In Halo 1, cortana says that the halo rings whipe out
all life in the galaxy that has

" sufficient biomass to support the flood. "

perhaps bungie has decided they wouldn't infect the
grunts till Halo 3 but, I think that it means something else.

I've never seen a grunt being infected by the flood
could this mean that their body size is small
enough to avoid being taken over by the flood ?

perhaps that the rings do not wipe out species
that are small enough not to be infected by the
flood, such as grunts, children,
and ( LOL ) midgets. This could explain how / if
humanity survived the rings 1st detonation.

What do you guys think of this ?

The grunts flood are the big exploding ones.

The last man on Earth sat in a room, there came a knock at the door.

The carrier forms (the ones that expode) are grunts. Just look at the legs and the hip-joint and compare it to a grunt's.

Grunts and Jackals (and Combat forms, once they are too weak to fight) turn into Carrier forms. Everything that can't think a thought on it's own, and/or is too small to support an infection form making a home in it's chest cavity isn't killed by the Halos.

How do they work? Who the hell knows. I have a guess though.

The Halos send out a shockwave-esque force through the Galaxy which will scramble the central nervous system of the potential Hosts (and current Flood forms) enough to kill them, and render them impossible for the infection forms to "eat".

Saying that humans survived because they were young at the time the rings went off doesn't make sense, since we were still sentient beings.

The Ark(s) most likely produce a barrier around the structure (or maybe the walls are made of something special?) so that anyone inside the structure (not just on Earth, the Prophet/Elite's world etc.) will be safe.

so maybe small, micro organisims could survive....

AND when the Halos where first activated, they killed the Forerunners and whatever else was around, and the micro-organisims remianiing WOULD EVOLVE INTO COVIES AND HUMANS!

Geniues!

While your support doesn't pass muster, I agree with your basic premise. If the rings destroyed all life, period, we really wouldn't have to worry about what happens in H3.

No,, we're the Forerunners ;)

343 GS:

"Human History, is it? Fascinating! A record of all of our lost time"

Remember, 343 GS is made by the Forerunners, so by "our" he is referring to us..he found the human hustory records on the PoA, so naturally we can assume that we are the Forerunners.

Well they obviously don't kill everything, otherwise cortana wouldn't say that, but the only things that would survive would be insects and other small animals I bet.
