Ok so here the thing, the forerunners built the halo rings to eliminate the flood as a last resort in case the flood could not be contained....right? Think about this, lets assume that the forerunners is the first race that discovered the flood. Once they learned about this newly discovered parasitic organism and how it reproduces, how it aquires itz hosts and their knowledge, they built theez fortress halo worlds to further study this parasitic organism we all know as the flood. The idea of the halos being a weapon wuz imbeded in theez emense halo "labratories" as a last resort to eliminate the flood (duh right) in case of an emergency outbreak. Well what if itz possible if the forerunners colonized different parts of the galaxy....(like humans do and the way we form governments) and establish research facilties to evaluate and experiment with this new parasitic organisms. So they developed different Halo rings across the galaxy, complete with itz own self-destruction procedure in case of outbreak. And thatz exactly what happened. So as 343Guilty Spark said, his creators(the forerunners) activated all the rings in a desperate attempt to starve the flood. Now refering to some other theories that I have read on theez forums about the earth being the ark may or may not be true, but I do know one thing for sure. There must be something on earth (obviously) and on the Halo rings that protect sentient life. Becuz then there would be no life (plants, trees, etc) on the halo rings and life on Earth. Becuz when the first Halo is discovered by both Covenant and the humans in the first game there wuz life and water and trees. Activation of the rings 100,000 yrs ago would prevent this unless something in the Halo rings and/or Earth that protects sentient life. 2401 Penitent Tangent stated that some of their creators survived to reproduce.
But think about this, after the first activation everything wuz destroyed except maybe some forerunners becuz life on earth takes hundreds of millions of years for sentient life to evolve, having said that then the some of the forerunners would have had to survived cuz there is no way we could have evolved so quickly to this technological state over 100,000yrs. Unless theese rings activated 100,000yrs ago and People on earth did not know what wuz going on, (assuming that the earth has a protection shield or whatever from the rings) and we just kept on living to our present technological state. When the humans and covenant discovered Halo they also discovered the flood, so someting in the Halo rings would have had to protect the flood from being killed from the first activation by the forerunners or else there would have been no reason for the flood to be introduced in the first game also explaining the survival of Gravemind. Now the Covenat I dont know exactly how some part of their race survived from the first activation but they might Have come into the picture before or after the activation...dont know. Leave ur comments good or bad....if there bad cool...just dont be a stupid @ss about it.....itz only a forum...not the -blam!-ing bible ok.Peace

excellent post. however, this will clear up a question you had about the other life in the universe. remember GS says Halo kills the sentient life right? well somehow it ONLY kills the sentients. trees, water, the planets themselves. i hope we at least see how these dang things work.........

so yeah the halos will vaporize the sentients while keeping the physical masses in tact. i really believe that the ark preserves the life inside. thus those who emerge become the reclaimers and..........oh you know the rest

good point. i wondered how any of the flood managed to survive and reproduce as well. i had just assumed that all life on earth had been eradicated and then reevolved, but your right, there wasn't enough time. i hadnt though about that. your guess is as good as any.

one: doesn't sentient = able to think for itself, therefore plants are not sentient and would have survived. animals and beings would have been vaporized...
two: i think forerunner created the flood. BWAHAHAHA!!!!!!

ok thatz a good point Aimless Chaos but u also have to consider that if animal, beings, covenant, forerunners, are considered sentient life then how could be all evolve so quickly to every races present technological state? It could not have happened in 100,000yrs from the first activation of the halos by the forerunners.

yeah but consider this if all sentient life wuz eliminated then we would have had to have started all over again like in the Precambrian and Mesozoic periods of early stages of life froms...taking millions of years to re-evolve...unless like I said before...some forerunners indeed survive or The ark on earth protects it from the Halo rings

hmm ok i see where youre going... what if some forerunners exist in the ark in the earth and helped repopulate it? thats why mc is called reclaimer, because of forerunner decendant?

yes excatly....cuz 343 Guilty Spark wuz even kinda surprised to so MC...even in Halo 1 he told MC that he didnt bring sufficient weaponary against the Flood (as if MC wuz suppose to know) But check this out lets say that thing in the trailer is the ark but it did not protect earth so if we can relate that the ark protected some forerunner survivors, then all life on earth could have actually been wiped out but through diven intervention with humans they could have easily repopulated the earth and slowly( but more rapidly than normal) evlove into our present state today.(well in the technological state in the game)....but not fully forefunner race but the result of human evolution with the "devine" intervention with the forerunners...but then that would prove my theory of the protection on earth to be inaccurate but in can go either way....dont u think?

I think that this paragraph that I copied and pasted from that Halopedia website or whatever explains it better than I do here u go:
Further evidence to suggest that the Forerunner and human race are one and the same manifests itself in one of the final cutscenes of Halo: Combat Evolved. Guilty Spark, upon scanning the files of human history aboard the severely damaged Pillar of Autumn, remarks on, "Our lost history." This subtle distinction, coupled with the knowledge that guilty spark refers to Master Chief as the "Reclaimer" and acts as if they have met before, allows one to reasonably conclude that the human race is all that remains of the Forerunner. It's incredibly ironic, especially when one considers how the Covenant have essentially worshipped Forerunner technology and, at the same time, are driven by their dogmatic beliefs to eradicate the human race.

Maybe you should spell better. You spelled grammar wrong. You're also supposed to put a space between the A and L in a lot.
