But the boss battles in halo 2 sucked. I don't understand why we had to board a stationary scarab. [quote]

Stationary? I usually take it down before it even stops.

I agree. Boss battles suck.

Halo's strength is the excellence of its second-to-second combat experience. Large scale battles leverage Halo's strengths. This is one area where in my opinion Halo's SP campaign is far superior to Halo 2's SP campaign.

Boss battles are contrived gameplay devices that far too many games employ to add difficulty. In my opinion, they merely add unnecessary frustration.

Halo doesn't need these cliche'd gameplay devices. I hope their inclusion in Halo 2 was merely a stop gap measure due to time constraints, and they will be completely absent from Halo 3.

The bosses aspect of H2 might be the only thing that I didn't like about the game. I absolutely loved the ending of Halo CE.

Bosses are to Halo as common sense is to Michael Jackson.

Both would be nice, boss battles were well done, and large battles would be epic. But boss battles only if there good.

Hell yes, they need more "bosses" like the timer! The timer is an ultimate boss that fits into any game, any genre. I'd love to do that now more then ever with destructible vehicles. You'd have to make some crazy split second decisions. Swap out your busted up ghost for the warthog? You may be able to go faster on the ghost but one ofr two more hits and you'll be walking. Maybe the Warthog which is fresh and undamaged would last longer and thus get you further faster?

It's not so much "Bosses" but climaxes that make the day. Knowing the difference makes for great game development.

I'd also like to see more big battles. (admittedly, in Halo 1 the big Two Betrayals fight only worked since the Covenant had no medium to long range weapons. Try that in Halo2 and you'll be reamed by snipers and carbines) They're always climactic.

I should add, in one test level for Halo 2 during development there was a human starship/bunker that came from out of the sky landing next to a fortified Covenant Pyramid literally crawling with wrigglies. Immediately the bunker opened up and scorpions, warthogs and ATV's drove out, marines rushed onto the ramparts. The ATV's carried the snipers up into the hills to rain death from above.

Now, that sounds Climactic.

i think that Major figures in the Halo 3 plot should be as easy to kill as any other member of its "group" so if theres a Brute boss, then it should be just like all the other Brutes. I hate when you can only hurt something at a certain time.

I agree with most of you here, Halo should not be about large bosses. It should be about epic battles, which might include some hard enemies to fight, but they should not be the only person you are fighting, nor should you be the only one fighting them. I like having troops/coveys on my side, I took out the harder enemies while my Ai mates took out the easy ones. Id like to see battles like these but on a huge battlefield. Bosses make the story, gameplay, and replay value cheap.
