I know exactly what everyone is talking about. Why did they make jokes? The Marines in Halo have been to war for the better part of their lives, most have probably been fighting Covenant since they were 18. If you see Marines die day in and day out, and then you are fighting hand and hand with a Spartan, you will probably be happy. They have heard about Master Chief and his acomplishments, they feel a level of comfort with him. They know the numerous times he has saved soldiers, and they feel that they will win the battle at hand when he is there.
Actually, most Marines (and most people) are uneasy around Spartans, because they are so intimidateing, and actually look more Alien/Machine than human to them. ODSTs feel even uneisier than normal marines areound Spartans.
Sure, they would feel more comfortable fighting with someone strong by their sides..but if (like you said) they have been in the UNSC since they were 18, and are around 24...they would've made strong bonds with their squad mates, and would absolutely NOT make a joke when that person dies! Did Forest Gump laugh when Bubba died? No! lol.
They are highly trained, if you read the books you would know that they usually know what to do in foreign areas without being told. They have been through it before. It's a game of survival, they don't need to yell commands, especially with a COM system.
Actually, if you read the books, you'd know all the yelling going on. Especially on Halo. The Comms are usually reserved for Squad leaders and Platoon leaders to ask for weapons, or call in for an Artillery Strike. Even then, they don't do it often or the comm would be flooded (Like then they first encountered the Flood on Halo) so they would rather yell their orders to their squadmates (friends who are near them.
Maybe that will help you understand why Marines joke around. If you need anything else, alot of men and women in service visit these forums, and they can tell you.
Would you laugh if some Alien killed your friend? No. People form bonds with others, and become close..if someone important to you dies - you will not (and should not) joke about it.
Why are they Hispanic? We reconize Hispanics. Many accents are hard to duplicate and even harder to understand in such a fast paced game as Halo. I'm sure there's more ethnicities fighting, but it could be very possible that while playing the game, we just missed them, or took them for something else.
I think it's extremely annoying that everyone is Hispanic in Halo 2. They're all hard to understand too..
Did you notice how Corporal Perez says "Eh Company" rather than "A Company"? "CP's thees way"
Bring back those Aussies.
At no point in the game did I hear a Marine joking about death. They never laughed when someone died, and they never laughed about someone dieing. You guys automatically think that since they made a joke its about death or when someone died. If I'm telling a joke, and my friend dies while I tell it, does that mean I made a joke about him dieing? No.
In the books, I didn't notice the yelling, when was it? The only time I remember yelling on Alpha Halo was when there was a Covenant air strike, and they wouldn't have been yelling commands, they all knew what to do, that's how they held off the Covenant.
The tactics are thought up ahead of time. There is little need for verbal commands in the field, every knows what to do and when to do it. Commands would only be necesarry if something dramtically changes.
If you can, look back at the extras in the Multiplayer Map Pack. There is a video that shows how relieved the Helljumpers are that a Spartan is coming to them.
