The D-pad is not used in the halo games so why not put it this way.

Up on the D-pad is to charge or attack an enemy or enemies in the area.

Down on the D-pad is to retreat and following you

Left 0n the D-pad is to defend or wait here

Right On the D-Pad is to get in a tank you driving or to get ride. ( im still working on this)

Now this would be great as there marines would be more useful than following you around
But this wont remove the A.I. it is there so you can just take command when ever you want to.
Now think if you were the arbiter and you can command grunts and hunters into battle?

Only basic commands like "Stay here" and "Follow me" to keep the marines from charging into a suicidal battle.

I agree. Although I always make sure the Marines don't die.

as long as the options arnt to complex just enough to stop them going and getting them selves killed e.g hold position, follow me, cease fire and get in/out of a vehcile (depending on wether they are in a vehicle or not) sonmthing along those lines would make the AIs so much more usefull

no not thing too complex i mean simple things like dont go charging in and die after i freed you frrom Jail. Useful for stealth and you dont want those marines to bugg ya. Or to stage a two way attack they distract Covenant one way and you sneak around and outflank them.

If the AI was insane-smart to the max, Marines could fight well even if they are realistically killed or wounded in one shot or two.

It could make your allies more useful, but the Master Cheif, being of naval rank, really has no command over any Marine.

yeah but heck if their were in a heat of battle and the Master Chief has got an ideal wont the marines listen to him heck it could save their butts and heads form getting blown off.

this works with the arbiter heck why not command a team of elites or grunts or better yet HUNTERS maybe 4 hunters and wreak Chaos!

It would be nice at the last level in Halo3 the the Master chief has only one chance to stop truth before he completes his sermon and active the ark or the thing on earth.

Master Chief leads a herd (4) of hunters to bash and slam thier way into the ark or the huge thing.

Of course. MC is an inspiration so the Marines should follow whatever he says despite his naval rank.

What I had in mind was that the Command functions be exclusive to The Arbiter. I was thinking:

D-Pad Up-Offensive formations. Your allies will proceed to engage targets/search and destroy the enemy by any means necessary and secure the area. High priorities first. They will follow your lead, but will sometimes advance on their own if you dawdle too long. Also, they will proceed to man the vehicles and heavy guns.

D-Pad Left-Stealth-Allies will employ stealth(some using Camoflague) to infiltrate enemy territory. Allies will creep stealthy(crouching stance) and conceal themselves often as best they can(usually by knocking out lights and/or keeping to the shadows) and use silent kill methods i.e. bashing enemies in the back, using energy garrotes, silently igniting their energy sword on a unsuspecting target, silent kill, then switch off the sword. This command also signals an ally to find a sniper position(if one of your allies have a sniper rifle or Carbine). Stealth is the option if you want your allies to watch each others' back.

D-Pad Right-Anti-Armor formations. Much like Offensive and Stealth combined. Hunters will effectively find a spot where they can easily destroy enemy vehicles. Elites can hijack an enemy vehicle or use anti-armor weaponary they have or simply use a variety of methods to sabotage the vehicle in action. Or your allies can hide behind cover in 'grenadier mode'-most common for Grunts. Friendlies in vehicles will respond to enemy vehicles as top priority. Anyone with a sniper can snipe out turret gunners and light-armor vehicle pilots with precision accuracy. If none of these are available, then an air support will most likely come in if there are air support around.

D-Pad Down-Defensive formations. Allies will take defensive covering or retreat/fall back until the odds are in your favor. This command also commands your allies to stop/regroup if they proceed ahead of you.

Note: Depending on battle situations, sometimes an option(s) may not be available. The AI is self-dependent, yet follows the frame of your orders in a number of scenarios. They won't run blindly into a battalion of Brutes head-on and get themselves killed.

lol!!somwhere in the book MC had trouble keeping marines alive, thats y he does missions alone, because those marines will f everthing up..........but if you had other spartans to command ofcourse i would like them 2 fight by my side but not the normal human marines.

"Move here" or "Follow me." Two commands, just like in Half-Life 2.

...yeah, something like in Starwars:Battle Front would be good. like I was playing through yesterday, and one of the marines charged out to meet ten elites, 2 hunters, and a crap load of brutes. He died. there should he some option (like using the arow buttons, which arn't used) to at least tell them to "Stay here", so you can scout ahead, or "follow" or "spread out" or "cover fire" or something.

he was goin 2 die anyway,he decided 2 die early.wouldnt you?

I like this idea alot. As long as they kept it simple I think it would work. In Halo 1 and 2 I always wished that I had more control over the Marines, and giving them simple commands like 'Attack, Defend, Stay Here, Get out' would be pretty cool.

Only the dead live to see the end of war

You may talk of gin and beer when your riding safe out here, and lick the penny aldorshotin. But when it comes to slaughter you may do your work on water, and lick the bloomin boots of him thats got it.

My first clan match http://www.bungie.net/Stats/GameStats.aspx?gameID=273740390&a mp;player=bluediataxin

Yes, that would be nice. But keep it quick and simple and not mandatory.

What about Mic technology that rainbow 6 3 used? Use the communicator to tell them what to do.

"Marine, get me a beer."
