Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Joseph Staten: We feel responsible for not only telling an isolated story but for building a universe that at some point, is gonna become more the fans than ours, it's gonna take a life of its own. ~ ViDoc

Judging by this quote, sooner or later Bungie will pass the torch to the fans, allowing them to continue telling the story of Destiny, but what about its past? Will there be Novels, Graphic Novels, Short Movies, etc, tied to the fiction, that broaden the lore/build the world, or will the entire story be isolated within the games? As a franchise, will Destiny follow the same style as Halo?

As of now there has only been a kind of a vague viral going on now and then on this site; a match lights up here and there, but is quickly extinguished by the imposing darkness, something I suspect will continue for a while. So we know that Viral storytelling is a part of Destiny; although more like a way of revealing bits and pieces of what it is about, maybe even just in a meta level(?).

What do you think? How would you structure Destiny as a franchise? What are your hopes?

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

I would love to see books based around the Destiny universe, as the Halo novels contributed immensely to the Halo universe.

Do not waste your tears, I was not born to watch the world grow dim. Life is not measured in years, but by the deeds of men.

We should know better, because we are better.

Completely off the wall here, but what of it is like EVE? Players have near complete control of the setting and shape the game universe. Crazy idea is that the story develops based on the player's action and depending on what the players do the story changes, not just for the player but for every player.

EVE is intense. Their universe is now also expanded to a first-person shooter (Dust 514) that will have affect the EVE MMORPG. I really hope Destiny will take some cues from EVE Online.

As long as the initial game or two have popularity then I'm sure universe expansion is inevitable.

In the Activision contract there are clauses for how popular the game is and how many game units get sold for continuation of the contract with Bungie.

I think that's an ample answer to your question. More games and other merchanise or spinoffs are always on the cards when one game turns into a franchise.

My speculation thread "Bungie's new game" goes on about the different types of interactions for console, PC, mobiles, tablets etc but it would easily extend to include books, comics, action figures etc.

Although I'd don't ever see an easy method for fan interaction of books, short stories, artbooks/comics and the like. The universe interaction and it becoming more the fans to me means universe building tools, an economy system and near infinite possibilities for online play.

Sure some players may just "build items for sale", some may "be for hire to take out other players or territories", some may be more strategy based but overall I think the layering of these systems is the grand scale Bungie are targeting.

I think Joe Staten means, we would be able to do more than just play the game, maybe create your own factions or clans and have laws with it and your own territory and stuff like that?

Who knows, but I'm dying to get more info.
