. But having been awake nearly a day trying to solve this puzzle I would like to keep my current progress to myself. But I will try to save you the trouble of redoing incorrect implementations).

Hold on to your treasure for now, redoing it is seeming to yield better results.

Slow and steady.

Best of luck, as much as I would like to win knowing that it's over would help me move on and get other work I need to complete done. :) Also, for all you know I am just trying to impede your progress so a rework is likely the wise choice.

I get what you mean. This entire day has been taxing, especially since I had a long day yesterday spending it with my friend at a birthday party.

  • 09.15.2012 6:37 PM PDT

Yes it has been, I was out looking at houses all day with my wife and trying very hard to keep up with the hints and stay one step ahead, which is very hard when you're trying to check the forums PMs on your phone and trace stuff with paper and ruler while convincing your wife that you're paying attention while house shopping....
