More serious Marines will make for a darker more serious game which is what Bungie is aiming for in Halo 3. I don't want to be in a life or death situation in Halo 3 and have Marines cracking jokes while im fighting the enemy.

after reading this whole thread i can tell none of you have ever been any where near any "real combat".....i mean d-day....korea....vietnam... or middle east for that matter....nore have i....but several members of my family were in normandy, or pilots in nam. ive talked to them about it.....poeple who have exp. true war dont like to talk to much about it, but from what i know, there is nothing at all humorus about it......nobody gets clever or funny when people are dieing left and right......that -blam!- is for the movies an video games....if you dont beleive that?........go find some one who has been in that type of combat, and ask..."hey when your buddys were all getting shot to death and blown up by mortars, did anyone have any funny remarks about it?"....let me know how it turns out...

that said i like it the way it is....its a game and i guess the humor kina keeps it in perspective for me...

thats kinda what i mean here ^^^

I don't want my marines say, 'move up!' and stuff.

Marines don't give me orders.

why on earth would they talk to you? they would talk to there sqaud.

Marines and Spartans are both UNSC. They work together, and if Marines would talk to each other, I'm sure they would talk to MC. You become part of their squad.

I doubt very much that the americans entering D-DAY told jokes when people had their organs blowing up thanks to shockwaves from grenades etc.
Some soldiers was eveen screaming for their mom,i mean people who talk about making jokes, perhaps when the bullets are coming or when you are clearly winning, but when you see your soldiers get hit,you must be a retard if you tell jokes.

Saving Private Ryan rawked ;)

I'd like to see the ODSTs kick more arse. In the books they are pretty hard and borderline mentally unstable. I would like to see that reflected in the game either that they are just stronger than normal marines, that they can dual-wield, or that they can melee.

But we didnt see enough of the ODSTs in Halo2 and what little we did see they were just normal marines with fullface helmets.

I know exactly what everyone is talking about. Why did they make jokes? The Marines in Halo have been to war for the better part of their lives, most have probably been fighting Covenant since they were 18. If you see Marines die day in and day out, and then you are fighting hand and hand with a Spartan, you will probably be happy. They have heard about Master Chief and his acomplishments, they feel a level of comfort with him. They know the numerous times he has saved soldiers, and they feel that they will win the battle at hand when he is there.

Actually, most Marines (and most people) are uneasy around Spartans, because they are so intimidateing, and actually look more Alien/Machine than human to them. ODSTs feel even uneisier than normal marines areound Spartans.
Sure, they would feel more comfortable fighting with someone strong by their sides..but if (like you said) they have been in the UNSC since they were 18, and are around 24...they would've made strong bonds with their squad mates, and would absolutely NOT make a joke when that person dies! Did Forest Gump laugh when Bubba died? No! lol.
They are highly trained, if you read the books you would know that they usually know what to do in foreign areas without being told. They have been through it before. It's a game of survival, they don't need to yell commands, especially with a COM system.
Actually, if you read the books, you'd know all the yelling going on. Especially on Halo. The Comms are usually reserved for Squad leaders and Platoon leaders to ask for weapons, or call in for an Artillery Strike. Even then, they don't do it often or the comm would be flooded (Like then they first encountered the Flood on Halo) so they would rather yell their orders to their squadmates (friends who are near them.
Maybe that will help you understand why Marines joke around. If you need anything else, alot of men and women in service visit these forums, and they can tell you.
Would you laugh if some Alien killed your friend? No. People form bonds with others, and become close..if someone important to you dies - you will not (and should not) joke about it.
Why are they Hispanic? We reconize Hispanics. Many accents are hard to duplicate and even harder to understand in such a fast paced game as Halo. I'm sure there's more ethnicities fighting, but it could be very possible that while playing the game, we just missed them, or took them for something else.
I think it's extremely annoying that everyone is Hispanic in Halo 2. They're all hard to understand too..

Did you notice how Corporal Perez says "Eh Company" rather than "A Company"? "CP's thees way"

Bring back those Aussies.

Why? Do you not like humor? Laughing makes you sore or something? Do you not get jokes easily? I don't understand why you would take that away?

I don't mind the jokes I just don't think there funny. Maybe if they had a better comedian then it would be alright, or many differant types of voice actors for every Marine.

Perhaps the graphic is fine for you also in Halo2.
If you want better pre-order Crysis instead.

I don't even understand what that means. Yes, the graphis in Halo 2 were fine for me. Since I know the capibilities of the Xbox, I belive they were pushed to the limit. Now that the 360 is out I would like to see improved graphisc, obviously.

If I want better pre-order Crysis instead. How about i pre-order Halo 3?

Pushed to the limit? Go check out BLACK.

At no point in the game did I hear a Marine joking about death. They never laughed when someone died, and they never laughed about someone dieing. You guys automatically think that since they made a joke its about death or when someone died. If I'm telling a joke, and my friend dies while I tell it, does that mean I made a joke about him dieing? No.

In the books, I didn't notice the yelling, when was it? The only time I remember yelling on Alpha Halo was when there was a Covenant air strike, and they wouldn't have been yelling commands, they all knew what to do, that's how they held off the Covenant.

The tactics are thought up ahead of time. There is little need for verbal commands in the field, every knows what to do and when to do it. Commands would only be necesarry if something dramtically changes.

If you can, look back at the extras in the Multiplayer Map Pack. There is a video that shows how relieved the Helljumpers are that a Spartan is coming to them.

The Occasional "Area Secure" or "Bring us that Hog!" or "Supression fire!" while in a firefight would definately make the game more immersive. Having some Mexican guy make jokes while and after half of his squadmates..friends...have just been killed by 8ft tall Aliens is just plain stupid.

Cut back on the jokes, and cut back on the same voices used over and over for the Marines. Cut back on the same Marine models. Cut back on the same Mexican guy. Cut back on the same Nerdy white guy. Cut back on Michelle Rodriguez.

We need more baass marines (like the ones in Halo CE) and more Aussies, blacks, hispanics (with different, less fake accents), British..and why is the white Marine always nerdy? That is stupid.
