Hell yes, they need more "bosses" like the timer! The timer is an ultimate boss that fits into any game, any genre. I'd love to do that now more then ever with destructible vehicles. You'd have to make some crazy split second decisions. Swap out your busted up ghost for the warthog? You may be able to go faster on the ghost but one ofr two more hits and you'll be walking. Maybe the Warthog which is fresh and undamaged would last longer and thus get you further faster?
It's not so much "Bosses" but climaxes that make the day. Knowing the difference makes for great game development.
I'd also like to see more big battles. (admittedly, in Halo 1 the big Two Betrayals fight only worked since the Covenant had no medium to long range weapons. Try that in Halo2 and you'll be reamed by snipers and carbines) They're always climactic.
I should add, in one test level for Halo 2 during development there was a human starship/bunker that came from out of the sky landing next to a fortified Covenant Pyramid literally crawling with wrigglies. Immediately the bunker opened up and scorpions, warthogs and ATV's drove out, marines rushed onto the ramparts. The ATV's carried the snipers up into the hills to rain death from above.
Now, that sounds Climactic.
