I don't know why we would have something like this for individual users to turn on and off, since topics are bumped so that threads people want to discuss (even stupid ones) stay at the top of the page. It's like natural selection for topics!
This would be a good feature to have forum wide on certain forums that are more based on when something was posted than replies, like the classifieds or the news.It shouldn't really be a feature for the OPs to turn on or off in their threads, but for individual users when they post.
Why would OPs or individual poster be given that power? No serious OP would want their post to fall off the first page faster, and there is no point in not having a post bump a thread in a normal discussion based forum. Even if it is a silly topic, the fact that you had something to add to the discussion means that there (should be) discussion value, or at least makes it more likely that other people would want to discuss the same thing.
This should be something that is employed in forums like the classifieds that are not based on discussion, so no threads should be bumped.
